Chromium Displaying Artifacts On Youtube

Hello,

I have recently installed Elementary OS on my HP 550 laptop. While everything is running as expected, I've run into a small problem when attempting to watch videos on Youtube using Chromium.

The video loads fine but displays little yellow rectangles all over the video. According to Youtube, Chromium uses HTML5 rather than Flash - maybe that is the issue - but I am thinking it maybe a graphics driver issue. The videos run absolutely fine on Firefox and will stick to that if necessary, but I would prefer to use Chromium.

I have tried using Code:
gksu jockey-gtk

and it couldnt find any drivers to install.

This Code:
lspci | grep VGA

says:
Code:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GME965/GLE960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)

Many Thanks

New Problem -- Amazon Prime Videos

Hello,
As of 2 days ago, I am having a new problem watching Amazon Prime videos with Flash Player. I'm running Linux Mint 13 on a Dell desktop, with Firefox 37.0.1 and Adobe Flash Player 11. I have a 7mbps internet connection.

The problem is that two days ago, the video quality on my Amazon Prime got stuck at 348 kbps. Prior to that, I was able to watch Prime videos in HD. Now, I can't.

Here are the things I have tried so far:
1. I restarted my computer and modem multiple times.
2. I ran multiple speed tests at speedtest.net to verify that my internet connection is working properly.
3. I went to YouTube and sampled a couple of 1080p videos to make sure I could view video properly on sites other than Amazon. I had no problem streaming the YouTube videos in HD.
4. I tried watching the same Amazon Prime video in Chrome with Pepperflash. This didn't work at all -- after the video finished loading, I got a black screen.
5. I cleared my Firefox and Adobe Flash caches. (For the Adobe Flash cashes, I first tried the Flash Player control panel. When that didn't work, I used the macromedia page he http://www.macromedia.com/support/do...manager06.html
6. I uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Flash multiple times from the software repository.
7. I manually deleted the .adobe, .mozilla, and .macromedia files so they would be rebuilt.
8. I verified that HAL is installed.

Does anyone have other suggestions? I did call Amazon last night, and eventually got a tech support person who is a Linux user himself. He checked the log and verified that I was able to stream videos at HD speeds as recently as 2 days ago. He said that usually the steps I took would fix the problem, so it might be an Amazon issue, but also said that if he tried to report it it would probably get bounced because I am a Linux user and Amazon does not support Linux. I asked him please to try anyway, but thought I would check here in the meantime.

Thanks.

Some Trouble Installing Elementary OS

Hi everyone.
Earlier I posted a reply on a thread about a problem with partitions while installing Elementary OS Freya as dual-boot, and yancek answered giving me a link with a tutorial (thank you!).

However, after I continue with the installation it stopped with an error saying that grub wasn't installed, something like that. But when I start my computer (with USB boot priority), pops a window with the option to 'Try Elementary..." and "Install Elementary..." and if I press Esc a grub console appears. Doesn't that mean grub is installed? What should I do to fix this?

Best regards,
a Linux amateur

Camtasia Studio

Would love to see Camtasia Studio (Techsmith) Ported to Linux. It is a fantastic program for creating videos, editing videos, and creating Website and YouTube videos, and even to create video for Facebook etc.

It's one of the best video editing software I have ever seen, but sadly I cannot find it in Linux.

I guess the place to start is their website.

Elementary OS Luna - Nvidia Problems!

Hey everybody!
I am (quite) new to the world of linux, but have been trying out a few of the most basic distros (ubuntu-based ones).
I am now using elementary os luna, and i have a problem with installing my nvidia drivers.
I have really been googling my ass off to find this on my own, but without any results that actually worked for me.
So, i have a HP Envy laptop, with a geforce gt 740m, and i have searched nvidias homepage to find out that the up-to-date driver for me would be the 346 driver. I tried it on Linux mint xfce, and i successfully installed it. I had to add the xorg ppa repository of course, and updated it as well, but when i do the same procedure here on my elementary os, i cant reach the login screen after my reboot.

When i use the lspci -vnn command in the terminal, i get this info on my graphics driver:

01:00.0 3D controller [0302]: NVIDIA Corporation GK208M [GeForce GT 740M] [10de:1292] (rev a1)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:1961]
Flags: fast devsel, IRQ 16
Memory at d2000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M]
Memory at a0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
Memory at b0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=32M]
I/O ports at 4000 [size=128]
Expansion ROM at b2000000 [disabled] [size=512K]
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel modules: nouveau, nvidiafb

I really hope someone knows how to fix my problem.
Thanks in advance!

Print Quality Problems -- Epson WF-3620/Linux Mint 13

I just got an Epson WF-3620 all-in-one printer last week, to replace an older Epson WF 600 all-in-one. Both of these printers use the same universal Linux driver; it is identified on the Epson website as the ESC/P-R generic driver, version 1.4.4.

With my older Epson WF 600, I had no problems with print quality. With the new printer, copies look great, and test pages are perfect, but when I try to print a document from my hard drive, I get something that looks like a draft-quality printout. Blacks come out pale gray, and anything less than black drops out completely. I've tried changing the media type from plain papers-draft to plain papers-high in Properties/Printer Options, as recommended to another poster with the same problem on forums.openprinting.org, but this didn't work for me.

I tried calling Epson, just on the off chance that I'd get someone familiar with Linux, but wasn't lucky this time. Epson officially doesn't support Linux. I managed after some effort to get them to tell me the procedure for adjusting the print quality in Windows and Mac, just in case I could extrapolate it to Linux, but the menus are completely different.

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 580s desktop. I am running Linux Mint 13.

If no one knows a fix for this, one other thing that would be helpful is any recommendations for other all-in-one printer brands that support Linux. Thanks.

Elementary Luna 'grub-efi Package' Installation Failure

Hi!

I am running into a problem as stated in the title. I currently run Windows 8.1 on a Asus S300CA notebook. Not too long ago I installed and shortly after uninstalled Ubuntu 14.04 by simply deleting the partitions via Windows and recovering the original Windows Boot by running command prompt: "bootrec.exe /fixmbr" ... which consequently seemed to get rid of the grub loader.

Now I like to install Elementary Luna, but while installing the boot loader an error message pops up saying that the 'grub-efi' package fails to install into /target/.

After some research and not being able to find too much on the subject, I created an extra '/boot/grub/efi' partition of 100MB. Thereby selecting 'sda5' to mount/install the boot loader in that particular directory/partition. This has not worked and produced the same error message.

* Quick start disabled in Windows 8.1
* Running 'Try Elementary Lunar', the wifi hardware is detected but no signals are picked up, nor can I seem to connect to my landlord's router using their SSID (Just in case someone suggests doing something in the terminal requiring an internet connection.)

What to do? Your help is much appreciated.

* Edit: I just realized there is an entire forum dedicated to making Linux run on notebooks, laptops and netbooks. Mods, feel free to move this message.
