Installing Mint

I downloaded Mint and burnt it to a CD. The computer boots up fine with the CD, goes to the Mint home screen, but when I try to install it and partition the hard drive to run next to Windows Vista, the screen completely garbles (green background with short different colored horizontal lines all over it). Is this normal? Should I let it run for a while and it will clear up? How long can I expect the partitioning to take?

Trouble Installing Linux Mint To 500gb External Hard Drive Due To Normal.mod Error

i am very new to linux but i wanted to try it out, my main windows drive is tiny so i decided to format my usb hard drive and use that, first i tried to install ubuntu but i got a normal.mod not found error, so after some reserch and a grub reinstallation it booted once,

the next day however i got another error so i decided to switch to mint to see if it would work any better, but i'm still getting the normal.mod not found error.

i've tried a whole bunch of things like reinstalling mint and grub, boot repair, but nothing works, i'm kinda frustrated because i know it works because it booted up before but i just can't figure out how to fix it.

Acer EEEPC Install Mint 17.1

Hi Guys,

Does anybody know if it is possible to install Linux Mint 17.1 on a Acer EEEPC.

My old computer which I am using at the moment and running Linux Mint 17.1 displays the message 'Running in Software Mode without video hardware acceleration'

'There could be a problem with your drivers'.

My old computer is running quite slowly.

I have a option to buy a Acer EEEPC so was wondering if I shouldnt replace my old old computer with the Acer.

Any help appreciated

Install From Flash Drive

Hi all,

I must confess that I haven't posted for more than a year, although I have been reading the emails that your admin staff kindly sends me. I was just about to bother you with a question regarding installing and booting into Linux from a flash drive on laptop with no hard drive in it. However, I just discovered http://www.pendrivelinux.com/, so I'll post my questions there first, since they apparently specialize in this kind of installation. Of course, comments and suggestions here would also be welcome and appreciated.

Thank you,
Bob

Install Zorin 9.1 64 Bit To External Hard Drive Using Virtual Box In Win7

I've just started tinkering with Linux and have a question about installing it to my current machine.

I'm running Win 7 Pro and have installed Oracle VM Virtual Box on the C:\ drive which is a 256 GB SSD. I want to create a 15 GB virtual hard drive on a second internal hard drive that has more space on it, and install Zorin 9.1 to it. Currently my C: drive is about 60% full and I'd rather not fill it up past that.

So my question is: Can I run Zorin off of a hard drive other than the C: drive?

Thanks for your consideration.

How Do I Recover Data From Lost Partition

Booted my computer with 2 USB flash drives inserted. One of the drives turned out to be an MS-DOS boot drive. The PC booted in DOS and wiped out the partition table of the other flash drive with my data on it. This second (64Gb) drive had a single 64Gb type 83 (Linux) primary partition (ext4 file system).

Is there a way to recover the data that's on the second stick?

I've been told that all I have to do is repartition it exactly as it was and my data will be there. But I'd like to have advice from the pros here before I start messing with it.

For the time being, I dd-ed the entire stick, as is, onto a blank partition of my hard disk (dd if=/dev/sdb of=/dev/sda14). The process completed without errors but /dev/sda14 is unmountable for the moment.

Thanks for any help.
