BR,
I'm struggling with Samba with a new NAS/Media server I am trying to build. I have created some shares on my Unbuntu server with Samba that are visible and browseable from my home Windows 8.1 clients but when I try to write to any of them I receive a "try again" error.
I want to be able to copy files from my PC to my new Unbuntu server's shares. For now I have one user only on my Unbuntu server that's in the sudo group. From Windows I have tried to map network drive with "different credentials" but no matter what I try from Windows I still can't copy or move files from Windows to the shares.
Thank you
Want to format a 1 TB Western Digital drive in an old dell 32 bit machine. Machine has Lubuntu installed and a Virtual machine on which which is loaded Windows 7 (32 bit).
Machine does not "see" the new 1 TB (SATA) drive after I physically install it in the machine.
I have other windows and Linux machines. I have some drive cradles in which I can connect to (windows) USB ports.
Is it possible to use the old Dell machine to format the new drive?
(It appears that this question has been answered before. So I will check those materials as well.)
Thanks for any assistance.

Hello,
I generated and uploaded a public key through SSH Client software to our dedicated server. It works fine from the computer I have generated.
My laptop windows become corrupt and I downloaded this key from my email that is attached previously.
Now I am trying to import in SSH Client but its throwing error that unable to read this key file
Can I generate public key from our dedicated server and upload as attachment in my email so that whenever I want I can use and access our server from any machine?
Please advise
Thanks in anticipation
I want my Plex Media Server, Web Server, and Honeypot running on separate partitions. I've formatted them how I want:
SDA7 is my MediaCentre, formatted in XFS, I'd like this mounted as a separate partition and I'd like this to be the location of the Plex Media Server.
SDA8 is my WebServer, formatted in ext4. I'd also like this mounted as a separate partition and be the location of my Web Server (Probs use LAMP and an FTP Download Client).
SDA9 is my Honeypot server, formatted in XFS. Again, I'd like this to be mounted on a separate partition and will be where my Honeypot Server lives.
I'd also like all three servers to be running on VM's to help isolate them.
How do I go about accomplishing this? I'm a Windows native. In Windows I'd have partitioned everything, Created the virtual machines, moved them to their respective partitions, then installed all of the applications.
First things first, how/what do I mount these drives as? Can I just mount them as /mnt/mediaserver and /mnt/webserver etc? Will these mount points then be recognised?
Hello Everyone
I have installed Ubuntu Server on a 500 GB drive formatted as EXT4.
Of of my Media, movies, music and pictures are from Windows PC's formatted in NTFS.
As all of the computers connecting to the server will be windows based will NTFS be fine or will I have to reformat them to work. The two media drives are 2 x 2GB Sata drives.
Could you tell me if this setup would work or will I have to reformat and and transfer the files to a new filesystem.
Also as a file server whats the best linux file system to use so it will work with windows PC's in a lan flawlessly.
Thanks for you expertise.
Regards
Hi,
In first place i would like to give you a brief about my current setup and my requirement.
I have 80% of the machines with CentOS 6.5 installed rest 20% windows 7. I have OpenLDAP v2.4 for user authentication.
In linux environment all linux machines are configured in such a way that whenever a user logs on to system with the help of OpenLDAP credentials he gets a default desktop rather Mandatory Profile is implemented in this setup. Now my goal is to enable OpenLDAP users logon to windows machines and get the same Mandatory profile setup done here. So far SambaPDC helped me to authenticate LDAP accounts on Windows clients machines but the Manadatory profile thing isn't working well at all due to posix acls issue. Now i am working with Windows Server 2012 r2 server so as to integrate with OpenLDAP for getting this Mandatory profile thing done. Is there any way i can sync all OpenLDAP accounts to Active directory or rather make my windows server a member server for OpenLDAP domain.
Please help me on this. Thanks in advance!!
Using a Raspberry Pi w/ Debian
Read the manual and several "how-to"s and am getting nowhere
vsftp is running and making a log file. I can get to the Pi with putty or SAMBA
Ultimately want to be able to both(I) ftp in under the "pi" user to access files remotely and (II) have people sending me huge files ftp them in anonymously
Have tried (I) the ftp client in Windows 7 Internet explorer 11, (ii) the ftp client in the Windows 7 "map network drive" UI, and (iii) ES file explorer on my Android phone.
The android phone tells me there is no server there. Windows 7 gets no password challenge, gives no error indication, but does nothing useful. The vsftpd log file shows some attempt by the Windows machine, nothing for the Android.
Config file and log file attached.
The Android is trying to use port 21, the config file mentions something about port 20. Which ports do I need to forward in my router to enable remote access?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks. Jonathan
I have VirtualBox up and running on my headless Centos 6 machine, am using http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpvirtualbox/ as a GUI, and created a virtual machine and installed Windows 7 on it.
I can access it using the VirtualBox console (via phpvirtualbox interface), however, only can see part of the screen and the mouse doesn't work properly. I can also access it using Windows Remote Desktop Connection using IP 192.168.1.200:9000 (why port 9000?), but again the mouse doesn't work.
I have the following ext packs installed on the server.
Code:
login as: Michael

Do I need additional extensions to better interact with the guest? How are they installed? Thank you
Linux 14.04 server set up following instructions on http://www.havetheknowhow.com
I have been trying to connect to the samba shares from two windows machines. The server is visible but when I try to connect it requests a logon and no matter what I enter it fails. I have been using webmin to set this up and the samba version is 4.1.6-ubuntu.
One note, webmin did not show any samba user groups.
all systems show "WORKGROUP" as the workgroup
