Screen Locking Up....multiple Distros

I have a new to me laptop.
On Windows 7 everything is working well. I tried Majaro Gnome, and it worked ok except I could not get the pacman to work, apps to update etc. I then tried Kodora and Suse and on both of those the screen locks up for no apparent reason with no errors. What will happen is the cursor still moves around the screen, it just does not appear to be able to interact with anything. No clicking works, and no keyboard functions work (cant tab, or anything).

Laptop is a Dell Latitude
i5 -2520M
4gb RAM
NVidia NVS 4200M

I dont know what other info would be helpful.
Thanks

Wireless Mouse And Wireless Keyboard Is Not Working In Linux Distro's

Wireless mouse and wireless keyboard is not working in Linux distro's.

Read the similar threads on this issue. Boot mode is set for UEFI and Legacy therefore not sure what to do to enable mouse and keyboard? The mouse and keyboard use the same 'receiver' and the receiver indicator is green when Linux distro is fully loaded. Have tried various distro's, Ubuntu, and Ubuntu based distro's using LIVE DVD method on all. Latest distro tried is Peach 14.04.1 TW.40 64 bit. Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3, CPU AMD FX6300 3.5 Ghz six core.

Thanks for any assistance.

Sudden Black Screen On Elementary

Hi everyone,

I tried to install Elementary Freya and everything was good, though suddenly while using my laptop I get a black screen. I cannot use the mouse nor the keyboard. When I press the power button, to put the computer in sleep mode, and the open it again, I can see the desktop but cannot do anything.
I tried to use Mint 17.1 and then reinstalled Elementary again but I keep getting the same problem.
I use Linux next to windows 8.1

Thanks in advance, I would appreciate any help

UEFI Problem, GRUB2 Problem, Blank Screen Problem, :(

Hi, So im quite new to linux and im not surprised as iv tried before to check it out and failed then (old computers problem) but i decided to have another go on a new comp recently.

UEFI mobo
Nvidia geforce 770 as output.

I need a duel boot of win7 & mint. Win7 is installed.

UEFI has caused me so many problems its just beyond me ! (i had never heard of it before i brought this comp)

booting Mint from a cd/dvd works fine.

booting from a USB fails with a blank or locked up screen at the first mint logo. (many tests with dif methods of creating live USB)

Installing mint with grub over the top of win boot loader fails , i get no options to choose between win & linux it boots straight to linux and then fails (same error as above)

I have a small SSD with win7 , there is not a lot of space on it so i want to install mint 17.1KDE on a different HDD.

After a month or so of reading testing reading testing etc i ended up getting mint installed on partitions i created on secondary HDD but i had to keep the windows boot loader in place and use easyBCD.

However now i get the choice of win7 or linux and windows still actually works (breakthrough ^^) BUT linux just crashes at boot (at the first logo) and then the monitor looses all signal?

I am soo frustrated. Mint will run of a CD but i can not get it to work in any other way , please help

Thx.

Aspect Ratio Problem Can't See Taskbar

I installed Linux Mint but I can't see the taskbar to open menus, firefox or anything. When I hover my mouse in the bottom right corner the date pops up, so I think everything is there but I just can't see or click on anything. The only icons on my desktop are the Home and computer icons and they are barely on the screen but still visible. I'm hoping there is a way to adjust the screen ratio to show the whole screen. Also on web pages the "close tab x" is off the screen and out of range for my mouse to click but I was able to drag the page down to get to it.
I was able to make the taskbar icons larger, now I can see the tops of the icons so I at least know they are there.

Touchpad Not Working

I am running linux mint from a live usb loaded with unetbootin for windows. It works with my wireless logitech USB mouse, but the touchpad itself is unresponsive. Keyboard including FN keys are indeed working. I am on an asus EEEPC netbook. I tried making sure the touchpad was turned on vai the function keys. I have also checked in system settings the touchpad is enabled. Any solutions anyone?

Can't Log In To Linux After Folder Permissions Change

Hi everyone...

I'm running a Debian Wheezy 7 installation. I recently changed the ownership of my "/tmp" folder and have not been able to log in since. Everytime I turn on the computer it boots normally up to the log in screen, however when I try to log in the screen turns off and on for about a second and returns me to the log in screen. I cannot log in. I have not made any other changes to the system other than the one I mentioned.

If anyone can help it'd be greatly appreciated! Please help.

Keyboard And Mouse Defect? Linux Mint 17

Hey-yo,
I have problems with my keyboard and mouse sometimes when I turn my laptop on. They're just not working. Somewhere I read that it has to do with a so-called "blind registration" and that I only have to tip in my password. But no matter how many times I do that it doesn't work. I'll always have to turn off my laptop and turn it on again, hoping that it works.
I only have Linux for two months and that's the only problem I got until now. Please help ^-^'

Install Problems

Hello,
Tried to check other questions first, but didnt find any that were the same so here goes.....
Have an older pc with MSI motherboard: ms-7039 V 1.3. Other id's are N1996 and K9N6PGM2-V man. date 6/11/2008. Has bios v 9.1 simbios v 2.5 This is a 32bit.
Have formatted satas (plural because tried different drives to be sure not bad) in ntfs, partitioned according to instructions.
Have created 2 bootable usb's both 32bit, of ubuntu and mint. These both are fine as checked them on other machines so thats not the problem.
Can load win7 just fine, when go through install of these distros all goes well until says to reboot. Once reboot, loads up and either get 1. a fuzzy screen just with color 2. the screen with only icons on top right (ubuntu) sometimes mouse works sometimes not or 3. all icons top right and on left, but either mouse not work, moves in jerks and in both of these cases cannot click on icons.
Any ideas? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
