Eeeek! My Kubuntu Thinks I Have An AMD-64 - How Do I Tell It I Have Intel Core I-5?

Dear Everyone,

I seem to have blown it when I first installed my OS.

All the updating messages when I run Muon's software
updates keep saying AMD and AMD64, and other things
that make me think my kernel and libs are confused as
to what processor I have.

What the sticker on the front plate of this Lenovo
V570 says it has, to quote exactly, is an "Intel
Inside(tm) CORE(tm)i5". In the bad old days of Linux
1.0, we would have to recompile the kernel, a prospect
not for the faint of heart.

I was hoping there would be something simpler that you
young whipper-snappers do nowadays.

Old Newbie,
Nerodog.

System Type-64-bit, x64 based OS

It gives me errors with the kernels, ive tried i686 i486 i386, it wont start when I usb unstall 64 amd version, it starts with i386 but the kernel wont run the persistent setup because it gives me an error message about the kernel. i486 just worked all weird on my laptop. Kernel Updates -LInux Mint 17.1 W/Cinnamon

I'm new to Linux and have a question regarding the updating of Linux Kernels.

Should I wait until a kernel update is offered through the update manager, or should I go and get an updated kernel from the update manager/view/linux kernels?

Need Help Getting Team Fortress 2 Working On Ubuntu 14.10

I rescently installed Ubuntu 14.10 (AMD64) on my ASUS X53U (CPU: Brazos Dual Core E350 1.6 GHz GPU: HD 6310M, 3GB RAM) I downloaded Steam from the website, installed it, got some errors and managed to ruin everything (low res, really slughish) by just pasting commands into the terminal that seemed to make sense while I actaully had no idea what I was doing.
So I "threw everything out the window" and installed the OS fresh again.
Everything is fresh. All I have done is run the software updater and installed Grub Customizer so I can access Windows 7. (don't even have Steam installed)
So what are the exact steps on setting up all the OpenGL stuff and getting TF2 to run? (simply things to paste in the terminal would be best)
The most helpful person gets a game of their choice on Steam for under 10 euros.
I know that it should be possible to find everything myself but I just don't have the time or intelligence for that. That's why I would rather just have someone else spend time helping me and buy them a game for their efforts.

New Graphic Card Installed: The Sound Is Now Gone. How To Solve?

hello,
I installed an ATI card into my pc, now the sound is gone. I suppose this is due to the position of that new card which is now "0" (when I start alsamixer, I see the sound default is "HD-Audio Generic" with "Chip: ATI R6xx HDMI". I dont have a screen on the HDMI. I just want to take the "Intel ICH6" with "Chip: Analog Devices AD1981B" as the default card as per previous installation.

What should I do?

cat /proc/asound/cards
Code:
 0 [Generic ]: HDA-Intel - HD-Audio Generic
                      HD-Audio Generic at 0xf0620000 irq 42
 1 [ICH6 ]: ICH4 - Intel ICH6
                      Intel ICH6 with AD1981B at irq 21

Thanks.

No Sound ALSA On Ubuntu 12.04

Hi I a running Ubunto 12.04 on a HP PC with an onboard intel analaog sound card

(ALC662) and a HDMI connection into my TV.
I use this PC for Mythtv and Kodi using the sound over HDMI which works a treat in MythTV however I cannot get the sound to work on Kodi, Firefox or any other app which I presume is down to misconfigured ALSA setup, I had this working previously but it stopped and I am not sure why, possible updates.

Netbook Linux Distro For Software Development

Hey guys, I am trying to find the best lightweight OS for my asus eee pc seashell series which I mainly use for programming; nothing heavy of any sort, just simple programs written in c++ and java for projects and stuff, I have my main pc for android studio and whatnot.

I'm currently using windows 7 ultimate 32-bit and it gets quite slow when I'm running netbeans + oracle sql and a couple of documents and web browsers etc.

Specs:
•Intel Atom N570 Dual core
•Intel GMA 3150
•2GB RAM

I have used Ubuntu 2 years ago for about a year, other than that I don't know anything about Linux distros. I have researched a few distros yet still skeptical about satisfying my needs especially the programming part.
Thanks in advance.

Kdebug PPPd Option Is Not Logging Into /etc/syslog To Log The Kernel Level Raw PPP

Hello

I am trying to log the Kernel level PPPd raw PPP messages (version 2.4.2) using Linux kernel 2.6.x to the /etc/syslog or /var/log/messages but the logging is not enabled for some reason.

I pass the kdebug 7 or kdebug 31 to the PPPd using /etc/ppp/options but the Kernel level debug logs are not shown in /proc/kmsg or using klogd or syslogd.

Can anyone please help me to fix this. What might be the problem?

Please reply..

Thanks,
Rakesh
