Ssh_exchange_identification: Connection Closed By Remote Host

Hi,
I try to co connect to a linux server and get following message:

Now I am trying to figure out what the problem is but I cannot connect to the target server. Is there any other way to connect except using ssh?
Thanx

RSA Key Auth. For Connecting To Root Is Not Working.

Hey Guys!

Using RHEL v5.7, I am trying to make a connection between two servers with rsa key auth. I need to connect directly to the root as it's privileges are needed for changing password. RSA key is working for normal users but I cannot connect to root. I changed the sshd_config file as

PermitRootLogin without-password
RSAAuthentication yes
PubkeyAuthentication yes

and restart it (on both sides). Files permissions are below:

(Sender server=> /root/.ssh directory's permission is 700)

-rw------- 1 root root 1675 May 25 15:14 id_rsa
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 392 May 25 15:14 id_rsa.pub
-rw------- 1 root root 2743 May 21 09:13 known_hosts
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1177 Mar 30 09:38 known_hosts.old

(Remote server to connect)

-rw------- 1 root root 392 Apr 20 15:35 authorized_keys
-rw------- 1 root root 668 Mar 30 10:08 id_dsa
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 601 Mar 30 10:08 id_dsa.pub
-rw------- 1 root root 1675 Apr 28 11:09 id_rsa
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 393 Apr 14 14:40 id_rsa.pub
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1178 Apr 28 08:58 known_hosts

Also I provide the verbose output when I run the ssh connection:

Files Missing Using Git Add Command

hi,
I'm cross-compiling a linux kernel. And I want to use git to manage the project. When I first add the project to the git index and commit, then I clone it out, I failed to compile it with the file missing information printed. The file missing is like include/linux/autoconf.h amount many others.
PS:I have no gitignore in the current directory.
Please take a look and give some hints if anyone has some thoughts.
Thanks.

Creating A Large Tar Ile Form A Sequence Of Small Tar Files And One Files Is Missing

I am trying to put back together a big atr file from some smaller tar files that I created several years ago. The issue is that in order to tar this large file, I must put each file back using the command

tar -xMf cd-1.tar
Prepare volume #2 for 'cd-1.tar' and hit return:n cd-2.tar
Prepare volume #3 for 'cd-2.tar' and hit return:n cd-3.tar
and so forth.

I have fourteen files cd-1.tar through cd-15.tar. The cd-9.tar files is missing and I assume that it is gone. Now when I type the commands in I get the following:

Code:
-linux tarfile]$ tar -xMf cd-1.tar
Prepare volume #2 for `cd-1.tar' and hit return: n cd-2.tar
Prepare volume #3 for `cd-2.tar' and hit return: n cd-3.tar
Prepare volume #4 for `cd-3.tar' and hit return: n cd-4.tar
Prepare volume #5 for `cd-4.tar' and hit return: n cd-5.tar
Prepare volume #6 for `cd-5.tar' and hit return: n cd-6.tar
Prepare volume #7 for `cd-6.tar' and hit return: n cd-7.tar
Prepare volume #8 for `cd-7.tar' and hit return: n cd-8.tar
Prepare volume #9 for `cd-8.tar' and hit return: n cd-10.tar
tar: This volume is out of sequence (10755138772 - 4889670868 != 6598651392)
Prepare volume #9 for `cd-10.tar' and hit return: n cd-10.tar
tar: This volume is out of sequence (10755138772 - 4889670868 != 6598651392)
Prepare volume #9 for `cd-10.tar' and hit return:
tar: This volume is out of sequence (10755138772 - 4889670868 != 6598651392)

As you can see I do not have cd-9.tar. That stops the untarring cold. However, I have cd-10.tar,cd-11.tar,cd-12.tar,cd-13.tar,cd-14.tar,cd-15.tar. Now I may have these files, but they cannot be put back in the main file because cd-9.tar is missing and everything must be put in sequentially.

Is there a way to complete this sequence of steps and add all fourteen files to the files bigbackup leaving out cd-9.tar? That means that the bigbackup file will be incomplete, but that is better than no file or having bigbackup missing six files on the back end.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Automatic LVM Names Include Hyphens

I am trying to setup an Ubuntu server and have been running into trouble with the automatic LVM naming including a hyphen. IE HomeServer-vg.

I have gotten errors when partitioning in webmin and have seen the volume group written with two hyphens instead of one(HomeServer--vg) but haven't figured out the proper way to deal with it. I finally reinstalled the server from the beginning and followed some instructions to rename the volume group and took out the hyphen. No more errors in webmin, but I have to assume I am missing a normal bit of knowledge that everyone knows about this. I just installed a virtual machine and it created a volume group name with a hyphen also.

So, what am I missing?

What's Missing In Lubuntu

In August of this year I'm going to build a dedicated linux audio computer. I have been using ubuntu studio on my cheapo dell optiplex to learn linux and to get used to different programs and see which ones I need.

Lubuntu seems to use less cpu than ubuntu studio for the same program. I don't want any other programs on my system part from ardour, jack and a few misc MP3 players. All audio. It says that ubuntu studio is a low latency program, does this mean that Lubuntu isn't low latency? It seems that Lubuntu is running the program easier but I'm nervous to go with it because I fear it may be missing certain components to keep it less needy of cpu power.
What are your thoughts on this.

Sending Mail From Command Line

I searched the forums for my title and I am not finding exactly what I am looking for. I am not using a program to send mail, such as Thunderbird or whatever. I simply want to be able to send mail from my Ubuntu 14.04 DESKTOP version for logging. I use a program called Logwatch (used alot in RHEL or CentOS) to monitor the server itself. The program sends mail to the root user account on the machine, which I can check and see, and within the program conf file, I can add an external email address, but it never sends.

I'm familiar with the SMTP concept of sending mail, outgoing mail server authentication, etc. I don't care to run this box as an SMTP server, but I understand that I need some sort of SMTP or MTA program to send mail into the real world. I tried Postfix but couldn't get that to work, and the Logwatch program wants to use sendmail, so I installed that but I am having the same issue. I am sure it is a step I am missing.

I also can't figure out how to get the 'mail' cmd from Terminal to work. I use this command:
Code:
mail -s "test" | /usr/sbin/mail myemail@domain.com

it follows through the subject, CC, body, but when I try to hit either . or CTRL-D, it never sends the email, in fact is does nothing.

I also tried sendmail with this command:
Code:
sendmail -v my@email.com < /dev/null

I was just trying to send a test email. It logs into my SMTP mail server, which I already configured, and it tells me to type out the mail, then end with a "." by itself on a single line. I try this and it just sits there.

I am missing SOMETHING when trying to actually send the mail. I can get it written with subject and body, connected, but it never sends and I am probably missing a / or something.

I did find and follow these instructions, but it still isn't working with sendmail. If I need to go back to Postfix, I can do that, I don't honestly care what I use, I just want some programs such as Logwatch to be able to email me.
