Arch Linux 2012 Does Not Boot From Flash Media

I have setup a dual boot system with Fedora 21 and Arch Linux. The problem is that Fedora doesn't see my encrypted Arch installation. The installations are on separate partitions and do not share anything apart from hard disk space. I have run the following commands as root in Fedora:

When I rebooted, Fedora was the only OS entry showing in the GRUB menu.

There was a suggestion from one of the members of the Arch forums that I should write the entry myself into /etc/grub.d/40_custom and then re-build the grub configuration or take the Arch entry from Arch's /boot/grub/grub.cfg and just paste it into the 40_custom in Fedora and rebuild.

How do I boot from a live Arch USB stick into the installed Arch and do as stated above? How would it work? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Alright, I followed this tutorial http://blog.qnology.com/2014/07/hack...nd-mobile.html To install linux on my Pogoplug v4 but when I restarted it just blinked green forever and nothing happened. I figured the OS did not install onto the flash drive and I was correct. I followed these instructions http://archlinuxarm.org/support/reinstallation and formatted the drive, got the correct Debian linux distro and put it on there, then put the drive back into the Pogoplug.

Success! Green light turned steady and the flash drive light flashed. After a few seconds it settled down but occasionally will access the flash drive (indicated by blinking USB light). Only problem is I cannot SSH into the pogoplug anymore. It has an IP address from the router. The router says its attached. But, when I use Putty to SSH into that address I get “Connection refused”

I'm new to this forum and linux too.
I thought of installing a lightweight distro of linux and did some research on the net where I found people recommending Puppy Linux. Plus it is (theoretically speaking) possible to run it from a USB (flash) drive which I decided to try out but it seems like it's not that simple a task as a lot of people (all over the internet) say it is.

What I tried so far is this: installing it into a thumb drive using unetbootin follwing a youtube tutorial (which basically showed how to download an iso of puppy, use unetbootin to make the thumbdrive bootable and install puppy on it). It didn't work. The USB wasn't recognized as a bootable device. I know for sure it can be booted from it since I tried ubuntu from the same USB and the same Laptop (which is able to boot from USB).

I thought that something with the Flash Drive not OK so I tried to use a windows installer to install puppy like other windows programms but this didn't work either. This time Puppy was recognized because there was an option to boot either Puppy or Windows 7 but when I chose to boot from Puppy nothing happens just a screen flash, some letters in the top left corner saying something like NTSC or NTSF (I can't read it properly because it goes away too fast) then after the screen flash the whole thing again (boot from win 7 or Puppy I choose Puppy again the flash... basically a loop).

Any ideas what I'm doing wron or what the problem is?

I have visited this forum a lot in the last years to learn information about Linux, so above all thank you very much to the linuxquestions.org community for building this valuable resource!

Now my question:

I have a brand new Nvidia GTX750 graphics card. Nouveau does not work correctly with this card (very low resolution and red dots all around the screen appear), so I need to install propietary drivers.

I have coped with this when installing distros in my hard drive, I just install the propietary drivers following the reccomended user guidelines and that's all, but I'm now starting to work with Tails (amnesic Linux distribution) and 'unfortunately' as it's an amnesic system I'll have to install them everytime I boot.

I was wondering if there's a way to install them permanently on my Live CD/USB so I am ready to work as soon as I boot. I have not really any clue on how a LiveUSB is composed, and as far as I have searched on the Internet I have not found any information about this matter.

TL;DR: How can I permanently install Nvidia propietary drivers on an amnesic Linux Live CD/USB?

Hello, I have a laptop with no operating system and I want to put the Arch OS on it. How do I go about doing that? Do I just burn the ISO on a CD and stick it in while I boot up?

Hello all,

I was screwin' around with Arch Linux. I'm interested in it but not more interested than my Kubuntu running KDStudio.

I didn't realize how much prep. their is and the fact that Arch does no prep. Anyway, I stopped trying to get it to run when I realized I had to pre-partition and set up a swap.

Now however grub does not boot into the KDE desktop. It boots into Kubuntu but with no desktop.

Does anyone know how to fix this, I would not like to have to re-install the whole system. I think there must be a fix, I'm not sure exactly what Arch did, gparted doesn't show anything.

I'm new to Linux , I installed Kali linux on my pc and the wifi card isn't working ..

It is a usb wifi card , It has a cd for its driver. There is a folder in the cd called " Linux Driver " and here's what is inside it

I have a computer that I made myself a few years ago. The internal DVD drive does not work anymore. What are my options to install a linux distro on it. I am not able to boot from an external USB DVD drive that I have, on this machine. My understanding is that you need a CD to install Plop to inorder for it to work so that I can boot from an external USB stick?

What are my options without having to buy another DVD drive? I know I can install my .iso file to a USB stick using Unetbootin, but than what? How do I get it to boot on this machine?

I clean installed Antergos 64bit (GNOME 3) on my iMac, and now need to boot the OS X DVD that came with the computer to format and restore. The ultimate goal is to keep this machine for dual-booting (which I can take care of) since there are simply things I need from both operating systems. If only Antergos or GRUB would boot from the DVD to kick-off the process.


What have you done so far?

It made sense to install rEFInd on this machine, since that was the program that helped OS X boot the Antergos image from my USB drive in the first place.

I followed the steps laid out in the Arch Wiki. First, by using the refind-install command Then used the refind-install --usedefault /dev/sda1 command to "also install rEFInd to the default/fallback boot path".
I shutdown, and booted the Mac up in hopes to catch rEFInd's splash screen, but to no avail. Only the Antergos/GRUB screen, and then into Antergos as usual.
(This began a hopeless cycle of re-installing, and rebooting which lasted quite some time.)

Afterwards, I tried manually installing rEFInd using the following commands from the Arch Wiki:

efibootmgr -c -d /dev/sda -p 1 -l /EFI/refind/refind_x64.efi -L "rEFInd Boot Manager"
Also, I installed the mactel-boot utility from the AUR.

After shutdown/power-on, the machine displayed alot of white-colored "clearing node" text, before tragically booting once again into Antergos/GRUB.

I've also read How-to Geek's guide on re-installing OS X on Mac, yet the tutorial never mentions how to restore it from Linux.


Conclusion:

What piece of this puzzle am I missing? Would creating a LiveUSB of OS X be an easier route than this DVD? Is there a GRUB command I'm not aware of that can change the boot order?

I'm almost certain rEFInd is not the only way Linux would be able to boot this OS X DVD, it's just the only way I've known how so far.

I can clearly see the Mac OS X boot option in efibootmgr as Boot0080*, so at least it's being recognized. When Antergos boots to the desktop, the OS X DVD is displayed as "WindowsSupport" if that helps.
I'm out of my element and am at an impasse, your help will be appreciated.

Hello people, im not really new with linux per say, but its the first time that i have this problem, i makes me feel like a newbie!!

well, this is the problem, i've just install linux 17.1 rebecca on my new computer. the installation goes well as usual, but when i log in, appears a new message "running in software rendering mode" and it doesn't recognize my video card, nor i can connect to internet to get the drivers. So i dont know that to do. i would really appreciate your help. Thanks.
