Been Having Problems, Need Help With "important" Log Entries, Fedora 21

If I'm loading down the system, i.e., running transmission while playing a video, periodically network throughput drops, video stops, cpu activity jumps up, then after a few seconds to a minute suddenly cpu activity goes back to normal, networking and video resumes. In addition I have this "important" message in the log viewer:

Quote:
systemd-udevd
Error calling EVIOCSKEYCODE on device node '/dev/input/event2' (scan code 0xc0183, key code 226): Invalid argument
There are several lines with varying scan and key codes, the rest being the same.

In addition, a couple weeks ago, I had locked myself out of the system, (boot to black screen), due to a failed attempt at installing the latest AMD/ATI proprietary drivers. Thanks to the help of several people on the forum, I was able to get back in, using the native drivers.

Obviously as a newbie to Linux I don't know if any of these things are related.

I would appreciate any help anyone could give me, TIA!!

Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited Not Working No Matter What I Do

I've recently bought The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, and I can't get it to work with wine no matter what I do. I've followed this tutorial, which just gives me a white screen when I run the installation exe, I've run the script from POL, which gives me the same white screen when I run the exe, and I've tried running it with just wine, giving me the same result. I've tried using opengl in the "display" tab on play on linux, which does't do anything. I've tried installing some components such as vcrun, doesn't help. I've reinstalled play on linux and wine, didn't do anything. And I've tried installing steam and then installing the elder scrolls online from steam and it doesn't do anything.

"playonlinux.log" from installation script: http://paste.ubuntu.com/11549385/

"playonlinux.log" from this video: http://paste.ubuntu.com/11549531/

When I start up the installation exe it will bring up a window that looks like this (sometimes the text doesn't show up) or bring up a crash dialog that looks like this. Then When I press "go" or the blank button depending on whether or not the text decides to show up, it will bring up a fullscreen white window and then it will shrink down and freeze, not doing anything or showing anything. Sometimes it will bring up a window like this when I press "go", frozen, saying "play on linux is installing your application."

I'm using the latest version of Manjaro, just updated. And I'm using the "video-catalyst" proprietary drivers. Note that I did get it working with my laptop by just running "wine Install_ESO.exe" and it worked fine. The only difference is the hardware and the drivers, both are running manjaro. Does it only work with open-source drivers?

If any of you have any help, I'd appreciate it. If there is any log files you need I can provide them.

Yum Update Caused Problems

Hello
I installed fedora 18 on an older apple computer (i.e. replaced the operating system with eight cores). To make a long story short, I did a "yum update" which took hours to complete, but when I attempted to restart my system, I now get the Grub boot loader coming up and showing that the fedroa3-11.10-100fc18x86_64 OS is staring up, but then suddenly the screen goes black and I get a weird message:

" radeon 0000:02:0:Invalid Rom content
system[1]:Job multipathd.service/start deleted to bread in g cycle starting with basic./start"

So, I then place on a USB containing the original fedora 18 I installed earlier, but now, I cannot, using the Grub Menu, to locate the usb or the cd option.

I have tried looking at sites on line for help, but so far nothing has worked...

Can someone help me...I am a Newbie.
Thanks

Drivers Issues

Hello people, im not really new with linux per say, but its the first time that i have this problem, i makes me feel like a newbie!!

well, this is the problem, i've just install linux 17.1 rebecca on my new computer. the installation goes well as usual, but when i log in, appears a new message "running in software rendering mode" and it doesn't recognize my video card, nor i can connect to internet to get the drivers. So i dont know that to do. i would really appreciate your help. Thanks.

Can No Longer Mount Data Dvds

For whatever reason, when I try to mount a data DVD I get the following message:

Unable to mount [disk name]
Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
mount: mount point /media/cdrom does not exist

Yet, if I put a DVD video in I can play on any of my video apps, yet I also can't mount those in a file browser. I have no idea what has caused this. I haven't backed up data to disks in a long time, I only did so today because I'm running low on space in one of my drives.

I was told elsewhere that I needed to alter a file: /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-cd.rules

But I have no idea how to do this, and what I found there does not look like what was shown. This is what my file looks like:

Code:
# This file maintains persistent names for CD/DVD reader and writer devices.
# See udev(7) for syntax.
#
# Entries are automatically added by the 75-cd-aliases-generator.rules
# file; however you are also free to add your own entries provided you
# add the ENV{GENERATED}=1 flag to your own rules as well.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What Is The Cause Of Nouveau Freezing At Boot LiveMedium And What Is The Best Fix?

Hello.

I am a newcomer to Linux, coming from Windows, desktop PC user. I already have a few months' experience with Ubuntu and Mint. I can handle some basic terminal commands, but I prefer the GUI whenever possible.

I'm not an IT specialist, far from it. Just a normal average computer user who can read a few things if they are understandable enough, and wants a decent operating system. So please speak to me in simple human terms, I can handle high tech jargon only so much. Thanks.

I have 2 main questions:

1. I've encountered problems when booting from LiveCD (written to USB) with both Mint and Lubuntu. The boot menu appeared but when I pressed any of the “try live” or “install” options, the screen froze with garbled checkerd pixels. Web searching for solutions, I found the thing with accessing special boot options and adding kernel parameters like 'nomodeset' and 'noaccel' and doing that I could proceed with installation. Then, after installing proprietary drivers, everything was fine.

This is not the first time this happened. As far as I understand this is related to the nouveau driver.

Does this happen only with some distros, like, for example, Ubuntu and its derivatives, or is it a larger problem from the main Linux kernel? From what I've read on some forums, such problems happened with other graphic cards as well, and it seems to be an old problem as old as 2011 if not older.

Why nothing could have been done to fix these issues so far? Couldn't all distros use some option from boot menu to either go with simple safe vesa graphics mode or a text based helpful install that might guide the user afterwards in downloading the proprietary drivers if s/he desires?...

And what is the main cause of the problem? Nvidia not doing FOSS drivers? Nouveau not being flexible enough? Linux kernel not keeping up? Particular distros that don't care about adding an extra boot option? A combination of all these? What is to be done? Would switching to other distro help in this regard? how would I know which distros use nouveau and which don't?

2. I'd like to look into other distros as well. What I need is stability, meaning as bug free as possible, as few apps hanging or crashing as possible, while still being user friendly. But no rolling realeases, please. I want to update the system without fear that I won't boot into desktop – again!

I need distros that come with multimedia codecs, Flash and stuff out of the box and also an easy option to install the proprietary video card graphics driver. I am all for FOSS, but for now I'm also being realistic, and unfortunately have to go with proprietary drivers.

What recommendations do you have?

Thank you.

Error Message On Boot Up In Fedora 21

Hi Folks,
I am a relative newbie to linux.
I am running Fedora 21 from an external USB Hard Drive and get the following message after Grub has loaded. Any help in resolving this is very much appreciated.

Recovering After Windows 7 Install: Rescue Cannot Mount Root

I have a dual boot laptop with debian stable & Windows 7.

The HD partitions a
sda1: NTFS for W7
sda2: FAT32 (currently unused)
sda3: linux /boot
sda4: linux ext4, which is LVM with encryption

I've re-installed W7 and now need to recover the MBR & grub menu.

I've booted with the netinst usb in rescue mode, but it fails to mount the root partition /sda4:
"An error occured while mounting the device you entered for your root file system (/dev/sda4) on /target"

and /var/syslog shows:
Code:
rescue-mode: selected root device '/dev/sda4'
umount: cant umount /target: Invalid argument
isofs_fill_super: bread failed, dev=sda4, iso_blknum=16, block=32
EXT2-fs (sda4): error: unable to readsuperblock
EXT3-fs (sda4): error: unable to readsuperblock
rescue: mount: mounting /dev/sda4 on /target failed: Invalid argument

So it seems like something is wrong with the mount command?

Would appreciate suggestions how to solve this.

Thanks

How To Patch GPSR Routing Protocol To Ns-2.35

Hi,
I have patched GPSR to ns-2.35 using keliu' code. It works fine with given tcl file. I need to move nodes according to mine own mobility scenario and compare them to AODV protocol.
I have two problems
1. I don't understand what this command in gpsr.tcl file means Code:
proc gpsr-create-mobile-node { id args } {
         .........................
if [info exists opt(energy)] {
	$node addenergymodel [new $opt(energy) $node 10 0.5 0.2]}
         .............

What are these figures (0.5, 0.2), are these energy consumed in reception and transmission or some thing else.

Secondly I want move mobile node created using proc defined in gpsr.tcl file according to my own mobility plan e.g. Code:
 $ns_ at 0.000000000000 "$node_(0) setdest 144.816950690450 20.073824649527 0.324133202939"
$ns_ at 0.000000000000 "$node_(1) setdest 93.957720171475 192.140808646867 1.452613500562"
$ns_ at 12.158688172971 "$node_(23) setdest 113.137798368154 39.443538618334 0.902003496971"

But when I run simulation it gives error like this:[QUOTE]Load complete...
