Multi_Key Problems (Ubuntu Gnome 14.10, Finnish Layout)

Greetings.

I have a slight problem regarding my right Windows key, which is working as a Multi_Key (Compose).
I'd like it to work as a Super key instead of a Multi_Key since I don't need the latter.
Picture of my keyboard for reference if needed
Xev reports the right Windows key to have a keycode of 134. If you need more information, I'm more than happy to provide.

Thank you for your time.

Desperately Seeking Help With XMODMAP...

Hi Guys, genuine noob here. I need some help with my first 'puter project -

I have a PI2 running Raspbian, a vintage ZX Spectrum computer & hacked USB keyboard chip.

I've used the USB keyboard chip to interface the keys from the Spectrum into my PI2.

Unfortunately, I'm having problems re-mapping the keys using XMODMAP...

Now this where it gets weird, let me explain -

Firstly, I've managed to successfully map the basic numbers & letters, so that the Spectrum keys trigger the appropriate KeySymbol.
However, I'm having serious problems with the modifier keys...

SHIFT_L is mapping perfectly, and will trigger CAPITALIZED letters.
BUT... I can't seem to get accurate results from my re-mapped ALTGR button -

It works fine for SOME keys, but for others it will behave like SHIFT_L or not work at all

So as you can see below, I've (attempted) to re-map the Spectrum's SYMBOL SHIFT key to 'MOD5' (altgr), so that the 'number' keys will trigger !,@,#,$,%,&,',(,) and _.

so for 12345767890, I SHOULD be getting !@#$&%'()_
But - instead I'm getting 12345&78)_
It's working fine for keys '6', '9' and '0' but NOT for the other keys....

GGGrrrrrr... I don't understand what's happening here

Anyway, this is my xmodmap code. Please help me!

# first, sort out CAPS SHIFT and SYMBOL SHIFT as a shift and AltGr key..
xmodmap -e "keycode 85 = Shift_L"
xmodmap -e "keycode 97 = Control_R"
xset -r 85 # prevent new shift from autorepeating
xset -r 97 # prevent new AlrGr from autorepeating
xmodmap -e "add shift = Shift_L"
xmodmap -e "remove control = Control_R"
xmodmap -e "add mod5 = Control_R"

# one key maps to 'Caps Lock', need to remove this function to get it working
xmodmap -e "remove lock = Caps_Lock"

# Right, standard keys now... top row first, left to right...
xmodmap -e "keycode 89 = 1 1 exclam exclam exclam"
xmodmap -e "keycode 88 = 2 2 at at at"
xmodmap -e "keycode 112 = 3 3 numbersign numbersign numbersign"
xmodmap -e "keycode 34 = 4 4 dollar dollar dollar"
xmodmap -e "keycode 33 = 5 5 percent percent percent"
xmodmap -e "keycode 60 = 6 6 ampersand ampersand ampersand"
xmodmap -e "keycode 173 = 7 7 apostrophe apostrophe apostrophe"
xmodmap -e "keycode 114 = 8 8 parenleft parenleft parenleft parenleft"
xmodmap -e "keycode 106 = 9 9 parenright parenright parenright"
xmodmap -e "keycode 86 = 0 BackSpace underscore underscore underscore"

I should also mention that I've asked this same question on the PI forum, and no one's replied -

https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/v...8&t=108434&e=0

Hopefully I can get some help here, as this project is currently useless without being able to re-map the keys.

Many thanks

Linux Mint International Keyboard

I'm a new linux user. I also use Windows 7.

I write in English & French using the USA International Keyboard on Windows ... this works well with 'overstike' (eg, '+e = é). I'm sure there's a linux term for this.

I don't mind making a full keyboard definition myself, but I don't know how & there must be a simple way to get this done.

I really need a full, detailed reference to doing this ... including where to find the various directories (I HAVE found the 'Terminal', but that's it !).

Just a link to a doc or wiki would be welcome ... the web searches I've done have given answers that are too cryptic for my level.

TIA.

Added New Keymap And There Are Errors

Hi, I am a newbie but tried to be overly smart. This is a brand new installation of Linux Mint dual booting with Windows 8.1 on an inexpensive but new notebook (Dell inspiron 14 - 3451).

Well, I read a tutorial and added a keymap after editing 5 files.
All these files are at /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules:
xorg.xml, xorg.lst, evdev.xml, base.xml, base.list
The symbols file is:
/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/lk

Now I get this error:

===============================
Error activating XKB configuration.
There can be various reasons for that.

If you report this situation as a bug, include the results of
• xprop -root | grep XKB
• gsettings get org.gnome.libgnomekbd.keyboard model
• gsettings get org.gnome.libgnomekbd.keyboard layouts
• gsettings get org.gnome.libgnomekbd.keyboard options
===============================

I went through the files for errors, found some and fixed them (I think). Still this same error pops up when I try to add the new layout. How do I do what the message tells me to do (in order to get help)?

May be I'll get some idea if I see the 'results' it is talking about.
But what does it mean by, for example, 'xprop -root | grep XKB'? Must be some console command, but I do not know even how to do that.

Any help or hint is gratefully appreciated.

Thanks.

Mint 17 Cant Set A Persistent Keyboard Layout

I'm using a Swedish keyboard and switch to English for certain terminal commands. I use English as the system language. In both mint 13 and 15 I was able to keep the Swedish layout after restart; now I have to set the keyboard to Swedish after every restart. In 15 it was possible to have a persistent keyboard layout which differed from the system language. I think it was throught regional settings. In 13 I seem to remember using a command from the terminal which I can neither remember or find. Its not a big thing to set the keyboard layout after restart but its rather annoying. Any suggestions?

How Do I Run A Application On Top, In A Display Manager Like GDM.(RHEL 7, Gnome 3.8.4

I want to show keyboard layout and selection of language at login screen in RHEL 7.

I have modified the language menu to show "show keyboard layout" and "Region & Language settings".
On clicking above menu items, applications are launched but they are not visible at login screen.
I check the programs are running by taking a remote session.

gkbd-keyboard-display -l us
gnome-control-center region

above two applications are executing but none is displaying at login screen(gdm).

How can I bring the applications at top of display manager(gdm).

I have tried

Screen Locking Up....multiple Distros

I have a new to me laptop.
On Windows 7 everything is working well. I tried Majaro Gnome, and it worked ok except I could not get the pacman to work, apps to update etc. I then tried Kodora and Suse and on both of those the screen locks up for no apparent reason with no errors. What will happen is the cursor still moves around the screen, it just does not appear to be able to interact with anything. No clicking works, and no keyboard functions work (cant tab, or anything).

Laptop is a Dell Latitude
i5 -2520M
4gb RAM
NVidia NVS 4200M

I dont know what other info would be helpful.
Thanks

Keyboard Layout Not Changed Automatically.

Hello.
I added another language to my Keyboard layout but it is not changed automatically. For example, when I'm in Libreoffice and changed my Keyboard layout to another language and back to Mozillia firefox it is not back to "EN" automatically and I should change it manually.

I use Debian 7.7.

Tnx.

Ubuntu 'dpkg--configure-a' E: Dpkg Was Interrupted Error

Hi,
I am very new to linux, and frankly I do not know a whole lot about computers in general, as I'm entirely self taught, and that was all on windows. I really like the idea and concept of linux and ubuntu, and am in the process of learning. I have recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 LTS on an ex Vista computer at work (upon the urging by the boss). I can give more information on the system if needed. However, I think the problem may not be with the system. This is what I got. I installed the o/s and started downloading the updates from the list. As I tried to install Samba and Wine, all of a sudden things started to become complicated. As I'm doing this at work, and everyone is excited to 'play' with this new o/s, someone tried to download limewire as well, when I was away. I didn't see the error messages at that point, but they apparently had some message about java, and tried to shut everything down. Now when I came back, I get this message:

E: dpkg was interrupted you must manually run 'dpkg -- configure - a' to correct.
Problem E: _cache->open()failed

So, not knowing much about linux and even less about using the terminal, I did open the terminal, and typed in: dpkg--configure-a and hit enter. Then it tells me that that command is not found.

I have followed some other posts that deal with this problem, however, all the remedies that worked for them did not work for me. I could use some help, please. My other option is to just reinstall the o/s all over and start new. Thank you.
