imac 5,1 core 2 duo
i have only been able to install ubuntu 11.4 which means that my wireless network doesnt work, it says device not ready, firmware missing.
how do i install ubuntu latest version using the terminal because the apple bios???? wont allow me to mount the iso file. what script do i need to get it installed via the terminal ?
ive managed 11.4 but its not support4d anymore. imac core duo has notorius problems with linux
I've just installed Arch, and Installed and configured openbox and gnome terminal. Openbox starts, firefox works, but when I try to start gnome terminal, I curser spins for a moment and then it doesnt load.
I've tried to find a resolution to this but I'm not seeing much relevant to this specific scenerio. Also, this is my first time ever installing Arch, or any distro without a graphic installer or a kickstart script. My experience is pretty basic. I've used ubuntu/mint/centos for quite a while but figured this will be a good way to get me learning.
After I post this I am going to reboot to get back to command line and look at the installation and maybe install another terminal and see if this makes much a difference.
i have an imac 5.1 and it simply will not install linux. mac software is 10.4.11
does anyone have any info on why these computers wont accept the install. i installed refit on the mac and it still wont do it. any info would be great , thank you
I am reading a gnuplot pdf FAQ. In section 3.13 it says: "This requires you to write contours into a temporary file using the table terminal." Then I google and all I get is terminal-table. It says: install terminal-table by applying this command:
Quote:
$ sudo gem install terminal-table
What is it all about? What is a table terminal? What is a terminal-table? It looks like terminal table is to print tables in a terminal, right?
Thanks, - A.
Hi there. I'm new to Linux. My son installed it. First, I was pleased. Then I was angry: we have three printers in the house. It was incompatible with them all (when I connected the printer, it did not automatically install it. Now I'm frustrated. I have been to sites to find out what version of Linux I have. I am not a techie. I worked out how to get into the black terminal screen. I worked out how to write the command uname -a and got the answer Ubuntu 109. I don't know what this means but I then worked out how to put a command in $ sudo apt-get install cnijfilter-ip4500series to install the printer. It asked me for my password. I entered the password I use to open the user interface when I turn on the laptop. No dice. I need to distribute posters this pm. I will have to spend more money, going into town to get them from there. Not great. Any help appreciated. Advice, guidance, kind words of encouragement....
I rescently installed Ubuntu 14.10 (AMD64) on my ASUS X53U (CPU: Brazos Dual Core E350 1.6 GHz GPU: HD 6310M, 3GB RAM) I downloaded Steam from the website, installed it, got some errors and managed to ruin everything (low res, really slughish) by just pasting commands into the terminal that seemed to make sense while I actaully had no idea what I was doing.
So I "threw everything out the window" and installed the OS fresh again.
Everything is fresh. All I have done is run the software updater and installed Grub Customizer so I can access Windows 7. (don't even have Steam installed)
So what are the exact steps on setting up all the OpenGL stuff and getting TF2 to run? (simply things to paste in the terminal would be best)
The most helpful person gets a game of their choice on Steam for under 10 euros.
I know that it should be possible to find everything myself but I just don't have the time or intelligence for that. That's why I would rather just have someone else spend time helping me and buy them a game for their efforts.

but it says that it cannot locate package. what am I doing wrong.
I am running Ubuntu 14. in virtual box on a early 2008 imac. I have a shared folder on my imac and have the Ubuntu Public folder shared.
The problem is Ubuntu can not see the imac folder and the imac can not see the Ububtu\Public folder.
I am working on LAR protocol, ns2 version = 2.32
OS = ubuntu 12.04
i successfully installed LAR NS on my system . but nam does not qork with ns-2.32 . so i tried to install with the following command
sudo make install nam ===> it successfully installed namv1.15 . but when i run box.tcl it is giving me the following error
SORTING LISTS ...DONE!
channel.cc:sendUp - Calc highestAntennaZ_ and distCST_
highestAntennaZ_ = 1.5, distCST_ = 220.0
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
then i tried to remove the nam with this command sudo apt-get remove nam ==> removed
then i installed this nam from (nam_1.14_amd64.deb) . when i write nam it shows me network animator window v1.14 but segmentataion fault error remains the same .
I also tried to install nam-1.14.i586.tar.gz , first untar it and then the following command sudo cp nam /usr/local/bin but still the error .
i also tried with nam-1.14-x86_64.tar.gz but still no success.
if i dont use nam , then my box file runs successfully.
plz suggest me how to rectify this error.
Hi,
I am very new to linux, and frankly I do not know a whole lot about computers in general, as I'm entirely self taught, and that was all on windows. I really like the idea and concept of linux and ubuntu, and am in the process of learning. I have recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 LTS on an ex Vista computer at work (upon the urging by the boss). I can give more information on the system if needed. However, I think the problem may not be with the system. This is what I got. I installed the o/s and started downloading the updates from the list. As I tried to install Samba and Wine, all of a sudden things started to become complicated. As I'm doing this at work, and everyone is excited to 'play' with this new o/s, someone tried to download limewire as well, when I was away. I didn't see the error messages at that point, but they apparently had some message about java, and tried to shut everything down. Now when I came back, I get this message:
E: dpkg was interrupted you must manually run 'dpkg -- configure - a' to correct.
Problem E: _cache->open()failed
So, not knowing much about linux and even less about using the terminal, I did open the terminal, and typed in: dpkg--configure-a and hit enter. Then it tells me that that command is not found.
I have followed some other posts that deal with this problem, however, all the remedies that worked for them did not work for me. I could use some help, please. My other option is to just reinstall the o/s all over and start new. Thank you.
