Problem With CUPS Printing.

Hello,

I have cups 1.7 set up. And have a printer LaserJet P1606DN configured. But with one user, every morning the first printing gets errror "Unable to write print data: Broken pipe". After that printing works fine. Printer is set with maximum sleep time "after 1 hour".

Any ideas, what to check?

Fedora 19 + CUPS + Brother DCP-J925DW

Hello,

Using Fedora 19 (Gnome)

I am unable to print on my Printer : Brother DCP-J925DW

I have followed these intructions on installing the printer driver : http://welcome.solutions.brother.com...ion_prn1a.html

The drivers needed are installed :

[root@jonashp Jonas]# rpm -qa | grep -e cups -e lpr
bluez-cups-4.101-9.fc19.x86_64
cups-filesystem-1.6.4-2.fc19.noarch
cups-filters-1.0.40-4.fc19.x86_64
python-cups-1.9.63-4.fc19.x86_64
cups-libs-1.6.4-2.fc19.x86_64

cups-filters-libs-1.0.40-4.fc19.x86_64
dcpj925dwcupswrapper-3.0.0-1.i386

But when I try to print a pdf document or a test page via cups website (http://localhost:631/printers) nothing happens.

I tried with network :

Description: DCP-J925DW
Location:
Driver: Brother DCP-J925DW CUPS (color, 2-sided printing)
Connection: lpd://192.168.1.110/binary_p1
Defaults: job-sheets=none, none media=iso_a4_210x297mm sides=one-sided

Status according to CUPS : DCP-J925DW (Idle, Accepting Jobs, Not Shared)

I have tried with usb and let Fedora detect and auto-install the printer : printing does not work.

What else can I try ?

Trouble Printing Under Xubuntu

What I have here is a Dell Optiplex GX620 (stock) with a new install of Xubuntu as of May 18. It works fine except that I am having trouble printing.
The printer is an HP Deskjet 832c hooked to a Linksys BEFW11P1. The Linksys box is an old internet router/firewall/wi-fi/printserver. I am using it as a network printserver with all the other functions disabled. It's a strange setup for sure. But, over there I have another computer running Lucid Puppy 5.3.2 and it prints just fine.
This machine running Xubuntu only will print the simplest of documents. The printer setup will print a test page, Text files will print, AbiWord files will print, PDF files and HTML pages displayed in Firefox do not print.
I have been taking some stabs at trying to fix this problem by changing some settings. but no joy.
Has anyone seen an issue like this? Any pointers/ideas on where to actually look for the problem.
It seems to me that Xubuntu does not use CUPS to manage it's printers? True? Would installing CUPS be a good idea?
Thanks

Libreoffice Cannot Find Network Printer, Offers Only (non-existent) Generic Printer

Arch linux, lxdm/lxde, recent installation, feeling I must be doing something stupid, would be glad to be guided!

I have a Brother HL-2030 printer connected to a Raspberry Pi as a print server, CUPS setup, with sharing turned on. Other machines in the household, and indeed other OS's on the machine I'm writing on, print trouble-free to this printer.

On *this* desktop machine, (with libcups installed,) other programs print trouble-free. Firefox, Thunderbird, geany and evince all detect the presence of the network printer, and work as expected.

It's just Libreoffice that does not. This is true both of libreoffice-fresh and libreoffice-still, and it is true for all the components (write, draw, calc etc).

Libreoffice *does* find the network printer from other OS's that I play with; I have Puppy and Mint on the same machine, but those installs of Libreoffice are obviously different/earlier versions (nor do I feel like upgrading them in the circumstances!)

In this context, though, the Libreoffice "File>Printer settings..." menu offers me only a "Generic Printer" (whose properties and options I can edit). If I ask Libreoffice to print to this generic printer, it reports no failure, but that task just seems to disappear into thin air.

On the Pi server, /var/log/cups/ offers

Code:
# extract from /var/log/cups/access_log

I really think I must be doing something very stupid and newbie-ish!

Hello &I Have A Printer Problem

I have very recently installed Linux Mint 16 (Cinnamon) and after a hard slog managed to get wifi and my printer (Canon Pixma MG5550) installed and operating.
My problem is in Libre Office printing labels on an Avery J8162 sheet of 14 labels. I have raised a new document and had the address typed on all 14 labels (same name & address on all 14)but when printing to the actual label sheet the addresses are okay on the first line only and then progresses down the sheet printing outwith the label.
I have checked all settings and verified that they conform to what I need. Now dont know what to do and if anyone can help then I would appreciate your response.
Thank you

How To Install Printer On OpenOffice

Hi - I just installed KDE 3.2 and OpenOffice on my Debian PC. Both are great program but I can't print in OpenOffice. I configured my HP Laserjet printer in the Control Center & prints a test page with no problem. However, it's not in the list of printers in OpenOffice. There's two printers listed in the drop-down list - lp and Generic Printer - but not the LaserJet. How do I get my LaserJet to show up in the list of printers in OpenOffice? Thanks in advance for your help.

Cups Without A GUI

Is it possible to configure CUPS without a GUI?
If so would I have to do it remotely somehow?
If there isn't, what would you recommend with adding a printer without the web interface that CUPS has.

Tiny Font Printing A Libre Writer .odt Doc

Tiny font when printing Libre Writer doc.
Using Mint 17.1, HP Officejet Pro 8610
Print is so tiny it is illegible, even though font size selected is 12. Printing a text file, gedit, prints okay.
Also, if I export the .odt doc to .pdf, it prints okay.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I just dumped Win7 OS and am learning Linux.

Command Line IP Printing

Hi Forum,

I have a network printer (HP) running on 192.168.85.24 and I wish to install something that enables me to just shoot pdf och ps files directly to it from the command line, however, it has been hard finding something that describes how to make a bare bones setup like that, the most info I find talk about user interfaces, clicking menues opening web browsers etc, I want things incredibly simple, then they are more robust.

Do you have a tutorial on how to just get an HP-printer to accept ps och or pdf files from the command line?

I run Debian with LXDE and have contact with the printer. (I tested with ping.)

Another question I have is for this forum, do you have a search function? If I had had a search function I would have searched for an answer to the question before posting it.

Kind regards
Johnny
