I have installed Berryboot on a Raspberry Pi and at present am running Fedora 21 Mate. I opened the Mate terminal but cannot seem to do anything with it. I tried running 'sudo apt-get update' and keep getting the message ''myname' is not in the sudoers file This incident will be reported'. I have no idea what to do.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hey, I'm having a bit trouble getting this working right.
I'm using mate desktop and lightdm
my .xinitrc only contains exec "mate-session"
Xorg file
http://pastebin.com/ipBMwT38
I can login to another X session fine, and start mate desktop with startx. This defeats the purpose of running a seperate X for games though...
steam launches fine from terminal, but my keyboard or mouse doesn't work.
Also in Xorg I enabled coolbits = 24 still can't use NVclock to adjust anything even though it detects my video card details fine.
Okay so being the newbie with Linux I accidentally installed cinnamon to duel boot with my windows7 instead of mate. Now I ran the code to install mate along with it but I don't won't both on my computer just mate. So is there a code or something that I can run to take cinnamon off and just have mate. Sorry if this is obvious I've searched but found nothing and I'm only a day into my Linux setup. Thanks!
When I run update manager in linux Mint Mate why does it give me updates for other desktops in Linux Mint? Is it necessary to download these in Mate? Some are listed as 1 priority. Thanks for any answers to this question.

I have downloaded the JMRI/Decoder Pro package. When I go to open Decoder Pro I get the screen which asks, Run in Terminal, Display, ,?, and Run. If I select Run I get no response, If I select Run in Terminal The Terminal screen flashes for only a second and dissapears.
I have not been able to get an Icon to launch the program from my desktop.
I am usung Linux Mint 16 (Petra)3.11.0-12 generic (MATE) 1.6.1
JMRI is the standard download for Linux from Source . org.
I am new to both Linux (3 yrs) JMRI had worked with it some in Windows, Totally new in Linux.
I don't know what else to include, I'll be happy to answer questions.
Greetings,
I have been tinkering around with a distribution called gNewSense, a distribution endorsed and sponsored by the Free Software Foundation. I'm currently running version 3.1
I had a question about it.
I was wondering what the default desktop environment is. It looks to me like either Gnome 2 or the MATE desktop environment. I'm not sure which one it is. Both desktop environments look very similar to me.
A few places on the internet seem to indicate that it might actually be Gnome 2, however, I was under the impression that development for that version of the Gnome desktop has long ago stopped, and, in essence, the MATE desktop has taken it's place and continues to be developed for.
Thank you
Hi everyone,
I just installed Mint 17 Mate, I created the partition of about 30 gigs, it installes to the point where the linux image is on the desktop, but unfortunately the mouse and keyboard is frozen.
W8.1 64 bit (brand new machine).
I installed the 64 bit Mint Mate iso
It all seemed to be going seamlessly until I started my celebrations
ps. it hadn't gotten to the installation pont where I was able to select the 30g of non-allocated space
Any ideas?
Hi There
I am a newbie, of course, running Mate on Mint 17.1 Rebecca.
I seem to be having all sorts of glitches with this installation so will try and sort them one at a time.
All had been fine with Petra and Quina ( I know - so why update you ask?) but wanted the up to date version for the lasting support.
I updated through Mint 17 Quina rather than doing a new install.
The most important glitch to solve first is at the start and logon.
For some reason my password is not being saved and keeps showing as Error.
I then have to reboot and go into Setup and retype Password in both the Administrator and User boxes before clicking F10 to Save and Exit.
Am still trying to understand how to use the Terminal correctly but any help would be appreciated.
hey guys, I need help with yum install system-config-kickstart.
Ive try running this in terminal with root and user. nothing seems to work.
I got a message:
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora.
Please verify its path and try again.
Guys I'm new to Linux. What should I do?
Hi
I have installed Linux Mint 17 Mate. I worked very well for many many days. However, today suddenly the sound system has stopped making any sound. Linux Mint is producing any sound, whatever audio/video player I use. How can I fix it?
Update: The sound system in Mate Control Center is making sound, however VLC/MPlayer are not producing any sound. But audacious is making sound.
PS. Other OSes are producing sounds correctly.
I am reading a gnuplot pdf FAQ. In section 3.13 it says: "This requires you to write contours into a temporary file using the table terminal." Then I google and all I get is terminal-table. It says: install terminal-table by applying this command:
Quote:
$ sudo gem install terminal-table
What is it all about? What is a table terminal? What is a terminal-table? It looks like terminal table is to print tables in a terminal, right?
Thanks, - A.
