What's Wrong With My /etc/apt/sources.list - Jessie.

This is my /etc/apt/sources.list :-

Code:
[$] cat /etc/apt/sources.list [2:23:45]
#### testing #########
deb http://http.debian.net/debian jessie main contrib non-free
deb-src http://http.debian.net/debian jesssie main contrib non-free

deb http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free

# testing-updates, previously known as 'volatile'
#deb http://http.debian.net/debian jessie-updates main contrib non-free
#deb-src http://http.debian.net/debian jessie-updates main contrib non-free

Now I am guessing one or more of the entries above are wrong, as probably all of testing-updates would probably come into play once jessie is released, right ?

This was generated via http://debgen.simplylinux.ch/ for lack of better places to generate sources.list from.

Failed To Bring Up Eth1 - Debian Wheezy

Hi,

I tried to configure my ethernet interface on a Debian Wheezy VM, but I've a problem. When I try to restart /etc/init.d/networking, I've no error message.
But my eth1 interface isn't up and when I try to up it with : ifup eth1, it return me :

Code:
root@debian-main:/# ifup eth1
RTNETLINK answers: File exists
Failed to bring up eth1

My /etc/network/interface file is :

Code:
auto eth0
allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

iface eth1 inet static
        address 192.168.10.1
        netmask 255.255.255.0
        gateway 192.168.10.254

Eth0 is my internet interface and eth1 is a local interface. I want to install a DNS and a DHCP server on eth1 to be able to connect client with this VM and give them an ip adress.

Thanks guys

I tried to do the same in "Jessie"

Unable To Upgrade Squeeze To Wheezy

I try to upgrade the disto currently running in my box:

Description: Debian GNU/Linux 6.0 (squeeze)

My sources.list looks like following:

deb http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main
# wheezy-updates, previously known as 'volatile'
deb http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ wheezy-updates main
deb-src http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ wheezy-updates main

After 2 commands:

Update Grub Command Not Working

I have made a change to GRUB2 bootloader in etc/default/grub.
Now I need to run 'update grub' for the change to take effect.
However, the 'update grub' command on the terminal is giving this error message:
Code:
root@debian:/# update grub
bash: update: command not found

Can someone please explain why this command is no longer working?

I've had to make a change to grub because I tried to install a new distro which meant I had to alter grub.
The install wasn't successful so I deleted the grub file and then re-installed it.
The re-installed grub needs a change so I can get sound on my pc.
However, I can't add these changes because the 'update grub' command doesn't work.

I've checked the grub file with another debian distro and they are both the same.
So now I don't know if I need to check if a different grub file is the problem or anything else.
Can someone help?

About Install Awstats

I follow the URL to install awstats , the installation process seems successful .

http://thelinuxfaq.com/90-how-to-ins...os-fedora-rhel

But when I try to run the report by
Code:
http://192.168.0.1/awstats/awstats.pl?config=mydomain.com ,

it pops the error.

Code:
Not Found

The requested URL /awstats/awstats.pl was not found on this server.

then I create /awstats/awstats.pl in DocumentRoot directory , now when I re-try to run the report , it display the program code of the awstats.pl but not show the report , would advise what is wrong ?

Can't Set Repos In RHEL6.0, Unable To Install Packages

Hi all.
RHEL 6.0 in Virtual Box, network is ok, it can resolve all repos (f.e. dl.fedoraproject.org, nginx.org),
but when I'm trying
Code:
# rpm -Uvh http://nginx.org/packages/rhel/6/noarch/RPMS/nginx-release-rhel-6-0.el6.ngx.noarch.rpm

I get:
Code:
curl: (6) Couldn't resolve host

When I'm trying with ip instead name:
Code:
curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 404

Only rpmforge repo enabled, but it can't find any packets for install/update.

What can I do?
Thanks.

NFS Won't Mount On Boot, But Good Manually (Debian Using NFS4)

I've setup a NFS4 file share on an usb drive on a server at home for my personal use. Both client and server use Debian stable (3.2.0-4-amd64). I followed the tutorial he

http://initrd.org/wiki/NFS_Setup

My setup seems to work fine if I mount it manually, just won't mount at bootup. Looking around online I see that this has been a common and long-standing problem- evidently the system tries to mount the NFS before the network is up.

I found a work-around- add this line to the /etc/rc.local file:

Code:
mount -a -t nfs4

Now it works, but of course I still have to wait for the initial timeout (60 seconds?) and a few more for this to work.

I find this really odd. Lots of online discussion about this for many years going. What is the real story on this? Is there some configuration setting that I (and many others) have simply missed?

BTW- many of the solutions I see online are old, won't work with NFS4, or are OS specific.

thanks,

Why Should I Always Use Chmod When Not As A Root User

System Info:

I have normal user in CentOS 7 whose name is "mostafa" (the name of the account).

I naturally have another user called root with all privileges. User "mostafa" is put into sudoers file, too.

The OS is installed in VmWare, so the system is all mine.

Problem:

Now I create a file with touch file.sh and put a command in it, but when I want to run it with Code:
sudo ./file.sh

, an error is shown that the command Code:
./file.sh

does not exist. But if I Code:
 sudo chmod 777 ./file.sh

then it gets run. My question is that, why should I use Code:
chmod 777

when I myself have created the file, and I am in sudoers.

Can anyone explain me why shuold I still use Code:
sudo chmod 777

when the creator of the file is me.
