Not Enough Memory Msg When Install'g Mint Or Deepin

Hi Y'all,
Greetings from Snowy NC.

First post with first Linux issue.
Attempting to load Linux .iso distros (both dnlds and commercial (from mags & bought sampler cd pkg online) to see which one I want to go with.
My ACER M3011 desktop athlon 64 x2 w/2GB Mem, dsk =320GB had Vista but I can't restore any longer so I'll go Linux.
After much online research dnlded & installed Zorin Lite w/o issues. However, when attempting to boot 32bit or 64 bit versions of MINT 17.1 or DEEPIN 14.2, recvd NOT ENOUGH MEMORY FOR IMAGE msg. Installed 4 more GB ( the BIOS sees it; total 6). Same NOT ENOUGH MEMORY msg. I have searched all the threads for similar issues w/o finding any. I would appreciate suggestions on where to start.
Thank you, Robert Hall

UPDATE;; After finding suggestions on other forums have tried the trick of adding the mem=1024m, and mem=1G, and mem=4G
during the boot process. Get a whole bunch further into the kernal boot now, but always hangs at the "[7.360454] random:
nonblocking pool is initialized" line.
TIA

Trouble Installing To Presario F730US

I'm having trouble getting OS installs to work on this low-end laptop. I've tried Linux Mint, OpenSuse, Manjaro, Zorin OS Core 9 (32bit, 64bit and lite versions). My problem is that once installed, the graphics aren't rendered correctly or (with Zorin) the system would freeze right after logging in. Manjaro did install and work, but the screen was so dark it was unusable, even after adjusting the brightness levels. With Linux Mint, the compatibility mode worked perfectly using the live cd, but the graphics were too distorted once installed. OpenSuse also had distorted graphics. I just want to put the laptop to use until it dies on my.

I've tested the hard drive with the on board diagnostics and I've checked the memory. Neither of those tests gave any errors.

The specs a

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core TK-55
2 gigs of DDR2 memory
Nvidia GeForce Go 6100 graphics card.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm not an expert, so be gentle with the help and recommendations.

Flashing Screen On Dual-boot Config.

Hi Guys, I installed a dual boot config. on a 160 gb hdd. The first choice in grub menu is Linux Lite (latest distro) and the second boot choice is Mint 17.1 Rebecca. I'm encountering a situation that when I boot into LL the system boots OK. Then when I try a restart and boot into Mint it seems to be doing OK until the end of the boot process at which time the screen flashes the Mint logo and then goes dark-then flashes then goes dark every second or so-endlessly. After a while I'm sometimes able to get Mint to finish booting by hitting the esc key. Any ideas how to make this screen flashing situation stop and do a normal boot?

Update: Solved the problem by changing the resolution settings to coincide with those of LL....flashing stopped!

LL and Mint IMHO are two of the best distros for a Newbie to "get their feet wet." - I know, I am that Newbie.

Need Help Uninstalling Mint 17.1 To Do A Clean Installation Dual Boot With Win 8.1

Hello All. This is my first post here. I am worse than a newbie; I'm a PC dinosaur! Not joking either.
Recently got a Dell Inspiron 3048 with Windows 8.1 pre installed. As I am a die hard XP user (my other PC is a Dell Dimension 2400), and seeing that PC's days may be numbered, I want to start using Linux, and decided Mint 17.1 would be first on the list.
Ordered a Linux Mint 17.1 boot disk and went to install it. At the option for a dual boot with Windows, I got lost, and did not understand the "other" choice versus making Linux the only OS on the PC. I wound up wiping my HDD and lost contact with Windows 8.1. Fortunately, the Dell Tech I got at Dell Support was able to walk me through getting Windows back up, but the only way I can now access Mint 17.1 is with the boot disk, but there is no set up options as it is already set up, even though incorrectly for a dual boot.
How do I wipe out Linux without losing Windows 8.1 as well so I can re install Linux and this time make the correct selection for a dual boot?
Anyone willing to respond please do so small and slow so I can follow.
TIA.
BTW, I have tried installing Zorin OS 9 Ultimate on my XP machine via DVD and USB, but I can't get past the f1/f2 loop, even though I have reconfigured my boot sequence according to the drive I'm installing from. Zorin support has been MIA on this. Anyone having a similar problem?
Cheers

Unable To Boot To Linux Deepin

Friends,

I'm completely a Linux newbie, so explain as much as possible.

I installed Linux Deepin on dual boot(practically, triple-boot).
When I select the Linux Deepin option in bootloader, I mostly get a blank screen for a long time.
After practically 2 mins, it presents with some lines of text which I, being a newbie to Linux can't comprehend and hence, cannot counter the error.
The lines go:
"
udevadm settle - timeout of 30 seconds reached, the event queue contains:
/sys/devices/pci0000:00:1d.7/usb1(1080)
/sys/devices/pci0000:00:1d.7/usb1.1-0:1-0(1081)
up waiting for root device. Common reasons for this problem:
root args(cat /proc/cmdline)
Check rootdelay = ...[There's something here I cannot recollect at the moment]
Missing modules(cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)

ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/b4b672ea-c6e5-47fe-a174-165ffde63c8 doesn't exist!
Dropped to shell!
"

Then it goes to a Ubuntu shell or something of that sort.

Surprisingly, every-time I boot into Windows and then restart my desktop and then boot to Deepin, it successfully boots in.
I have Deepin installed on external hard disk which is not very fast(just mentioned this if it is of any use.) Also, my Windows is extremely slow in booting up, it takes almost 10 mins, which is why I switched to Deepin, which boots up almost in 2 mins if it does.

Any help would be extremely appreciated.

Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon Not Detecting Windows 7 During Boot Up

Hello everyone,
Recently, I installed Linux Mint 17 (Cinnamon) on my HP dv6 Laptop. During installation Linux was not detecting my original Windows 7 and was attempting to occupy the entire hard disk. So I used the "Something Else" option to manually create separate partitions for Linux (Previously I had allocated around 120 GB free space for Linux using Windows Disk Management). This installed the Linux but after booting it does not detect Windows 7 and directly boots to Mint. I have tried installing and updating the grub but it did not help either.
Please Help...

Toshiba A205-S4577 Will Not Boot.

I have a Toshiba laptop that will not boot. I get to the grub menu which gives me the option to load Ubuntu, Ubuntu recovery mode, or a couple of memory tests.

If I select Ubuntu I get a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner.

Selecting recovery mode gives me a lot of messages with the last one being "EDD information not available".

The memory test option does not return any errors.

If I try booting Mint from a bootable DVD I get the Mint screen and then it goes gray with a flashing cursor in the top left corner.

Any suggestions?

Linux Mint 16 Will Not Finish Booting From My Usb

I am trying to boot Linux Mint from an 8gb Sandisk USB. I changed my boot settings and it boots into what I believe is called grub? I am given two options, Boot Linux Mint, Boot Linux Mint (compatibility mode). When I select either of them all I get is a black screen. I've tried many things to get around this, messing with my graphics card settings (within grub), different USB's (another 8gb and a 32gb), I tried Ubuntu and that just doesn't boot at all I go straight back to my UEFI settings. I'm very new to Linux and I don't just want to hop in, I just want to boot from my USB whenever I want to play around with it. Thank You

Note: I'm running windows 8.1 currently on a ASUS N550JV laptop. I've been using the UUI from Pen Drive Linux.

Samsung R40 Laptop Upgrade?

I don't know if anyone can help with this question, but I have an old Samsung R40 Laptop which used to run Windows XP. The specs show that it will not upgrade to Windows 7,8 or any other OS beyond XP. Yesterday I wiped the HDD clean and installed Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon which looks good and runs a little slowly but without problems. The Laptop is in good condition therefore I thought I would upgrade it by adding more memory to speed it up. The Memory installed is 2x512mbs PC2-3200S-333 DDR2 200pin, unfortunately I have not been able to obtain any. I would like to double the memory to 2x1gb (2056mbs). If anyone knows for certain where I can get this memory (or Compatible) in the UK or Europe I would be most grateful.

Thanks,

gael.
