For the life of me, I can't find where to turn on single-click in GNOME 3.16 / Fedora 22.
Can anyone help?
TIA
Hi,
This might be odd, but in GNOME Shell 3.10.4 in fedora 20, I used to throw the mouse to the top left of the screen and that would make me feel excited about having all the open windows jam packed and then again selecting one I wanted. It really gave me a thrill.
But, in GNOME Shell 3.14.4, fedora 21 (workstation), I have to "click" on the "activities" on the top-left :-((
Is there any way I can change GNOME Shell 3.14.4 in way to have that feature back?
Hello,
I installed Mint 17 xfce onto a friend's HP netbook a few months ago. Up until now all has been working pretty perfectly.
From this evening, she tells me that after she types in her password the following message appears:
no exec. line in this session file [her password appears here in plain text!] running the GNOME failsafe session instead
The only option at this point is seemingly to click ok. After that, this message appears:
Could not find the GNOME installation will try running the failsafe xterm session
Again the only option is to click ok, then this appears for a few seconds:
Cannot find xterm start a failsafe session
Then it goes to a black screen (though you can see the mouse cursor) on which it stays indefinitely.
She tells me that she wasn't trying to do anything other than web browsing and email checking before this started happening so there doesn't seem to be any logical reason behind it. Does anybody have any idea what is happening and how to fix it?
I install Fedora 19 KDE Desktop on my computer, I have been searching for other desktop enviroments so I install gnome but the problem is when I try to log with Gnome 3.8 the screen turns black like if was off I was trying to fix with xrandr because i think it was a resolution problem but when I use xrandr It send a message saying 'Can't open display.'

Hello I am a newbie to this forum and Linux. Thank you ahead of time for your advice, constructive criticism and sharing.
Fedora 15
I enter following command> yum install-gnome-tweak-tool
The result is >cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. please verify its path and try again.
I dont know how to get to the repo to fix it. In the files i need to remove an s from HTTPSS... We did it in class but i want to learn for myself.
Hi - I have the most aggravating problem. On my RHEL 5.2 w/s using gnome (or KDE), if you select "lock screen" from the pulldown and then try to unlock the screen with your password you logged in successfully with in the first place, it comes back shaking it's head INCORRECT PASSWORD. I did some digging and the /var/log/secure file is spitting out:
gnome-screensaver-dialog: pam_unix(gnome-screensaver:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=500 euid=500 tty=0.0 ruser= rhost= user=username
Then below that also:
gnome-screensaver-dialog: pam_unix(gnome-screensaver:auth): auth could not identify password for [username]
I find this is happening on a few of my other RHEL systems too: RHEL 5.5, 6.0, and 6.5.
Help!
Hello, as you see from the title I am having problems with GNOME. I wanted to install gnome so I have followed how to do this on official website, but only got the bright gray screen with text "Oh no something has gone wrong" and a button "Log out". Could somebody please help me?
I have downloaded an attachment from a website and an icon has now appeared on the bottom panel of my debian distro with gnome shell (classic).
This icon will not go away even with reboot.
If I right-click on the icon it offers me 'launch' and 'properties' option. But there is no 'delete' option.
If I click on the icon it will take me back to the same website and open the attachment again.
Now it's forever on the bottom panel of my desktop.
Clearly this is a bug.
Can someone please advise how I can get rid of this? Thank you in advance.
Greetings,
I have been tinkering around with a distribution called gNewSense, a distribution endorsed and sponsored by the Free Software Foundation. I'm currently running version 3.1
I had a question about it.
I was wondering what the default desktop environment is. It looks to me like either Gnome 2 or the MATE desktop environment. I'm not sure which one it is. Both desktop environments look very similar to me.
A few places on the internet seem to indicate that it might actually be Gnome 2, however, I was under the impression that development for that version of the Gnome desktop has long ago stopped, and, in essence, the MATE desktop has taken it's place and continues to be developed for.
Thank you
debian 3.2.0-4-amd64
GNOME Shell 3.4.2
put X-GNOME-Autostart-Delay=60 in the startup file but it stills runs at boot. the delay of 60 is not working. this delay worked on fedora, but not on debian. any help is appreciated
I have Storm Linux, which comes with the KDE desktop; however, there are Gnome applications in the package. How do I switch to the Gnome desktop?
