Hello everyone,
I am not a real n00b at linux but this question is kinda newbisch: I disabled a password for my profile and now i am trying to use sudo but I'm asked to enter a password. I have tried any possible password but I can't unlock it. Please Help!
I own a brandless PC with an Intel Celeron 3.06Ghz processor.
An Intel motherboard
The OS on this PC is Elementary OS Luna
Again please help me.
Very Kind Regards,

Hey everybody!
I am (quite) new to the world of linux, but have been trying out a few of the most basic distros (ubuntu-based ones).
I am now using elementary os luna, and i have a problem with installing my nvidia drivers.
I have really been googling my ass off to find this on my own, but without any results that actually worked for me.
So, i have a HP Envy laptop, with a geforce gt 740m, and i have searched nvidias homepage to find out that the up-to-date driver for me would be the 346 driver. I tried it on Linux mint xfce, and i successfully installed it. I had to add the xorg ppa repository of course, and updated it as well, but when i do the same procedure here on my elementary os, i cant reach the login screen after my reboot.
When i use the lspci -vnn command in the terminal, i get this info on my graphics driver:
01:00.0 3D controller [0302]: NVIDIA Corporation GK208M [GeForce GT 740M] [10de:1292] (rev a1)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:1961]
Flags: fast devsel, IRQ 16
Memory at d2000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M]
Memory at a0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
Memory at b0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=32M]
I/O ports at 4000 [size=128]
Expansion ROM at b2000000 [disabled] [size=512K]
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel modules: nouveau, nvidiafb
I really hope someone knows how to fix my problem.
Thanks in advance!
/Andreas
Hi all,I'm new member of this forum.
I started using linux 1-2 month ago and I like it.
On elementary OS, youtube video has bad,low quality.
The same video on windows has good quality.
Also on Linux Mint it has also good quality.
I've main problem with elementary os.
I've Intel HD 3000 video card(VGA)
Hp 4330s laptop.
What can I do?
Hi all. I can't connect to my Win 8.1 box from Linux Mint. I can ping the Win box successfully. I can access my Linux share from my Win box. It seems like the problem is with windows. I've been working on this problem for about three days now with no luck. I've uninstalled Norton Security in my Win box. I've deactivated Microsoft's firewall. Not helping. My smb.conf is:
[homes]
read only = no
security = domain
workgroup = WORKGROUP
[share]
comment = Shared Data
path = /home/gary/share
gues ok = yes
writeable = no
browseable = yes
To make things simple i created only one shared folder on my Win box, asm. On Linux i type: sudo mount.cifs //GARYZ97/asm /home/gary/share -o user=Gary ; Gary is apparently my correct Windows username. BTW, i've also tried gary.
Linux responds with: [sudo] password for gary: jj ; this is my correct sudo password
Next response is: Password for Gary@//GARYZ97/asm: ; here i have tried my Microsoft Account password; i've tried just hitting enter; i've tried jj my Linux password. I'm at my wits end. What am i doing wrong? I've googled so many different sites but no one seems to have the problem i have. Please help. I don't want to pull out all my hair. I can access my Linux share from Windows, edit it, save it, and i see the changes on my Linux box. I know i'm being repetitive here but i just can't access my Windows share from Linux. I have run testparm on smb.conf and no problems there. Almost forgot. After entering what i believe is my correct Windows password i get: mount error(115): Operation now in progress, and then on the next line, Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)
I first did the "try it", running it from the CD. I had the option to install from there and did. I cannot download any thing. My user name is John and there are 5 dots in the password space? My version is: ubuntu 14.04 lts. I was not able to change the root to read-write so I could change the password. Nothing worked unbuntu does connect to my wifi.
I'm a real newbie but what I 've tried in ubuntu has impressed me.
Help please
Hi everybody,
I used to be a Linux developer, but I have not used Linux or anything UNIX-like for a long time (more than 10 years). I had it installed by someone else and assumed that the root password is not set. Turned out - it has been. I can logged in as "owner" because I have guessed the password ("password") but no such luck with root. Can anything (other than reinstallation) be done? Is there some default password that root gets at installation that someone at this forum knows? Any other suggestions?
Thank you in advance.

Hi

I found an old laptop that has centos 5.5 installed. I reset the root password, but I need to reset the gui password. Is there a way to view this password or reset it? I have not worked with Linux over 5 years and am rusty on all the commands
Hello.
How can I write an Script that enter my password for "sudo" command automatically?
for example, I want to run a command that need root permission and when I write it in a bash script, it ask me "sudo" password for user but how can I automate it?
Can it possible for other program like logging via SSH too?
Thank you.
is there a way via terminal to reset the username and password for my router?
i have recently started working with the terminal and in order to use ssh im going to need to download some software and enter the username and password for the router which i havent a clue what it is. im not sure i ever set the username and password on it????
if i could re make the username and password for my router i would then be able to get this ssh working.
or is this not possible?
Hi, I forgot my password so went into root to change it.
From grub menu, Ubuntu : advanced options : ubuntu recovery : network : root
input passwd then typed in a new password and re-entered password. rebooted.
Tried to uninstall Firefox from software centre but the new password was not accepted for authentication.
Could anyone advise what the problem could be or suggest what I may have done wrong. The password appeared to be accepted ok in root. Thanks
