Hello everyone,

I recently installed AntiX debian Linux on an old IBM thinkpad T42. I have been trying to install some software using tar files but I kept getting the error the the C compiler cannot create executables. Can anyone help me out. Here is an example of the error. I do not know if the config.log details will help but i will post them if it will help.

Need Help Installing NS 2.26 With RSVP-TE Patch

Installed CentOS 3.9 (it seems NS2 2.26 installs well on this distro) but when trying to get packages with yum seems the repo is not working anymore.

If any one could help to solve the problem of installation i would greatly appreciate

I Try To Install Ns2.33 On Ubuntu 10.10 In Order To Run ZRP Protocol

Hello every one
please I need your help to fix my problem to install ns2.33allinone on the ubuntu 10.10 in order to run ZRP protocol for security purpose.
before this time I install every thing correctly as follow
The steps I follow to run the ZRP on the Ubuntu 10.10 and Ns2-allinone-2.33
------------------------------------------------------------------
1. first install the Ubuntu 10.10 on VMwear and download the ns2.33 and exract it in the home directory

2.Ubuntu 10.10 - 32´ is old. you have to replace the text in /etc/apt/sources.list , to be able to install packages.
So you write
$ gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
After the file open remove all the text and past the following text instead it.
#
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick main restricted
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick multiverse universe
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-updates main restricted
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-updates multiverse universe
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-backports main restricted
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-backports multiverse universe
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-security main restricted
deb http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-security multiverse universe
#

Then save the file and close.

3.Write the following command to update the system
$ sudo apt-get update

4.download the two files from the following link and save it in the home directory

gcc41-compat , `gcc41-compat-4.1.2_i386.deb' :
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7S...it?usp=sharing
g++41-compat , `g++41-compat-4.1.2_i386.deb' :
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7S...it?usp=sharing

5.write the following command to install
$ sudo dpkg -i g++41-compat-4.1.2_i386.deb gcc41-compat-4.1.2_i386.deb

6.write the following command to update the packages
$sudo apt-get install libx11-dev libxmu-dev libxmu-headers libxt-dev libtool make automake autoconf g++

7. Download the ZRP from the following link and put it in the ns-allinone-2.33 directory
The latest "patch package" is zrp-ns233-patching.tar.gz
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7S...it?usp=sharing

8. After that you should follow the next steps
$ cd ns-allinone-2.33/
$ tar xvf zrp-ns233-patching.tar.gz
$ export CC=gcc41 CXX=g++41
$ ./install
$ cd ns-2.33/
$ sudo make install

9. Then you can download the example of the ZRP from the following link and run
ZRP examples : zrp-examples-2012.tar.bz2
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7S...it?usp=sharing

but now when i try to install it again i got this error
after i run "./install" command
#

Checking Presence Of A File Identified/ Addressed By A Variable

hi,

I am newbie in Linux shell scripting.Can anybody help me to check the presence of file identified by variable in Shell scripting?

For example: I am reading the content of a file using while command as below:
"while read -r line
do
code block
done < file_name"

Now in this case every line in file gets stored in the variable 'line' one by one.Problem here is every line in the file is nothing but the file_path of another file say xyz.txt and I am checking presence of this xyz.txt file using below command:
if [-f $line]
as 'line' is the variable which stores file path of xyz.txt but it is not working. It is unable to check the presence of this xyz.txt file as i am addressing it with the variable 'line'.

Please help me.Thanks in advance.

Cron Ignoring Changes Made In File

Hi,

i have a small problem on my system... I recently wrote a small bash script and added it via crontab -u root -e and it's executed as it should.
Then a few days after i did edit my bash script, but once it is run by cron it doesn't reflect the changes i made to the script. I did manually restart crond, tryed sync, moved my script, renamed it even rstart the server - no success.
If i run my script manually it returns me the expected output.
part of my script (/root/sd.sh):
Code:
#!/bin/sh

echo -n "Checking Raid... "

Correctly Measure Available Memory In Linux

I'm currently using the command below, to output the memory usage of a debian system in bash scripts.

Code:
memusage=$(memusage=$(/usr/bin/free | grep Mem | awk '{print $3/$2 * 100.0 "%"}' | cut -d "%" -f1);echo "$(printf "%0.0f\n" $memusage)") && echo Memory Usage is $memusage

Being new to Linux though, I just found out that Linux takes up a lof of memory and puts it in cached.

Code:
root@Client1:~# free -m
             total used free shared buffers cached
Mem:           927        799        128          0         15        754
-/+ buffers/cache:         28        898
Swap:           99          0         99

So the first command will actually output that the memory usage is 87%, when in reality is not. Its actually thinking that the memory usage is high because its also counting the cached memory, as used memory.

How can I modify the first command not to consider cached memory, as used memory?

Thanks

Automating Script To Run Every Minute Through Other Manually Created User Using Crond

Hy All,

I have two nodes running RHEL 6.4 which are in cluster. I have clustered httpd service. Now I have certain application suppose X which reside in SAN partition. Now my job is to only automate this script to run by analyzing httpd status. I have successfully created the script apptrigger.sh whose content is given below,

-bash-4.1$ cat apptrigger.sh
a=0
b=0
c=0
d=0
a="service httpd status"
b=`eval $a`
##### CHECKING WHETHER HTTPD SERVICE IS RUNNING OR NOT #####
if [ "$b" != "httpd is stopped" ]; then
c="bash /switchapp/switch/ezlinkenterprise/bin/ezlink-cluster.sh status"
d=`eval $c`
##### CHECKING WHETHER EZ IS RUNNING OR NOT #####
if [ "$d" != "EzTaskMgr is Running" ]; then
ezstart
fi
fi

I have created this script in say test user. Now when I put this script to automate or run every minute through test user and defined its value in crontab -e of test user whose content is as shown below
$crontab -l
* * * * * /bin/bash /home/test/apptrigger.sh

but this script is running as root user so I cannot get the o/p
I think some environment variable need to be set. Anyone can guide me with this step? Thanks for your views and suggestion.
