RHEL Changed The W Default Options In 7!!! Is There A Way To Get Them Back?

RHEL changed the w default options in 7!!! (or at least Centos did) Is there a way to get them back?

In particular the -f flag is gone now as a default option, to show the IP, of the person connecting.

Which means instead of a simple 1 letter:
Code:
w

You have to do:
Code:
w -f

or Code:
finger

If there an easy way to add that option back as a default option? (Other than making an alias).

Can't Set Repos In RHEL6.0, Unable To Install Packages

Hi all.
RHEL 6.0 in Virtual Box, network is ok, it can resolve all repos (f.e. dl.fedoraproject.org, nginx.org),
but when I'm trying
Code:
# rpm -Uvh http://nginx.org/packages/rhel/6/noarch/RPMS/nginx-release-rhel-6-0.el6.ngx.noarch.rpm

I get:
Code:
curl: (6) Couldn't resolve host

When I'm trying with ip instead name:
Code:
curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 404

Only rpmforge repo enabled, but it can't find any packets for install/update.

What can I do?
Thanks.

Multiple Openssl

Hi,

Friends,

Good Morning to all. I have some queries about openssl. I googled for by query but i did not got the relevant answer, hence I came here and i am guaranteed that you gyes will help me definitely as you helped me before as well.

My scenario is I had one centOS 6 server which had openssl version as
Code:
 rpm -qa|grep openssl
openssl-1.0.1e-30.el6_6.5.x86_64
openssl-devel-1.0.1e-30.el6_6.5.x86_64

CentOS 6 provides php5.3 as default
Code:
yum list php
Loaded plugins: downloadonly, fastestmirror, presto
Determining fastest mirrors
base                                                                                                                                    | 3.7 kB     00:00

But I need php5.2, so i preferd to go compilation. It gave me some errors while doing make regarding openssl. I googled for it, gave solution of downgrading openssl.

As default openssl can't be removed, I prefered installing openssl-0.9.x through compilation with --prefix option. After doing I was able to compile php-5.2 successfully.

Now in my server there are followings installed.

Code:
[next02admin@NEXT02VMD02 ~]$ /usr/bin/openssl version
OpenSSL 1.0.1e-fips 11 Feb 2013 (the default one)

[next02admin@NEXT02VMD02 ~]$ /usr/local/bin/openssl version
OpenSSL 0.9.8e 23 Feb 2007 (the compiled one)

[next02admin@NEXT02VMD02 ~]$ php -v
PHP 5.2.10 (cli) (built: Jul  1 2014 00:39:27)
Copyright (c) 1997-2009 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v2.2.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2009 Zend Technologies

[next02admin@NEXT02VMD02 ~]$ rpm -qa|grep httpd
httpd-tools-2.2.15-39.el6.centos.x86_64
httpd-2.2.15-39.el6.centos.x86_64
httpd-devel-2.2.15-39.el6.centos.x86_64

Now My question is,
1) Is it safe to use both openssl versions simultaneously.
2) Will it cause any vulnerability on my site (prod ENV), if it will affect to prod env, then to what extend.

Your replies will be very very appreciable. I will be very thankful to you.

Permission Denied For PhpMyAdmin

Hi,

On Centos 7 I haven't been able to configure phpmyadmin. I've got Apache 2.4.6 and I've installed the latest phpmyadmin, both with yum.
I've changed all the 127.0.0.1 to my public ip and I've disabled the 'denied all' directives. This is how it looks:
Code:
Alias /phpMyAdmin /usr/share/phpMyAdmin
Alias /phpmyadmin /usr/share/phpMyAdmin

<Directory /usr/share/phpMyAdmin/>
   AddDefaultCharset UTF-8

   <IfModule mod_authz_core.c>
     # Apache 2.4
     <RequireAny>
       Require ip X.X.X.X
       Require ip ::1
     </RequireAny>
   </IfModule>
   <IfModule !mod_authz_core.c>
     # Apache 2.2
     Order Deny,Allow
     #Deny from All
     Allow from X.X.X.X
     Allow from ::1
   </IfModule>
</Directory>

<Directory /usr/share/phpMyAdmin/setup/>
   <IfModule mod_authz_core.c>
     # Apache 2.4
     <RequireAny>
       Require ip X.X.X.X
       Require ip ::1
     </RequireAny>
   </IfModule>
   <IfModule !mod_authz_core.c>
     # Apache 2.2
     Order Deny,Allow
     #Deny from All
     Allow from X.X.X.X
     Allow from ::1
</IfModule>
</Directory>

# These directories do not require access over HTTP - taken from the original
# phpMyAdmin upstream tarball
#
<Directory /usr/share/phpMyAdmin/libraries/>
    Order Deny,Allow
    #Deny from All
    Allow from All
</Directory>

<Directory /usr/share/phpMyAdmin/setup/lib/>
    Order Deny,Allow
    #Deny from All
    Allow from All
</Directory>

<Directory /usr/share/phpMyAdmin/setup/frames/>
    Order Deny,Allow
    #Deny from All
    #Allow from None
    Allow from All
</Directory>

on /var/log/httpd/error_log:
Code:
AH01630: client denied by server configuration: /usr/share/phpMyAdmin

The httpd.conf hasn't been changed except this:
Code:
<Directory />
    AllowOverride none
    #Require all denied
    Allow from all
</Directory>

Normal access to my apache works fine (a default test page shows up)

SELinux is disabled and I've also stopped iptables to test it.

CentOS 7 - Not Able To Open Vmplayer

I have CentOS 7 64 bit. I have installed open-vm-tools on it.
I have installed vmplayer using
Code:
./VMware-Player-6.0.1-1379776.x86_64.bundle

Now when I try to open vmplayer on it, it does not load 'Virtual Network Device'
and shows error in terminal
Code:
Failed to build vmnet. Failed to execute the build command.

When I check status of vmware, it shows
Code:
Module vmnet not loaded

If I try to run
Code:
vmware-modconfig --console --install-all

It gives me following error.
Code:
make: Leaving directory `/tmp/modconfig-2NfFeS/vmnet-only'
Unable to install all modules.

I am not able to open VMplayer, please help me to open it.

Thanks

Help On Rndc. Want To Control Remote Bind Server, But Cant....

Hi All,

Please help me. I'm following the book - ' DNS and BIND, 5th Ed By Paul Albitz, Cricket Liu '. This RNDC is driving me crazy. I spent all day trying to configure rndc. Tried every possible combination in config files, but I just cant control remote server. Tried many tutorials from google, nothing helped. LQ is my last hope.

So, my story goes like this...

I Need To Setup Kyless Ssh Between CentOS And HP-UX Both Ways

I have 2 linux boxes Code:
HP-UX server1 B.11.11 U 9000/800

and Code:
 CentOS release 6.3 (Final)

I need to setup a password-less ssh. I could login from HP-UX to cent os but not other way.

Is it possible to use password less ssh both ways ? Is there any extra step in HP to setup keygen?

what I am doing

Code:
ssh-keygen -t rsa

copy the ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub from client machine to ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on server machine

About Install Awstats

I follow the URL to install awstats , the installation process seems successful .

http://thelinuxfaq.com/90-how-to-ins...os-fedora-rhel

But when I try to run the report by
Code:
http://192.168.0.1/awstats/awstats.pl?config=mydomain.com ,

it pops the error.

Code:
Not Found

The requested URL /awstats/awstats.pl was not found on this server.

then I create /awstats/awstats.pl in DocumentRoot directory , now when I re-try to run the report , it display the program code of the awstats.pl but not show the report , would advise what is wrong ?

Why Should I Always Use Chmod When Not As A Root User

System Info:

I have normal user in CentOS 7 whose name is "mostafa" (the name of the account).

I naturally have another user called root with all privileges. User "mostafa" is put into sudoers file, too.

The OS is installed in VmWare, so the system is all mine.

Problem:

Now I create a file with touch file.sh and put a command in it, but when I want to run it with Code:
sudo ./file.sh

, an error is shown that the command Code:
./file.sh

does not exist. But if I Code:
 sudo chmod 777 ./file.sh

then it gets run. My question is that, why should I use Code:
chmod 777

when I myself have created the file, and I am in sudoers.

Can anyone explain me why shuold I still use Code:
sudo chmod 777

when the creator of the file is me.

Termite Configuration Problem

i'm setting up arch linux and trying to get a workable interface to mess around with my configuration files and the like. i got bspwm working with bar and sxhkd works fine to open termite or firefox/vimperator for starters. i set up ~/.config/termite/config for both root and my user the best i could based on the information available on the 'net. the fg/bg colors seem to have changed, but all my other colors are just default like in the login shell, when all my colorn = #digits options are obviously all blue-hued.

~/.config/termite/config:
Code:
[options]
resize_grip = false
scroll_on_output = true
scroll_on_keystroke = true
audible_bell = true
visible_bell = false
mouse_autohide = true
dynamic_title = true
urgent_on_bell = true
clickable_url = true
scrollback_lines = 1024
icon_name = terminal
transparency = 1.7
pseudo_transparency = false
cursor_blink = system
cursor_shape = block
padding = 2
border_width = 0.5
roundness = 2.0
browser = firefox
font = Terminus 12
foreground = #9999ff
background = rgba(33, 33, 66, 0.6)
hilight = #333366
color0 = #333366
color8 = #333399
color1 = #6666cc
color9 = #9999ff
color2 = #0099cc
color10 = #00ccff
color3 = #3366cc
color11 = #6699ff
color4 = #006699
color12 = #0099cc
color5 = #0066ff
color13 = #0099ff
color6 = #669999
color14 = #66cccc
color7 = #99cccc
color15 = #ccffff

i'm still having trouble getting around and figuring out to ex. copy from vim to vimperator and stuff so i'll add any of my dotfiles if anyone thinks they'll help.

edit: i also made zsh my default shell on all of my accounts. this is the global zshrc in /etc/zsh/zshrc:

Code:
autoload -U run-help
autoload run-help-git
autoload run-help-svn
autoload run-help-svk
unalias run-help
alias help=run-help

setopt HIST_IGNORE_DUPS

export LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8
export LANG=en_US.UTF-8
export LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8
export EDITOR="vim"
export SXHKD_SHELL=$(which sh)

eval $(dircolors ~/.dircolors)

alias ls="ls -a --color"

autoload -U colors && colors

PROMPT="{$fg_no_bold[green]%}%# %{$reset_color%}"
RPROMPT="%{$fg_no_bold[blue]%}%~%{$reset_color%}"

HOW-TO: Install Certificate And Verify

Dear All,

I am trying to install a certificate and then authenticate with LDAP,
but I think I have been lost somewhere in the middle :

In a CentOS 7 system,
First, I would like to make sure that the certificate is installed and used :

Code:
yum install ca-certificates
update-ca-trust enable
cp cacert.pem /etc/pki/ca-trust/source/anchors/
update-ca-trust extract

When I do :
Code:
openssl s_client -showcerts -connect ...:636

Code:
openssl verify cacert.pem
cacert.pem: OK

Code:
openssl version -d
OPENSSLDIR: "/etc/pki/tls"

Solved with :
Quote:
openssl s_client -showcerts -connect ...:636
