Package Operation Failed

Ubuntu 14.10 runs great on my laptop but I think I have dependency problems because EVERY time I install or remove software I get the following error message. However everything seems to run just fine...

"Package operation failed"
"The installation or removal of a software package failed."

...and details shows a massive list of gobbledygook with a lot of:

"insserv: Starting vpnagentd_init depends on rc.local and therefore on system facility `$all' which can not be true!"

I can post the whole message but I'll wait for feedback first.

Need Help Installing NS 2.26 With RSVP-TE Patch

Hello,

i need to install NS2 version 2.26 with RSVP-TE patch to do some MPLS simulations.

I'm trying on fedora 8 and when compiling i am getting this error

* Build ns-2.26
============================================================
loading cache ./config.cache
...
checking for tcl2c++... ../tclcl-1.0b13
checking for X11 header files
checking for X11 library archive

can't find X library
Ns configuration failed! Exiting ...
Please check http://www.isi.edu/nsnam/ns/ns-problems.html
for common problems and bug fixes.

All X11 packages are installed (libX11-devel libXext-devel libXau-devel libXmu-devel)

Installed CentOS 3.9 (it seems NS2 2.26 installs well on this distro) but when trying to get packages with yum seems the repo is not working anymore.

If any one could help to solve the problem of installation i would greatly appreciate

Possible To Create Symbolic Link On Live USB For Main System?

Hello all,

I was going through LFS yesterday and planned to change the symbolic link from "{bin/sh}{dash}" to "{bin/sh}{bash}". Unfortunately, I disconnected from bin/sh but forgot to create another link. Now the system won't boot and failed to shutdown. Wondering if I can make a symbolic link for it on the Live USB or is there another solution? The Distro is Linux Mint 17.1.

Thanks.

Problems Using Regular Expression With Sed

ok so im using osx 10.6.8 but i have something with linux on it somewhere I can try this on if that is the problem

I am attempting to take certain parts out of a html file I have figured out how to write a regular expression to specify this data I want to delete using the search funciton in the text editor TextWrangler:

(?<=<div id="right_col">)[\s\S]*(?=</body>)

This works in text wrangler but when I try to use it with sed it gives me errors like this one:

sed: 1: "(?<=<div id="right_col" ...": invalid command code (

I know to use -e to avoid problems with the unix version OSX is based on. The sed is a bit different because its based on an older unix variant but i did that and its still giving me an error. I assume there is something basic I am missing about formatting your regular expression for using with commandline and what characters you can use. I bet it has something to do with the backslashes or the round brackets. normally I would just keep searching till I find the answer but I am bored of this problem. I need to think about something else for awhile. maybe in the meantime someone else can chime in and help me out.

Problem With EDCA Patch Of 802.11e For Ns2.35

Hello, I started to use ns2.35 recently with Cygwin Terminal 1.7.35 under a virtual machine Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3. I'm having a problem when trying to apply a EDCA patch of 802.11e.

First i tried the oficial patch (intended for ns2.28), then i found a later version of EDCA:
Ref. post #18 he http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...245/page2.html

I also tried to apply the patch for ns-2.35
Ref. post #70 he http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...928/page5.html

After I made the changes in the files and running the following commands (as said by the 'README.txt' inside the patch)
./configure; make clean; make depend; make

I got the message:
Code:
g++ -c -O2 -Wall -Wno-write-strings  -DTCP_DELAY_BIND_ALL -DNO_TK -DTCLCL_CLASSINSTVAR  -DNDEBUG -DUSE_SHM -DHAVE_LIBTCLCL -DHAVE_TCLCL_H -DHAVE_LIBOTCL1_14 -DHAVE_OTCL_H -DHAVE_LIBTK8_5 -DHAVE_TK_H -DHAVE_LIBTCL8_5 -DHAVE_TCLINT_H -DHAVE_TCL_H  -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -DNS_DIFFUSION -DSMAC_NO_SYNC -DCPP_NAMESPACE=std -DUSE_SINGLE_ADDRESS_SPACE -Drng_test  -I. -I. -I/home/Administrator/ns-allinone-2.35/tclcl-1.20 -I/home/Administrator/ns-allinone-2.35/otcl -I/home/Administrator/ns-allinone-2.35/include -I/home/Administrator/ns-allinone-2.35/include -I/home/Administrator/ns-allinone-2.35/include -I/usr/include/pcap -I./tcp -I./sctp -I./common -I./link -I./queue -I./adc -I./apps -I./mac -I./mobile -I./trace -I./routing -I./tools -I./classifier -I./mcast -I./diffusion3/lib/main -I./diffusion3/lib -I./diffusion3/lib/nr -I./diffusion3/ns -I./diffusion3/filter_core -I./asim/ -I./qs -I./diffserv -I./satellite -I./wpan -I./mac/802_11e -o mac/802_11e/mac-802_11e.o mac/802_11e/mac-802_11e.cc

Makefile:93: recipe for target 'mac/802_11e/mac-802_11e.o' failed
make: *** [mac/802_11e/mac-802_11e.o] Error 1

Also, the ns command (which was working before the patch) now shows me an error:
Code:
bash: ns: command not found

I've searched the ns directory and the ns executable there is no more.

Do you have any ideia how to correct this?

Thank you in advance.

Snmpd Error!

I'm trying to get MRTG set up on Ubuntu 14.04 and cannot get snmpd to install correctly. Every time I try to install I get this error

/usr/sbin/snmpd: error while loading shared libraries: libnetsnmpagent.so.30: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I've tried numerous possible fixes for this and have not found anything that works. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What Is The Rsync Flag To Ignore Permissions

I am using Rsync to backup files to a another machine, the users on my fileserver do not exist on the backup server so Rsync throws errors about the permissions. It copies the files fine but I want to get rid of the errors and have Rsync ignore the permissions when backing up.

/backup is a mounted ftp directory

Below is the current command and output:
Code:

How To Get A Linux That Fits On A CD?

I am having problems with my Sony Vaio windows
it boots up saying (on a black screen, grey text):
==============================================
Windows Boot Manager
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
Status: 0xc0000225
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
Enter=Continue ESC=Exit
==========================================
No matter how many times i tried to restart and even tried F10 repeatedly or Alt-F10 I can't get to any other screen other than the above screen.

So I thought ah to hell with windows on this machine. I'll just install a linux distro because it's for my uncle all he really needs is internet and watch youtube videos/movies.

I have successfully burned and installed Fedora before on other machines using LiveCDs when they had CDs.

This time I tried to burn the DVD since it's it doesn't fit on the CD (I got my ISO from http://download.fedoraproject.org/pu...86_64-21-5.iso)
But when i inserted my DVD and restarted the same black screen appears.

So i have been looking for an older version of Fedora that fits on a CD (I am thinking maybe it'll boot from a CD, not sure though) but can't find any.

Any thoughts or solution to my problem?

Thanks in advance.
