Multiple Apache Servers - Shared Storage

Hi All,
Hopefully a simple question to answer. I am going to be setting up multiple Apache web servers behind a F5 load balancer and need to share the documentRoot out to all the servers. I have a dedicated SAN which I want to use and I've been searching to find a concrete document that states if its ok to use an iscsi drive or NFS mounted to all web servers but haven't seen anything concrete to say thats the normal or best practice way to setup that environment. My main concern is writing to the file at the same etc.

Can someone advise what they do for multiple web servers?

Thanks

Python Script To Detect OS And Update Name Server And Options In Resolve.conf On Mult

I am trying to code a python script that does:- Using root account logs into multiple servers provided in a list. Check the OS type e.g. Linux, Solaris, HP-UX and Windows. Depending on the OS type it updates the name servers and options in /etc/resolv.conf. The update is done from a list that is also provided.

Any help is much appreciated.

Permission Denied Editing Web Files

I am a bit confused and not sure what to look up to fix this issue. When I log in as user, I cannot edit my /var/www/html files.

I have the ownership of /var/www/html set to apache:apache (using centos 7). When I check groups for user it shows user and apache. That does mean I'm apart of the apache group right, and if the /var/www/html is owned by apache, I should be able to edit?

Multiple Openssl

Hi,

Friends,

Good Morning to all. I have some queries about openssl. I googled for by query but i did not got the relevant answer, hence I came here and i am guaranteed that you gyes will help me definitely as you helped me before as well.

My scenario is I had one centOS 6 server which had openssl version as
Code:
 rpm -qa|grep openssl
openssl-1.0.1e-30.el6_6.5.x86_64
openssl-devel-1.0.1e-30.el6_6.5.x86_64

CentOS 6 provides php5.3 as default
Code:
yum list php
Loaded plugins: downloadonly, fastestmirror, presto
Determining fastest mirrors
base | 3.7 kB 00:00

But I need php5.2, so i preferd to go compilation. It gave me some errors while doing make regarding openssl. I googled for it, gave solution of downgrading openssl.

As default openssl can't be removed, I prefered installing openssl-0.9.x through compilation with --prefix option. After doing I was able to compile php-5.2 successfully.

Now in my server there are followings installed.

Code:
[next02admin@NEXT02VMD02 ~]$ /usr/bin/openssl version
OpenSSL 1.0.1e-fips 11 Feb 2013 (the default one)

[next02admin@NEXT02VMD02 ~]$ /usr/local/bin/openssl version
OpenSSL 0.9.8e 23 Feb 2007 (the compiled one)

[next02admin@NEXT02VMD02 ~]$ php -v
PHP 5.2.10 (cli) (built: Jul 1 2014 00:39:27)
Copyright (c) 1997-2009 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v2.2.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2009 Zend Technologies

[next02admin@NEXT02VMD02 ~]$ rpm -qa|grep httpd
httpd-tools-2.2.15-39.el6.centos.x86_64
httpd-2.2.15-39.el6.centos.x86_64
httpd-devel-2.2.15-39.el6.centos.x86_64

Now My question is,
1) Is it safe to use both openssl versions simultaneously.
2) Will it cause any vulnerability on my site (prod ENV), if it will affect to prod env, then to what extend.

Your replies will be very very appreciable. I will be very thankful to you.

Cross Compiling Apache-2.4.12 For Arm

Dear all,

I am trying to cross compile Apache httpd-2.4.12 for ARM, but after solving some errors I arrived to a point where I get an error in the make process that I do not know how to solve it.

I am using apr-1.5.2, apr-util-1.5.4 and PCRE-8.37 which I copied to httpd-2.4.12/srclib/ with the names apr, apr-util and pcre.

For compile htttp I use:
Code:
./configure --prefix='/usr/local/apache' CC=arm-xilinx-linux-gnueabi-gcc --host=arm-xilinx-linux-gnueabi --with-included-apr ac_cv_file__dev_zero="yes" ac_cv_func_setpgrp_void="yes"C ap_cv_void_ptr_lt_long="no" ac_cv_struct_rlimit="yes"

The output is:

Does Linux Have Server Roles And Service Accounts Too?

I know in the Windows World, servers have roles (IIS, MSSQL) and there are service accounts.

What is the correct way to refer to a server that just runs Apache, a server role too?

And user/groups accounts, like httpd, are those accounts also referred to as service accounts too?

I just want to make sure I'm using the correct terminological.
