Script Persistently Lowering Mplayer Volume

I have a similar script as follows

Code:
(sleep 5m; echo "set_property volume 85 > "fifo_file")&

mplayer -volume 95 -quiet -slave -input file="fifo_file" song1 song2 song3

This makes the current song change volume to 85 after the 5 minute sleep period, but any songs after that revert to 95.

I want to keep it at volume 85 until the mplayer command completes but start at 95 until changed.

Is this possible?

Creating A Large Tar Ile Form A Sequence Of Small Tar Files And One Files Is Missing

I am trying to put back together a big atr file from some smaller tar files that I created several years ago. The issue is that in order to tar this large file, I must put each file back using the command

tar -xMf cd-1.tar
Prepare volume #2 for 'cd-1.tar' and hit return:n cd-2.tar
Prepare volume #3 for 'cd-2.tar' and hit return:n cd-3.tar
and so forth.

I have fourteen files cd-1.tar through cd-15.tar. The cd-9.tar files is missing and I assume that it is gone. Now when I type the commands in I get the following:

Code:
-linux tarfile]$ tar -xMf cd-1.tar
Prepare volume #2 for `cd-1.tar' and hit return: n cd-2.tar
Prepare volume #3 for `cd-2.tar' and hit return: n cd-3.tar
Prepare volume #4 for `cd-3.tar' and hit return: n cd-4.tar
Prepare volume #5 for `cd-4.tar' and hit return: n cd-5.tar
Prepare volume #6 for `cd-5.tar' and hit return: n cd-6.tar
Prepare volume #7 for `cd-6.tar' and hit return: n cd-7.tar
Prepare volume #8 for `cd-7.tar' and hit return: n cd-8.tar
Prepare volume #9 for `cd-8.tar' and hit return: n cd-10.tar
tar: This volume is out of sequence (10755138772 - 4889670868 != 6598651392)
Prepare volume #9 for `cd-10.tar' and hit return: n cd-10.tar
tar: This volume is out of sequence (10755138772 - 4889670868 != 6598651392)
Prepare volume #9 for `cd-10.tar' and hit return:
tar: This volume is out of sequence (10755138772 - 4889670868 != 6598651392)

As you can see I do not have cd-9.tar. That stops the untarring cold. However, I have cd-10.tar,cd-11.tar,cd-12.tar,cd-13.tar,cd-14.tar,cd-15.tar. Now I may have these files, but they cannot be put back in the main file because cd-9.tar is missing and everything must be put in sequentially.

Is there a way to complete this sequence of steps and add all fourteen files to the files bigbackup leaving out cd-9.tar? That means that the bigbackup file will be incomplete, but that is better than no file or having bigbackup missing six files on the back end.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

What Is A Good Linux Script For Changing An IP Address Statically In Ubuntu?

I have a shell script that currently changes the mac address of eth0 repeatedly. However, it does not change the public IP address, confirmed by wget -qO- ipinfo.io/ip .

PERIOD=10

while [ 1 ]
do
echo "Changing mac address..."
let lastup=`date +%s`
macchanger -A eth0
let diff=`date +%s`-$lastup
if [ "$diff" -lt "$PERIOD" ]
then
sleep $(($PERIOD-$diff))
echo "Changed mac address successfully."
echo
elif [ "$diff" -gt "$PERIOD" ]
then
echo "Command took longer than iteration period of $PERIOD seconds!"
fi
done

The script needs to change the IP Address statically.

Also, ultimately, what I am trying to accomplish, for security reasons, is to frequently and automatically change a computer's public IP address and mac address. This way, my office's computers, when using the Internet, has an additional form of protection.

Back Up Plan For San Migration. Lvmconvert--2 Leg Scenario.

Hello,

So I am going to move lvm from one san to anohter.
Its on CentOS 5.

so "lvm1" from "sanA" to "sanB"
I do

Code:
>lvconvert -m1 --corelog VG/lvm1   /dev/disk_on_sanB
check:
>lvmdisplay  -m
...
..
Logical volume lvm1_mimage_0
......
Logical volume lvm1_mimage_1

then I break the mirror, taking off lvm1 from old sanA
>lvconvert -m0 VG/lvm1  /dev/disk_on_sanA

At this point if some thing goes wrong, is there a way to bring back original lvm1(from sanA) back to the server ?

Thanks

Mplayer Install Gc Error

I've just installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on my virtual machine,(it's a little bit too slow but this is not my main problem), I want to install mplayer on it, I've downoaded mplayer source code with binary codecs (essentials) from the official website, I read carefully the install and readme docs, but once I type "./onfigure --enable-gui"
I got a message like : "gc error, cc could not excute ...." is there any help ?

Cygwin Rsync Script Copying File Incorrectly

I am trying to write a simple test script that executes a single rsync call. Once I get the syntax right, the script will be expanded to incorporate several rsync instructions to save me time.

I'm using a Cygwin Terminal on Windows 7 to run Rsync.

The script is called "backup" and I call it from the cygwin terminal using "./backup". Have used chmod to make it executable.

When I execute the rsync instruction as a standalone instruction at terminal prompt, the file copies to the target folder perfectly.

However, when I try and drop the same instruction into a script, it copies the file over from it's original file name "mvi_1840.mov" to a file with the name "." -- literally a single period. I can rename the file to a .mov file and it works fine but naturally, I don't want to have to do this.

The one other thing I will mention is that the file is located in the /home/"username" directory in cygwin vs /bin. But I would not think that this would make a difference.

I have pasted the contents of the script file below:
Code:
#!/bin/bash
    rsync.exe -rltDvP --exclude "System Volume Information" --exclude
 "RECYCLER" --exclude=\$RECYCLE.BIN --delete "/cygdrive/c/users/<USERNAME>
/desktop/mvi_1840.mov" "/cygdrive/c/users/<USERNAME>/desktop/test/"

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Recurring Startup Application

Hi
Kindly refer to following post:
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/pro...tml#post954718
Here, at post #4, solution given by "LSalab" worked for me. So I added it to startup applications in my cinnamon desktop. But the problem is that, it works only once after every login (when the battery gets lower than 10% so it informs me), and if I charge the battery and again it reaches that threshold point of 10%, the system does not inform me, which means that the startup script only executes once.
here is the script:
Code:
#!/bin/bash
while [[ `acpi | cut -d ' ' -f 4 | grep -Po '\d+'` -gt 10 ]]
do echo -ne "\r`acpi`"
sleep 5
done
notify-send -t 60000 'Low Battery' 'Battery charging of your system is below 10%. Kindly Plug charger. Thanks.'
echo ''
mplayer /usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo/phone-outgoing-busy.oga -loop 0

So my question is that, how can I make this script recurring at every threshold level?

Mplayer Song Length Limit

(Raspberry Pi Model B)
I have a really long audio file I'd like to play.
It's 10 hours long (white noise)

However, when playing it with mplayer it only gets to 4 hours before determining it's now end of file.

Code:
A:14360.8 ( 3:59:20.8) of 36080.8 (10:01:20.7)  7.2

Exiting... (End of file)

I know the audio file isn't corrupted past this point since I can fast-forward to 3:59:00:0 and let it play and it works fine (at least for the 2m I let it play)

I could in theory break up the file into 3.5 chunks to stay below the limit but I'm wondering if this is a inherent limitation of mplayer (didn't expect 4hr+) or if it's a bug.
