I downloaded Mint and burnt it to a CD. The computer boots up fine with the CD, goes to the Mint home screen, but when I try to install it and partition the hard drive to run next to Windows Vista, the screen completely garbles (green background with short different colored horizontal lines all over it). Is this normal? Should I let it run for a while and it will clear up? How long can I expect the partitioning to take?
I downloaded Mint 15 - MATE and made an iso image DVD disk. Then rebooted with DVD in drive. The followinh happened
Splash screen with Linux Mint on
Then Automatic boot in 9, 8, 7 etc secs
Then Linus Mint 15 in Courier with 4 dots underneath
After 2/3 mins screen turned black, covered in white U letters with Welcome to Linux in background
Then wide red and black horizontal bands
Then a more graphic screen with 2 Linux Mint logos on green and white bands, top one a bit fuzzy. Cursor has a red box around it. Icons for Computer, Mint Home and Install Linux mint 'ghosted' with background showing through
Firefox loads, again ghosted, but cannot access internet even though wifi light lit on computer.
Computer is Fujitsu Seimens Amilo L7320 1.7 GHz and 960 RAM
What is going wrong?
Want to try Linux as computer freezes in Windows XP after about 20 mins.
Help appreciated.
i am very new to linux but i wanted to try it out, my main windows drive is tiny so i decided to format my usb hard drive and use that, first i tried to install ubuntu but i got a normal.mod not found error, so after some reserch and a grub reinstallation it booted once,
the next day however i got another error so i decided to switch to mint to see if it would work any better, but i'm still getting the normal.mod not found error.
i've tried a whole bunch of things like reinstalling mint and grub, boot repair, but nothing works, i'm kinda frustrated because i know it works because it booted up before but i just can't figure out how to fix it.
Good day, I am installing Linux Mint 17.1 64 bit along side Windows 7, and the time it is taking to complete the resizing of partitions gives the impression it will not finish. 12 hours now. To change a 576 gb partition.
Is there something wrong? What should I do?
Hi, So im quite new to linux and im not surprised as iv tried before to check it out and failed then (old computers problem) but i decided to have another go on a new comp recently.
UEFI mobo
Nvidia geforce 770 as output.
I need a duel boot of win7 & mint. Win7 is installed.
UEFI has caused me so many problems its just beyond me ! (i had never heard of it before i brought this comp)
booting Mint from a cd/dvd works fine.
booting from a USB fails with a blank or locked up screen at the first mint logo. (many tests with dif methods of creating live USB)
Installing mint with grub over the top of win boot loader fails , i get no options to choose between win & linux it boots straight to linux and then fails (same error as above)
I have a small SSD with win7 , there is not a lot of space on it so i want to install mint 17.1KDE on a different HDD.
After a month or so of reading testing reading testing etc i ended up getting mint installed on partitions i created on secondary HDD but i had to keep the windows boot loader in place and use easyBCD.
However now i get the choice of win7 or linux and windows still actually works (breakthrough ^^) BUT linux just crashes at boot (at the first logo) and then the monitor looses all signal?
I am soo frustrated. Mint will run of a CD but i can not get it to work in any other way , please help
Thx.
I am installing Linuc Mint Rebecca on this computer: CPU: I7, motherboard: ASUS X99-A, HD: 2x 2TB, motherboard BIOS RAID1, so the total hard drive size is 2TB
While I was installing LINUX MINT on RAID1 hard drive, the installation system pop up ??? ???windows at Wher Are You step, after I click OK, jump to Installation Type, no matter which type I select: Erase disk and install Linux Mint or Someting else, ??? error message pop up at Where are you.
And if I click either of the two disk, it shows "Unable to mount location"
however, I can double click and see the content of RAID1 2TB disk.
Question: what's the problem of LINUX MINT installation on RAID1?
Hi Guys, I installed a dual boot config. on a 160 gb hdd. The first choice in grub menu is Linux Lite (latest distro) and the second boot choice is Mint 17.1 Rebecca. I'm encountering a situation that when I boot into LL the system boots OK. Then when I try a restart and boot into Mint it seems to be doing OK until the end of the boot process at which time the screen flashes the Mint logo and then goes dark-then flashes then goes dark every second or so-endlessly. After a while I'm sometimes able to get Mint to finish booting by hitting the esc key. Any ideas how to make this screen flashing situation stop and do a normal boot?
Update: Solved the problem by changing the resolution settings to coincide with those of LL....flashing stopped!
LL and Mint IMHO are two of the best distros for a Newbie to "get their feet wet." - I know, I am that Newbie.
I am trying to boot Linux Mint from an 8gb Sandisk USB. I changed my boot settings and it boots into what I believe is called grub? I am given two options, Boot Linux Mint, Boot Linux Mint (compatibility mode). When I select either of them all I get is a black screen. I've tried many things to get around this, messing with my graphics card settings (within grub), different USB's (another 8gb and a 32gb), I tried Ubuntu and that just doesn't boot at all I go straight back to my UEFI settings. I'm very new to Linux and I don't just want to hop in, I just want to boot from my USB whenever I want to play around with it. Thank You
Note: I'm running windows 8.1 currently on a ASUS N550JV laptop. I've been using the UUI from Pen Drive Linux.
I'm trying to install mint on my freshly wiped W.D. hard-drive.I have an acer 280?.I downloaded a usb-iso,and mint rebbecca 32bit for my flash drive.I can't get it too load.
I recently purchased a laptop that came with Windows 8.1 as the OS. I am trying to switch it over to Linux Mint 17.1 (Rebecca). I found an Ubuntu disk loader that I placed on a DVD and it boots just fine. Downloaded the 32-bit Linux Mint .I so and burned it to a DVD. Tried to boot from it and nothing. Being new, the problem pretty much has to be something insanely simple but I sure can't find it. Would really appreciate any expertise out there.
