Seeks Search Engine - How To Install And Use

I have come across the Seeks search engine which is based on the AGPLv3 licence. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seeks
It seems like it's a free software/open source search engine.
I thought I could install it as a plugin on a web browser. However, it seems it's a bit more complicated than that.

I haven't had much luck finding out more on the net and there's nothing on Youtube.
Does anyone know anything about this search engine and how to use it?
Thank you in advance.

Search Function For FireFox Browser?

It is too bad there is no search capability in the Mozilla browser. While reading large pdf files I am forced to copy their content into gedit and use its search tool.

Is there a way to change that? Thanks, - A.

Totally Upset, Cant Get Hulu To Play In Debian.

But I would like to know how to get hulu running on my debian system.

Command Line IP Printing

Hi Forum,

I have a network printer (HP) running on 192.168.85.24 and I wish to install something that enables me to just shoot pdf och ps files directly to it from the command line, however, it has been hard finding something that describes how to make a bare bones setup like that, the most info I find talk about user interfaces, clicking menues opening web browsers etc, I want things incredibly simple, then they are more robust.

Do you have a tutorial on how to just get an HP-printer to accept ps och or pdf files from the command line?

I run Debian with LXDE and have contact with the printer. (I tested with ping.)

Another question I have is for this forum, do you have a search function? If I had had a search function I would have searched for an answer to the question before posting it.

Kind regards
Johnny

Install Fglrx Driver Instead The Open Source Radeon In Debian 7?

Hello, my video card "Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Cedar PRO [Radeon HD 5450/6350]"

Should I install the fglrx driver instead of keeping the open source radeon as per current install?

Using Xargs And Grep In Find Command

I've been using this a lot:

find <directory to start search at> -name "<files to search in>" -type f | xargs grep "<string to search for>"

e.g.

find /usr/include -name "*.h" -type f | xargs grep "#define UINT"

now what if I wanted to output the results to a file?

Resolve Configuratin

Hello Gurus,

I am trying to understand the concept of resolve conf and hope to get some understanding.
When reviewing a sample resolv.conf @
http://www.shellhacks.com/en/Setup-D...nf-in-Examples

stumbled on a scenario.

Lets say I have the following in my resolv.conf

less /etc/resolv.conf
search uncc.org uat.uncc.org sit.uncc.org uat2.uncc.org
intranet.uncc.org
nameserver 192.168.0.100

now if I run command, Note: There is no such thing called appserver
Quote:
ping appserver
My Questions:

1 ) How many lookups are being performed. And which domains are being searched ?

2 ) Will the look up go thru all the 5 domains listed against search directive ?

3) When both directives are provided "search" and "nameserver" will the look up happen on both directives and can both directives be used together ?

Help is much appreciated.

Searching For A Specific Username

Hey guys,

I've recently started learning Linux, and I was wondering if anyone can tell me how I can search for a specific usernames starting with a certain letter on a Linux system.

For example: How do I get it to display all the usernames starting with a J? (So that it would show me, Jack, Jason, John, etc...)
I tried to find the answer online, but haven't had much luck so far.

The Problem Of Learning Linux

They say there are no secrets in Linux. I am finding that learning about Linux is becoming a life long experience. I have just started using a Debian distribution that is behind the Raspberry pi. My first problem was that the display would go to sleep after about 15 mins when not used. I wanted to turn this feature off. That is I wanted the display to be on all the time.
After some web searching I came across a way to do this. It involved a file in the root area called "lightdm" which stands for light display manager (I think).
Then under this as a file called the lightdm.conf file. Just one line in the config file gets modified. Now doing this via the monkey see monkey do method works. But trying to find out how this works and exactly what the cryptic commands do, ends up being a frustrating endless search. I tried to find the source code for lightdm buts its documentation is certainly not for beginners.
I tried finding out what a "greeter" was once again huge amounts of time spent trying to make sense of endless terminology.

It seems that nowadays trying to learn about the details of any software system is just so hard. Like try and find good documentation on drivers.
Don't get me wrong I love the fact that at least Linux is open source but I wish there was an easy way to learn about it.

Easy Way To Find Bots/spiders And Block Them From Nginx Access.log

Hi

I am looking for an easy way to find bots or wired user agents from my huge log file so i can block them but my access.log is very big and is not so easy to search each line

Any other way or any useful grep command?

At the moment i have this:

Code:
grep 'spider\|bot' access.log | sort -u -f >> bots.txt

Still trying to work out how to just print out the spider / bot name and remove the duplicates....

Looking also for some ideas for what else i can search for other than spider/bot as i don't know what else is bad or can cause huge load on my server....

Thanks
