Hi,
This might be odd, but in GNOME Shell 3.10.4 in fedora 20, I used to throw the mouse to the top left of the screen and that would make me feel excited about having all the open windows jam packed and then again selecting one I wanted. It really gave me a thrill.
But, in GNOME Shell 3.14.4, fedora 21 (workstation), I have to "click" on the "activities" on the top-left :-((
Is there any way I can change GNOME Shell 3.14.4 in way to have that feature back?
Hello, as you see from the title I am having problems with GNOME. I wanted to install gnome so I have followed how to do this on official website, but only got the bright gray screen with text "Oh no something has gone wrong" and a button "Log out". Could somebody please help me?
Hi guys/gals.
I installed Debian Jessie with LXDE as my default desktop environment, no problems, except I can't play most games. So installed the Meta Package of the Gnome Desktop environment. Everything appeared to be ok, but when I went to reboot, all I get is a black screen.
I went to the Grub and typed in "nomodeset" to get me back to a desktop.
I uninstalled Gnome (not full removal), but still have the same problem.
When I restarted in safety mode, Gnome was still a desktop option that I could load, which I did. I'm confused. Do I need to do a complete removal?
I tried installing the nvidia graphic card driver as per the Debian manual, and that left me with only a root terminal and no GUI.
I've got about 2Gigs of ram and a 2.4 GHz Pentium 3 processor with an ASUS motherboard. (yes, it's a 12 year old computer, but not used for the past few years)
Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance,
Joe
Hi - I have the most aggravating problem. On my RHEL 5.2 w/s using gnome (or KDE), if you select "lock screen" from the pulldown and then try to unlock the screen with your password you logged in successfully with in the first place, it comes back shaking it's head INCORRECT PASSWORD. I did some digging and the /var/log/secure file is spitting out:
gnome-screensaver-dialog: pam_unix(gnome-screensaver:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=500 euid=500 tty=0.0 ruser= rhost= user=username
Then below that also:
gnome-screensaver-dialog: pam_unix(gnome-screensaver:auth): auth could not identify password for [username]
I find this is happening on a few of my other RHEL systems too: RHEL 5.5, 6.0, and 6.5.
Help!

Greetings,
I have been tinkering around with a distribution called gNewSense, a distribution endorsed and sponsored by the Free Software Foundation. I'm currently running version 3.1
I had a question about it.
I was wondering what the default desktop environment is. It looks to me like either Gnome 2 or the MATE desktop environment. I'm not sure which one it is. Both desktop environments look very similar to me.
A few places on the internet seem to indicate that it might actually be Gnome 2, however, I was under the impression that development for that version of the Gnome desktop has long ago stopped, and, in essence, the MATE desktop has taken it's place and continues to be developed for.
Thank you

Hi I am taking a Linux class at my local community college, I have a laptop that I would like to use but don't want to delete the entire window OS. I have a usb harddrive that I can use at least 200GB off the hard drive. For class we are using "a practical guide to Fedora and Red Hat Enterprise Linux, which gives you a copy of Fedora 19. I have tried to load the disk onto the usb hard drive I which is no problem until I reboot. I get a "can not find tocblock. database may be corrupt" then feodra loads with no problem. I can login but after logging in the GNOME welcome page shows up and after that the video screen goes haywire and you cant see anything. any thougts?
Hello am a newbie to linux,
I tried to install cygwin for windows, all i need is i need to write a shell program for a batch file i already have, I am not able to do this.
My batch file content looks like
SET JAVA_HOME=..\jdk
SET CLASSPATH="%CLASSPATH%;../lib/A.jar;../lib/slf4j-api-1.6.1.jar;../lib/slf4j-simple-1.6.1.jar"
%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java.exe com.A ../conf/C.properties

The pblm i face is say my current directory where my shell program is 'Z'
