Where is the How-To information located? On this web site? With my Linux distribution? Other? Apologies in advance from a newbie.
hello there,
i am in the process of creating a custom linux distribution out of Ubuntu 12.04. i have recompiled the kernel with a few custom tweaks, added a light desktop enironment and uninstalled certain unwanted programs. now i want to create my own distribution CD of this operating system for my small office .
I have alraedy tried REMASTERSYS, which has been discontinued, hence. i have created a backup (ISO)from RELINUX which is not getting deployed on a VM or not helpful in creating a installable CD.
i need help in creating a installable CD of the OPERATING SYSTEM from my PC so that i can use it as a CUSTOM DISTRO.
I'm a newbie please dont mind my language and inadequacy of information if any
Regards
Hi everybody!
I have visited this forum a lot in the last years to learn information about Linux, so above all thank you very much to the linuxquestions.org community for building this valuable resource!
Now my question:
I have a brand new Nvidia GTX750 graphics card. Nouveau does not work correctly with this card (very low resolution and red dots all around the screen appear), so I need to install propietary drivers.
I have coped with this when installing distros in my hard drive, I just install the propietary drivers following the reccomended user guidelines and that's all, but I'm now starting to work with Tails (amnesic Linux distribution) and 'unfortunately' as it's an amnesic system I'll have to install them everytime I boot.
I was wondering if there's a way to install them permanently on my Live CD/USB so I am ready to work as soon as I boot. I have not really any clue on how a LiveUSB is composed, and as far as I have searched on the Internet I have not found any information about this matter.
Sorry for the bad grammatics, I have a pretty bad level of English
TL;DR: How can I permanently install Nvidia propietary drivers on an amnesic Linux Live CD/USB?

Hey
First of all I don't know what I'm doing with Linux. At all. Please help. And please speak very clearly and slowly.
I got this computer second hand and I don't know what version of Linux that is on it. I tried to find out, I was just told Meego. Meego is not an option on Skypes homepage for downloading Skype.
I don't really understand the different versions. I especially don't understand how to install programs and downoad updates. I want to download Skype and a more recent version of Firefox or another browser, but I dont know how.
Information online talks about, and tells me to open my Package Manager. I don't know what this is, and I can't find one on my computer. The closest thing I have is called 'Live Update' but I open that and there is nothing in it.
Please can someone take me through how all this is supposed to work please?!
Thanks
AOA

I’ve been fascinated by the Raspberry Pi since it was announced but have never gotten one. I think I am about to take a bite and I want to pair it with the LCD panel from an old laptop (LCD controller comes off of ebay) to create an information panel for my living room.
So far, I’d like it to display the current weather (Condition and temperature), network load, and automatically show a webcam feed from the front porch if it detects motion.
I’m new to Linux so I am not sure how to do all of this but that is for another thread. My question is: What would you do with a passive LCD panel in your living space?
Hi, does anyone know if gang scheduling is implemented in Linux? And if so, can you recommend any books/articles/site where I can learn more about it? I am trying to implement it on FreeBSD, so if anyone has any information about that, it would be very helpful
Thank you!
Hi all,
Apologies if this is off-topic. I searched a while and couldn't find out whether or not the Newbie forum is strictly for technical questions or not.
I am new to Linux and have been using it the past 4 months or so. Currently I work in a support job as an MS technician. I'm mostly using it to advance my career. Management told me if I devote time to learning Linux to the point where I can do very basic maintenance tasks on the company Linux servers, and the ability to support our few Linux clients, I would be promoted to a senior support position.
One of the greater challenges so far is trying to figure out WHAT to focus on and how long to devote to it each day. I find that if I spend multiple hours/day trying to learn Linux (like 2-3 hours), I don't retain much of what I've learned. Conversely, if I don't spend enough time each day, I worry that I will not learn enough to become proficient in a reasonable amount of time. I sometimes start reading up on a Linux topic, for instance, how to send mail to users, and wonder if my time could be better spent learning another aspect. Then again, I feel like a lot of this basic knowledge can be built upon.
I'd like to become proficient enough to achieve this senior position in 1.5-2 years. Given my current job and personal responsibilities I am able to devote 1-2 hours of learning Linux each day.
In that amount of time, I've been learning new bash commands daily and practicing yum, tried setting up a web server, extracting/compiling software, messing around with inittab, cron jobs, etc. very basic things and building upon that.
Does this sound reasonable? I'd very much appreciate some pointers and to see if I am on the right track from a Linux community perspective.
Thanks.

I am new to linux and My distribution is Kubunto. My wireless Icon shows that my connection to my router has been deactivated and will not allow me to connect to internet or give me an option to connect with a password. I cannot find the application in kubunto that walks me through the connection process. Is there such a program and what is its name. Thanks from a newbie
I'm using Linux Mint 16 "petra" and normally I can see in the task bar whether or not there are software updates available or not. For the past week or so, I have not been able to get any connection to the mintUpdate site and the icon in the task bar shows a red X on the shield.
When I right-click on the icon and select "Information" I get the message below.
<<
++ Launching mintUpdate in user mode
++ Testing initial connection
-- No connection found (tried to ping google.com) - sleeping for 30 seconds
++ Starting refresh
++ Auto-refresh timer is going to sleep for 15 minutes, 0 hours and 0 days
-- Error in checkAPT.py, could not refresh the list of packages
>>
Can anybody out there inform me what may be wrong with either my system or with the mintUpdate site? I'm able to connect to the Internet without any problem.
Thanks in advance for your reaction!
