Trouble Printing Under Xubuntu

Arch linux, lxdm/lxde, recent installation, feeling I must be doing something stupid, would be glad to be guided!

I have a Brother HL-2030 printer connected to a Raspberry Pi as a print server, CUPS setup, with sharing turned on. Other machines in the household, and indeed other OS's on the machine I'm writing on, print trouble-free to this printer.

On *this* desktop machine, (with libcups installed,) other programs print trouble-free. Firefox, Thunderbird, geany and evince all detect the presence of the network printer, and work as expected.

It's just Libreoffice that does not. This is true both of libreoffice-fresh and libreoffice-still, and it is true for all the components (write, draw, calc etc).

Libreoffice *does* find the network printer from other OS's that I play with; I have Puppy and Mint on the same machine, but those installs of Libreoffice are obviously different/earlier versions (nor do I feel like upgrading them in the circumstances!)

In this context, though, the Libreoffice "File>Printer settings..." menu offers me only a "Generic Printer" (whose properties and options I can edit). If I ask Libreoffice to print to this generic printer, it reports no failure, but that task just seems to disappear into thin air.

I am unable to print on my Printer : Brother DCP-J925DW

But when I try to print a pdf document or a test page via cups website (http://localhost:631/printers) nothing happens.

I have cups 1.7 set up. And have a printer LaserJet P1606DN configured. But with one user, every morning the first printing gets errror "Unable to write print data: Broken pipe". After that printing works fine. Printer is set with maximum sleep time "after 1 hour".

Any ideas, what to check?

I am trying to reprint pages from 16th feb via local host cups - it does not give me an option to reprint from cups page.
I sent a command via iMac terminal and it came back with answer
No files to print.??? Can anyone help I need to reprint these pages!!!!!

I just got an Epson WF-3620 all-in-one printer last week, to replace an older Epson WF 600 all-in-one. Both of these printers use the same universal Linux driver; it is identified on the Epson website as the ESC/P-R generic driver, version 1.4.4.

With my older Epson WF 600, I had no problems with print quality. With the new printer, copies look great, and test pages are perfect, but when I try to print a document from my hard drive, I get something that looks like a draft-quality printout. Blacks come out pale gray, and anything less than black drops out completely. I've tried changing the media type from plain papers-draft to plain papers-high in Properties/Printer Options, as recommended to another poster with the same problem on forums.openprinting.org, but this didn't work for me.

I tried calling Epson, just on the off chance that I'd get someone familiar with Linux, but wasn't lucky this time. Epson officially doesn't support Linux. I managed after some effort to get them to tell me the procedure for adjusting the print quality in Windows and Mac, just in case I could extrapolate it to Linux, but the menus are completely different.

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 580s desktop. I am running Linux Mint 13.

If no one knows a fix for this, one other thing that would be helpful is any recommendations for other all-in-one printer brands that support Linux. Thanks.

Hi - I just installed KDE 3.2 and OpenOffice on my Debian PC. Both are great program but I can't print in OpenOffice. I configured my HP Laserjet printer in the Control Center & prints a test page with no problem. However, it's not in the list of printers in OpenOffice. There's two printers listed in the drop-down list - lp and Generic Printer - but not the LaserJet. How do I get my LaserJet to show up in the list of printers in OpenOffice? I am trying to setup HP P1102 printer on Ubuntu 14.04. I have downloaded foo2zjs-z2 and hplip-3.14.10 but I do not know what to do with them. The computer recognines printer but it will not print. I have already tried test page 161 times. please help.

I have a Dell Optiplex 170L I'm using now running Xubuntu. It's okay but it's getting a little sluggish. I'm attaching the RAM printout.

Somebody gave me an LG computer that's much newer. But it's been cloned from another Dell Optiplex 170L so that's what the spec says. Anyway, here's what it says:

2.09 GHz, 3.25 GB RAM

Hardrive is 74GB. Which is more than double my 36GB now.

But I noticed (see 009 attachment) my old computer has a faster processor (2.80 Ghz).

This new one has XP on it. So I'd probably single boot Xubuntu to it. (Or could it handle a bigger distro?)

I have another identical computer (to my old one) that I added a half GB RAM to and it helped. I could do the same to this one.

Or use the new one.

I am a true newbie and not up for the switch, but if it would be worth it I would. Think I should?

Hey guys, I'm trying to send my text document to my printer but I'm not having too much luck.

I'm typing lpr -p hpprinter test.txt

In order to trouble shoot can you please advise me on.....

01. Should the -p be an uppercase P ?

02. How do I set the default printer?

I just want to make sure I have these right.

I'm not sure if this should be in the newbie section, but I am somewhat of a newbie, so here goes:

In a home network, I have an Xubuntu file server with a Samba share that has me as the owner and authorizes me to access the share.

On another computer, I have Mint running and providing various services, including webdav on Apache with SSL. In the var/www/webdav directory of the Mint computer, I have the Xubuntu Samba share mounted. This is supposed to allow me to access the Samba share from the public internet.

Everything works fine except for one big problem: Apache requires the owner of the webdav directory to be user "www-data," and I can't figure out how to give www-data access to the Samba share, since www-data is not a user on the Xubuntu computer, and moreover I don't know the password for user www-data.

Can anyone figure out how to get around this problem? In particular, is there a way to configure the Samba share on the Xubuntu computer so that user www-data on the Mint computer can have access to it?

(Incidentally, I have my reasons for using two computers, one as a file server and one as a web server. Also, I am thinking about switching to NFS instead of Samba, but I'm not sure if even that would solve my problem.)
