Time Sync Problem Between VirtualBox And Host System

hello all,
i actually am new to using VirtualBox, so am not aware with much of its functionalities.

my problem here is that when i take a snapshot at say 10am , and then restore that snapshot an hour later at 11am and then start the VM then the time in the host system is 11am but the VM shows the time as 10am and continues from there itself.. i tried waiting for some time to see if it would sync the time automatically, but it didnt.

so is there any command using which i can sync the time between the VM and host system?

i have searched and found that VM GuestAdditions helps to sync the time instantly within 10 sec or so.. but i dont want to use it because i have heard that many problems have occured after installing the GuestAdditions..

so without GuestAdditions is there any command to sync the time?

thankyou to all in advance

How To Synchronize Time Between Windows And Linux

In my machine I have dual operating systems (windows7 and sabayon). After installing the linux I found the time was not correct. I had to change the time zone to get it right.

Then when I got back to windows surprisingly I found that the time in windows have also changed. I changed the time in windows and then when I got back to linux the time has changed.

I just don't understand how to get of the problem. Is there really any way out there to sync the time in both the operating systems.

Set Up Chrony With Local Time Source In The Server

Hi Guys,

I have set up chrony with local clock, but when I issue chronyc tracking the leap status shows its not synchronised

[root@redhat_1 ~]# chronyc tracking
Reference ID : 127.127.1.1 ()
Stratum : 10
Ref time (UTC) : Sat Jan 10 00:29:47 2015
System time : 0.000000000 seconds fast of NTP time
Last offset : 0.000000000 seconds
RMS offset : 0.000000000 seconds
Frequency : 0.000 ppm fast
Residual freq : 0.000 ppm
Skew : 0.000 ppm
Root delay : 0.000000 seconds
Root dispersion : 0.000001 seconds
Update interval : 0.0 seconds
Leap status : Not synchronised

I edited the chrony.conf file and added " server localhost iburst" and uncommented the "local stratum 10 " to enable sync with local time source.

Let me know how to sync this with my local server time.

Can Virtualbox Run Live Guest Servers?

hi guys,

just a quick one on virtualbox...

could i have centos 7 running virtual box...then host another 3 vm's on it that are running live at the same time?
or is this best for vmware?

i would like centos 7
then another centos7 vm
debian vm
slackware vm (headless)

its a i5 with 8gb RAM...the vm's wont be doing much work, prob ssh into each to setup things and experiment
maybe run a couple of small wordpress web sites...nothing drastic...

any advice on the best way to get this result?

How To Set A Time Limit Of Ssh

I have a hostlist and there are several hosts. I want to use ssh to connect to them. I want to see whether the host is available or not by the time length of ssh takes. If it take long than 5s (which means it is not available). Then stop it, and ssh to next host. Once a host is available, then output the name of host. I previously use nmap, but the IT security told it is not allowed to install it on the desktop on campus.
Code:
host_list="/home/campus27/zwang10/Desktop/cluster/program/hostlist"
HOSTS=`cat $host_list`
for line in $HOSTS
do
timeout -5s `ssh $line`
done

The above script is all I can do.

Linux Pro's And Noobs! A Challenge, Please Take A Crack At This! (TIME SENSATIVE,)

Do it like this is your situation, your server, and the dir that are mentioned below, act like they are yours! im just looking for an accurate answer!

whenever you log in, your shell executes commands that it finds in your dotfiles, specifically .bash_login. In your .bash_login, add a series of commands that will first create a directory named ~/sysadmin1/my_peeps/$DATE, where $DATE is today's date in the format mmddyy. This command should succeed whether or not the directory ~/sysadmin1/my_peeps already exists. Then, it will redirect the output of the w command (which lists the currently logged in users on the system) to a file inside this newly created directory called users.$TIME, where $TIME is the current time in the format hhmmss (use 24 hour time).

In order to do this, you must use a new concept: assignment of a variable from the output of a command. For example, in order to set the variable EXAMPLEDATE using the unformatted output of the date command, you would do the following:

EXAMPLEDATE=`date`

The characters surrounding the date command are called "backticks." They are usually located on the same key as ~. They are not single quotation marks. This is actually another kind of expansion called "Command Substitution" (you can learn more in bash's manpage).

For this project, you can use the date command to get both the date and the current time, however, you will have to consult date's manpage to find out how to change the formatting.
