Does anyone know how or where I can install for rpmlib error in Redhat?
We're unable to upgrade our environment beyond CentOS 5.10. This is a webserver that has certain reliances to the specific version of the OS, long story short.
I was asked to install a plugin for Redmine that requires at least ruby 1.8.7 so I cloned our VM as a new machine to test functional checkout. The problem is, the existing installation of Ruby was also installed ad hoc (not from any repo or yum methods) and it's currently at 1.8.5. The 1.8.7 version I tried to install gives me the following:
Quote:
# rpm -Uvf ruby-1.8.7.374-2.el6.x86_64.rpm warning: ruby-1.8.7.374-2.el6.x86_64.rpm: Header V3 RSA/SHA1 signatu NOKEY, key ID c105b9de error: Failed dependencies: rpmlib(FileDigests) <= 4.6.0-1 is needed by ruby-1.8.7.374-2.el6.x86_64 ruby-libs = 1.8.7.374-2.el6 is needed by ruby-1.8.7.374-2.el6.x86_64 rpmlib(PayloadIsXz) <= 5.2-1 is needed by ruby-1.8.7.374-2.el6.x86_64 ruby = 1.8.5-31.el5_9 is needed by (installed) ruby-irb-1.8.5-31.el5_9.x86_64 ruby = 1.8.5-31.el5_9 is needed by (installed) ruby-rdoc-1.8.5-31.el5_9.x86_64 ruby = 1.8.5-31.el5_9 is needed by (installed) ruby-ri-1.8.5-31.el5_9.x86_64
It appears as though this particular version was intended for CentOS 6 and, as I've known from previous experience, dependency hell is upon me. So, the question becomes, has anyone successfully upgraded ruby without tinkering with the OS version upgrade and, if so, might you have a HOWTO that prevents dependency hell? This, short of installing from source, is headed in the wrong direction real quick so I'm trying to stick with the RPM method. But, obviously, I'll listen to anything at this point.
I've just started tinkering with Linux and have a question about installing it to my current machine.
I'm running Win 7 Pro and have installed Oracle VM Virtual Box on the C:\ drive which is a 256 GB SSD. I want to create a 15 GB virtual hard drive on a second internal hard drive that has more space on it, and install Zorin 9.1 to it. Currently my C: drive is about 60% full and I'd rather not fill it up past that.
So my question is: Can I run Zorin off of a hard drive other than the C: drive?
Thanks for your consideration.
Dave

Hello. I am an absolute beginner with Linux and would appreciate a bit of hand holding. I am building a small computer for use with Ham radio applications and have never used Linux before.
I have downloaded a Ubuntu build onto a wintel machine and created a cd. The drive in the PC is a CCD an I have only ever used one on a windows machine and then I didn't install it.
Can someone guide me as to :
1) how I should format or in some other way prepare the SSd for the installation of Linux
2) tell me anything I should be aware of in installing Linux to the SSD
3) anything I should watch out for in using the SSd with Linux.
That last one may seem silly but I have been warned never to defrag on the Wintel machine as it will damage the SSD.
I look forward to any help / advice that you may have.
Best regards

Hi all.
RHEL 6.0 in Virtual Box, network is ok, it can resolve all repos (f.e. dl.fedoraproject.org, nginx.org),
but when I'm trying
Code:
# rpm -Uvh http://nginx.org/packages/rhel/6/noarch/RPMS/nginx-release-rhel-6-0.el6.ngx.noarch.rpm
I get:
Code:
curl: (6) Couldn't resolve host
When I'm trying with ip instead name:
Code:
curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 404
Only rpmforge repo enabled, but it can't find any packets for install/update.
What can I do?
Thanks.
Hello,
Host machine: Windows seven 64 bit
Guest machine on Virtual box: Oracle linux 6.5(64 bit)
If there are multiple files sourced, each containing many variables, and each in a location not known to the person using a user,
is there a way to know the file name where the variable is set?
Many thanks
Hello Experts,
I would like to create a server which can act as a YUM repository of Oracle Linux 6.5 and CentOS 6.5. Also I would like other servers to access this repo via http. I am stucked here to understand how I can bring all "RPMs" in to "/repo/OracleLinux/OEL6/current/x86_64" and always keep it updated. I would appreciate any help on this.
Thanks In Advance
