I am preparing to take my EX200 exam for red hat Linux ver 6.X. My questions a number one, what are the main differences between version 6.X and 7.X ? and number two, what are some of the tricks I should look for?
I just wanted to post and say how incredibly impressed I am with the whole linux thing! I know you guys have been at this for a while but for someone like me to walk in cold it really is an amazing system. I just ran a full version of Ubuntu studio from my DVD player FROM A FIVE YEAR OLD DELL!!!!!!! It's free, it's incredibly fast and it still hasn't crashed... And I don't know what I'm doing so it really should crash.
I amazed that linux is not the number 1 system in the world. I will make a prediction and say that Linux is going to start to become equally as popular as the big two. It's only a matter of time.
This is not a question. I just want to say to all the programmer guys out there and all the programmers that have contributed to this system..... THANK YOU. you really have changed the world. I'm going to keep going with my exploration and keep asking annoying questions on the forum but I am proud to be a member of the Linux family. Keep it going guys. Brilliant stuff.
Hi guys,
finished my linux+ and want to move on to some red hat training...
so i found on the red hat site:
http://www.redhat.com/en/services/al...ions-and-exams
that:
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) Exam (EX200).
looks like the entry level certification, and an obvious place to start...
i want to self study and have been googling but the information im finding is at least 4 to 6 years old...
has anybody self studied this? i would think so as red hat training is pretty pricey...
can anybody recommend a good study guide or video set or anything that is up to date and may help pass the exam
thanks
Hi. I am relatively new to linux systems. I recently jumped on an endeavor to install a vanilla kernel (3.18.5) from the kernel website. Its Documentation/Changes file mentions the minimum version requirements of the packages needed. For udev, it mentioned
Code:
udevd --version
to check the version number. But looking around I found for Fedora its
Code:
udevadm --version
(I'm using Fedora Workstation 21 64-bit). Is there any fundamental difference between these two utilities? Any explanation would be helpful.
Hi, my name is Daniel & I've been considering trying out Linux. A friend of mine says he's got Linux's Ubuntu, & says he really likes it. I've got experience building computers, & Computer Networking. I've got a Desktop w/a free (empty, unformatted) 150 GB Seagate HDD, so I'd like to try using that HDD for a version of Linux. I'm running Win. 7 Ultimate on my primary drive, but I had to install the Win. 7 Ult. 32 bit disc for it to run successfully. I'm considering a dual boot system.
The System I built has an ASUS (A8N-SLI) 64 bit, Socket 939, NVidia N-Force4 Motherboard, w/an AMD, Athlon XP 4000+ 64 bit CPU. I've got 2 ASUS/NVidia G-Force N6800GT PCI Express Graphics Cards, w/256 MB DDR3 RAM each (using my SLI). I've got 2-1 GB 184 pin sticks of Corsair 3200+, 400 Mhz, CL-2 DDR-RAM. I' ve also got a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Sound System (4.1), w/internal PCI Card & external control box that runs w/Fire Wire. I've also got an Acer 24" Digital monitor, & 1 CD/DVD Burner,& 1 NEC Dual Layer DVD Burner.
I went into detail, just in case my system has something requiring a certain version of Linux. My main problem is, I don't know anything about coding, so I guess I need a version of Linux w/a robust GUI. I thank you in advance for your time & consideration. I look forward to hearing from you. -)
Hi, all. I was new user to linux two weeks ago, but now i try to figure out ACL and etc. Before 7.03.2015 i had no prior experience with linux. I want to attend at next RHCSA exam (approx. 20th of april). I have official training books from Red Hat (RH124) and "RHCSA training live sessions" video set by Pearson, inc. Can i pass RHCSA exam? I don't plan to attend in any training, only self-study. What do you think? Or do you offer any special method to prepare for exam faster except paid trainings? Would be better if answers are by exam-takers or who passed.
PS: I have 3 years of experience in programming, especially C, C# and some other PLs.
Thank you beforehand!
I have a hp xw4300 workstation with a Pentium D 64bit processor. It has Win XP Pro 32 bit on it now. HP no longer provides linux drivers and the linux required official version required is RHEL WS 4. I want to use this as a home file server. Is there any free version that supports this hardware?

TIA for any suggestions.
Hi all,
I need to swap out my HDDs this weekend due to some problems and at this point, am getting tired of Microsoft.
For the longest time I've stuck with windows because I was big into gaming, but these days not so much. And it seems like all of the games I like are available for Linux these days.
So, my questions are :
I've heard that every time a new version of Linux comes out you need to completely reinstall your OS. Is this true? I've got a feeling it may be partially true, but there is more to it. I'm assuming you only need to do this if you want the latest overall version, like Windows, but you get minor updates and can keep running it for years?
How do games run on it? My primary game (be nice..) is Minecraft and other games would be Half life 2, TF2, Counter Strike Source etc. I also run emulators for NES/SNES etc.
If I lose 5-10 FPS over it, it's not a deal killer.
I'll be installing a 250GB SSD + 1TB WD Green this weekend and ditching my two 1TB drives that are showing signs of trouble.
System specs going by memory are :
I5 750 running stock. EVGA P55 SLI motherboard. EVGA GTX 460 video card. 12GB Gskill Ripjaws ram.
I expect it will run any version of Linux fine, but would like opinions on that as well. The last I tried was a few versions of Ubunutu and had no complaints but that was back in 2008-2009.
All opinions are welcome.
Hello - This is my first interaction with Linux. I recently purchased a Raspberry Pi 2 and am running the full version of Raspbian. I intend to use the Pi as my PLEX media server however I have been unsuccessful in mounting my NAS. I've read a number of guides on how to accomplish this but have been striking out on all accounts. I was hoping someone could help me with what information I should be adding.
NAS - Synology Diskstation DS212j - 192.168.5.195
Linux device - Raspberry Pi 2 - Raspbian - 192.168.5.186
Router - D-Link DIR-655 - 192.168.5.1
I've been accessing the Pi via ssh on my MacBook PRO - 192.168.5.188
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
Hi,
I have a 32 bit Dell laptop (Model: d 630)with windows 7 installed. I want to install a linux os on it ( preferably Fedora as I have used fedora 16 earlier). Now I want to know, which version of linux will give optimum performance? It has 2 GB RAM and 80 GB hard disk.
Regards
Ehgul
I am completely new to Linux. Ready to get as much advice and tips as anyone can offer. First, which version should I install? Are the free online versions safe and functional? I am running windows 8.1 on a laptop. Would prefer to install, if possible, any type of Linux on USB or disk. If not possible, use a partition. Everyone has to start somewhere, right?
