Default Locales Differences??

I have a shell script that currently changes the mac address of eth0 repeatedly. However, it does not change the public IP address, confirmed by wget -qO- ipinfo.io/ip .

The script needs to change the IP Address statically.

Also, ultimately, what I am trying to accomplish, for security reasons, is to frequently and automatically change a computer's public IP address and mac address. This way, my office's computers, when using the Internet, has an additional form of protection.

Having installed kernel 17.045 I get an error line "No support for Locale: en_GB.utf8"

I am looping through a file and then want to run some commands. Below is my code.

Im trying to tidy up a web scrape txt file so it just shows the URL's..
As below, I've got most with just the url but struggling to work out how to delete extra txt within a line, without deleting the whole line.
i.e a command that says.. delete from this word.. till end of line .. or delete everything between word1 and word2

I've just compiled my own kernel (debian), but I have no idea how to boot it. I don't know how to get to the grub menu. I've tried holding shift down at start up but it doesn't work! When I hold down esc it asks me what I want to boot?

I've read that I have to edit the file /etc/default/grub - but I can't since don't have it..

Does anyone know how?

Finally the error in red immediately above pops up.
I searched the net and found a site with an article dated back in 2010 that said to fix the error before rebooting or I'd probably not be able to boot to Linux.
Which I'm doing right now, I've not yet rebooted.

How should I recover from such an error before I reboot.

The site had several solutions depending upon other variables, one of which was to delete and/or re-run something. But none of the solutions seemed to fit my case.

I'm running the Zorin OS 9 Theme on top of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, an AMD PhenomII 64bit 4 core processor on an ASUS MB. The video card is also an AMD/ATI, hence the need for the fglrx drivers listed above.

I'm not sure if the overwriting of the ATI/AMD driver config files shown above are responsible for the error or not. I did nothing that I was aware of that might have caused it, except close another instance of terminal that was runnning, and a libre office writer window.

Any ideas on how to solve this before I reboot would be greatly appreciated.

RHEL changed the w default options in 7!!! (or at least Centos did) Is there a way to get them back?

In particular the -f flag is gone now as a default option, to show the IP, of the person connecting.

Which means instead of a simple 1 letter:
Code:

w

You have to do:
Code:

w -f

or Code:

finger

If there an easy way to add that option back as a default option? (Other than making an alias).

I have just install kde 4.14.6 on the top of my arch linux. In dolphin, I am trying to add some of my directories (as bookmarks) under places, but dolphin clears the (bookmarks or) places entries everytime kde restarts leaving only default entries under the tab of "places". Is there any problem here or bug or something else. Kindly check the following screenshot:

I was trying to write a simple menu using the "dialog" function only to find out that the version of linux i am running (I have previously worked on HP/Sun/ICL/AIX versions of unix)does not have the "dialog exe" and the one that someone has put on this box is not compatible.As follows:-

what file manager is everybody using?
does it really matter...

cant find what the default file manager there is for centos 7
but it has dolphin installed as well but doesnt use it by default
im running gnome 3

i read that konqueror is good...is it mostly just preference

lastly

do most linux systems have components of kde and gnome installed by default...even if you arent using those desktops? cause i dont have kde desktop installed yet i read that dolphin uses kde.
