Error Message: "Failed To Fetch Http://dell-mini.archive.canonical.com

Hi,

I haven't used my dell mini with ubuntu operating system for a long time, got fed up with the flaky keyboard. But there are some files on it I need. I know there will be several thousand updates & was prepared to wait however it will not connect (I have entered the latest network key) and I get a whole list of error messages when I load update manager:
"Failed to fetch http:/dell-mini.archive.canonical.com/ubunto/dists/hardy/Release.gpg Could not resolve dell-mini.archive.canonical.com"

Be grateful for guidance

Thanks

Kate

This is my /etc/apt/sources.list :-

Now I am guessing one or more of the entries above are wrong, as probably all of testing-updates would probably come into play once jessie is released, right ?

This was generated via http://debgen.simplylinux.ch/ for lack of better places to generate sources.list from.

New Initrd Needed: Howto Create A Speedy One?

Hello,

I decided to uopdate it with

I have few questions now:
- how to create a quick initrd
- how to avoid that error?

Your help will be much appreciated.

Network Manager Kali Linux 1.1.0 Not Work

Hi everyone, I am a new member and also new to linux, I encountered a problem, but last week I tried but did not solve
I downloaded iso file linux 1.1.0 on page potassium https://www.kali.org, I installed on my Dell inspiron n4010, it works very well and does not have any errors, but after I update and upgrade all packages, I rebooted the system switches to the command line, I lost a lot of time to return to the graphics, but when booting up the network manager icon not seen, I have set the package network-manager-gnome_0.9.4.1-0ubuntu2_i386.deb network manager icon show but when click on the network manager icon only contained text "network manager is not running."
I also installed Wicd but could not run "could not connect to wicd's D-Bus interface. Check the wicd log for error messages."
wireless driver apparently was set before
root@kali:~# airmon-ng
PHY Interface Driver Chipset

phy0 wlan0 wl Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n (rev 01)

please help me!
please guide installed offline, my kali linux no internet connection. can download package from another machine to install.

Package Operation Failed

Ubuntu 14.10 runs great on my laptop but I think I have dependency problems because EVERY time I install or remove software I get the following error message. However everything seems to run just fine...

"Package operation failed"
"The installation or removal of a software package failed."

...and details shows a massive list of gobbledygook with a lot of:

"insserv: Starting vpnagentd_init depends on rc.local and therefore on system facility `$all' which can not be true!"

I can post the whole message but I'll wait for feedback first.

Which Linux System?

I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 1012, which came with a Windows XP operating system. I would like to change to a Linux operating system. Which one would be best for such limited--small capacity--hardware?

I'm Having Trouble Adding Ppa's

I'm running kali linux. I'm having troubles installing pretty much anything, because when I add any ppa using the add-apt-repository command, I get an error message. I'll use simple screen recorder as an example

add-apt-repository ppa:maarten-baert/simplescreenrecorder

maarten-baert/simplescreenrecorder
Executing: gpg --ignore-time-conflict --no-options --no-default-keyring --secret-keyring /tmp/tmp.EQM7zzCyye --trustdb-name /etc/apt//trustdb.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --primary-keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//debian-archive-jessie-automatic.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//debian-archive-jessie-security-automatic.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//debian-archive-jessie-stable.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//debian-archive-squeeze-automatic.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//debian-archive-squeeze-stable.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//debian-archive-wheezy-automatic.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//debian-archive-wheezy-stable.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//kali-archive-keyring.gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com

Can someone please tell me what is going on? I have never been able to add a ppa before using kali linux.

Kali Thumbdrive Boot Error "Failed To Load COM32 Filename Vesamenu.c32

Using a Kingston 4GB datatraveler for drive creation
Created using amd64 1.1.0a of the Kali ISO verified from Kali.org
Drive created using Ubuntu 14.04 on a Dell Latitude E5500

dd seems to create the drive with no errors. The drive boots to the error. Hard reboot into Ubuntu to search for solution has led me to a long series of issues that I have been trying to correct.

A possible fix for the failed to load error is to copy the file to the root of the USB drive (/dev/sdb1). Drive is created with a hidden HPFS/ NTFS fs. 0x17. Changed FS to HPFS/NTS (0x07). Drive now mounts, but when attempting to copy onto drive, I get an error that the file system is read only.

I try to correct the issue using nautilus and the properties menu. It does not allow me to change the view only to read/write even though it shows me as the owner.

I think maybe a command line thing would work, or who knows what else. Maybe an fstab entry? I am continuing to search the web, and hope to work this out.

Any help would be appreciated.

One of the configured repositories failed (Fedora 20 - x86_64 - Updates),
and yum doesn't have enough cached data to continue. At this point the only
safe thing yum can do is fail. There are a few ways to work "fix" this:

1. Contact the upstream for the repository and get them to fix the problem.

2. Reconfigure the baseurl/etc. for the repository, to point to a working
upstream. This is most often useful if you are using a newer
distribution release than is supported by the repository (and the
packages for the previous distribution release still work).

3. Disable the repository, so yum won't use it by default. Yum will then
just ignore the repository until you permanently enable it again or use
--enablerepo for temporary usage:

yum-config-manager --disable updates

4. Configure the failing repository to be skipped, if it is unavailable.
Note that yum will try to contact the repo. when it runs most commands,
so will have to try and fail each time (and thus. yum will be be much
slower). If it is a very temporary problem though, this is often a nice
compromise:

yum-config-manager --save --setopt=updates.skip_if_unavailable=true
