Location Of Plex "Data" Folder When Installed On Arch

Trying to get my media server up and running again. In order to size my partitions correctly though, I could do with knowing where Plex Stores its "Data Folder" as spoken about in this clip at 7:50.

Any ideas?

I've found this page, but just wanted to confirm that this was the folder talked about in the video.

Any info would be good.

Cheers,

Skat

Rsync, Reliable "copy And Paste" Type Of Backup In Case Things Break?

What I did in windows was create images of my drive and restore them.

in linux I am running

Code:
rsync -aAXv --exclude={"/home/*","/dev/*","/proc/*","/sys/*","/tmp/*","/run/*","/mnt/*","/media/*","/lost+found"} /* /path/to/backup/folder

and this creates a folder for me with all my files, and apparently saves meta data like permissions and paths...

Since I'm using arch and things break sometimes,I'm booted into a CLI with errors and cannot figure my way out since I'm a noob... would I be able to just delete my entire root and replace it with the rsync backup without a problem?

Mounting Separate Partitions That Are Not "normal"

I want my Plex Media Server, Web Server, and Honeypot running on separate partitions. I've formatted them how I want:

SDA7 is my MediaCentre, formatted in XFS, I'd like this mounted as a separate partition and I'd like this to be the location of the Plex Media Server.

SDA8 is my WebServer, formatted in ext4. I'd also like this mounted as a separate partition and be the location of my Web Server (Probs use LAMP and an FTP Download Client).

SDA9 is my Honeypot server, formatted in XFS. Again, I'd like this to be mounted on a separate partition and will be where my Honeypot Server lives.

I'd also like all three servers to be running on VM's to help isolate them.

How do I go about accomplishing this? I'm a Windows native. In Windows I'd have partitioned everything, Created the virtual machines, moved them to their respective partitions, then installed all of the applications.

First things first, how/what do I mount these drives as? Can I just mount them as /mnt/mediaserver and /mnt/webserver etc? Will these mount points then be recognised?

Having Issues Downloading And Installing Plex.

Don't suppose someone can tell me exactly what to write in order to download and install PMS on Arch? I'm about to throw my computer out of the window.

First I tried:

Code:
sudo pacman -S plex-media-server-plexpass

And it cannot find anyting. I've only managed to find Plex Home Theatre using this method.

Next I tried:

Code:
sudo pacman -U https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/0.9.11.17.986-269b82b/plexmediaserver-0.9.11.17.986-269b82b.x86_64.rpm

Which resulted in an error stating:

Code:
error: failed retrieving file 'plexmediaserver-0.9.11.17.986-269b82b.x86_64.rpm.sig' from downloads.plex.tv : the requested URL returned error: 404
warning: failed to download https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/0.9.11.17.986-269b82b/plexmediaserver-0.9.11.17.986-269b82b.x86_64.rpm.sig
loading packages...
error: '/var/cache/pacman/pkg/plexmediaserver-0.9.11.17.986-269b82b.x86_64.rpm' : package missing required signature.

I mean, what am I doing wrong? Can someone please tell me exactly what to type in to download and install PMS?

Cheers

Trouble Mounting Network Drive On Wandboard/Arch

Hi. I've installed Arch Linux on a Wandboard running Logitech Media Server (LMS). LMS needs to read my music files off of a NAS network share. I can't figure out how to mount that network share.

I was told by someone who has a similar NAS to make the following entry in etc/fstab:

//192.168.10.15/media/Music /mnt/netdrive cifs noauto,x-systemd.automount,user=nobody,password="",iocharse t=utf8,noperm,nounix,nobrl 0 0

But when I start LMS and point it to /mnt/netdrive, my media/Music folder isn't shown. Is there a problem with the way I'm trying to mount the network share?

I've tried using "root" and "admin" as username and the admin password of the NAS as password, but still no luck. I've tried mounting the share manually, but I get a "permission denied" error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please Help! I'm Trying To Install A Program Through The Terminal

I'm sorry to ask such a simple question but every time I think I figure something out or think I'm going somewhere get stopped dead in my tracks. My friend installed linux on my computer and then moved away immediately so I have no one to help me!

I downloaded the webcam program Cheese. I found through some tutorials that I have to copy the folder to the /opt/ folder and the only way to do that is through the terminal. I found this tutorial and still can't manage to copy the folder. These are the problems I run into:

1. I don't know where to open the terminal. I've tried opening it from the extracted Cheese folder in my downloads folder and from the /opt/ folder itself. It opens up but:
2. when I type the command sudo cp -r cheese /opt/ it will ask for modernnewspeak's password. When I try to type this in nothing happens, even though it JUST let me type in the command. I pressed "enter" thinking maybe it was hiding my password and I get the message "cannot stat 'cheese'. No such file or directory"

please tell me what I'm doing wrong! I tried to follow that tutorial and look through the FAQ here but I cannot figure this out. Thank you in advance!

How To Run Shell Script In Any Folder Except The Folder Which Contains The Shell Script

I am using a shell script named by test.sh, for example containing
Code:
address="$PWD"
echo "$address"

.
If I put it in folder temp1, and run test.sh, then it will give me the address of the current directory. But if I am now in folder temp2, and I want to run test.sh, I always need to copy test.sh to folder temp2, and then run it. Is there a way that I can run test.sh without copying it? I am not root user.

Can Anybody Explain How Copy.com Works To Me?

I'm running Xubuntu and it was a challenge just getting Copy.com on there. (I installed the desktop app on both of my computers.) Now that I have it though, I don't really know how to use it.

I know this is kind of more a Copy.com question, but I don't know anything about Copy.com (besides having it--lol) and besides, I like you LQ guys.

So yeah, I installed the desktop app for Copy.com on both of my computers. I know that if I put something in the Copy folder that will be available to both computers.

But how Copy does the backing up I don't know.

When I change a file or folder do I have to plop that into the Copy folder every time or does Copy somehow update the file or folder in the Copy folder automatically? (It doesn't seem to.)

Okay, when I, say, take the Documents folder from one computer and plop it into the Copy folder that's that. Then I take the Documents folder from the other computer and plop that into the Copy folder, then all the files from both folders will be in the Copy folder (and the Copy cloud), right?

Now I just removed a couple of files from a folder and copied and pasted the folder into the Copy folder. But then when I looked at the Copy folder the files I'd deleted were still there. What's the process? How does it work?

I mean, how does this work as a way of backing things up AND organizing things? To me it seems like a decent way of throwing stuff into the Copy folder (and cloud), but how is that different than Google Drive? I mean, that's not really a backup, is it? It's like a flash drive in the cloud.

And when I combined the same folders (with the same titles anyway, but they each had different files within them) from the two computers I'd expected each folder on each computer to have all the same files that were cumulatively on both. Instead, they're the same. And the cumulative is only on the Copy folder.

I like the notion of just throwing the folders and files into the Copy folder. It's much quicker than Google Drive. But the backing up feature eludes me and the syncing feature makes me fearful that I'll lose data or that the files will become hopelessly less organized.

Thanks.

Can No Longer Mount Data Dvds

For whatever reason, when I try to mount a data DVD I get the following message:

Unable to mount [disk name]
Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
mount: mount point /media/cdrom does not exist

Yet, if I put a DVD video in I can play on any of my video apps, yet I also can't mount those in a file browser. I have no idea what has caused this. I haven't backed up data to disks in a long time, I only did so today because I'm running low on space in one of my drives.

I was told elsewhere that I needed to alter a file: /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-cd.rules

But I have no idea how to do this, and what I found there does not look like what was shown. This is what my file looks like:

Code:
# This file maintains persistent names for CD/DVD reader and writer devices.
# See udev(7) for syntax.
#
# Entries are automatically added by the 75-cd-aliases-generator.rules
# file; however you are also free to add your own entries provided you
# add the ENV{GENERATED}=1 flag to your own rules as well.
# TSSTcorp_CDDVDW_SH-S223C (pci-0000:00:1f.2-scsi-1:0:1:0)
SUBSYSTEM=="block", ENV{ID_CDROM}=="?*", ENV{ID_PATH}=="pci-0000:00:1f.2-scsi-1:0:1:0", SYMLINK+="cdrom", ENV{GENERATED}="1"
SUBSYSTEM=="block", ENV{ID_CDROM}=="?*", ENV{ID_PATH}=="pci-0000:00:1f.2-scsi-1:0:1:0", SYMLINK+="cdrw", ENV{GENERATED}="1"
SUBSYSTEM=="block", ENV{ID_CDROM}=="?*", ENV{ID_PATH}=="pci-0000:00:1f.2-scsi-1:0:1:0", SYMLINK+="dvd", ENV{GENERATED}="1"
SUBSYSTEM=="block", ENV{ID_CDROM}=="?*", ENV{ID_PATH}=="pci-0000:00:1f.2-scsi-1:0:1:0", SYMLINK+="dvdrw", ENV{GENERATED}="1"

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Linux Mint Share Asks For Password In Windows 7

In Linux Mint, I have right clicked on a folder and selected
"Sharing Options" -> checked the boxes to "Allow others to create and delete files in this folder" and "Guest Access..."

When I access the shared folder on Windows 7 it asks for a password. If I type a password in, it works.

I would like to configure it to not ask for a password, but just open the share.
