I'm Having Trouble Adding Ppa's

I'm running kali linux. I'm having troubles installing pretty much anything, because when I add any ppa using the add-apt-repository command, I get an error message. I'll use simple screen recorder as an example

add-apt-repository ppa:maarten-baert/simplescreenrecorder

maarten-baert/simplescreenrecorder
Executing: gpg --ignore-time-conflict --no-options --no-default-keyring --secret-keyring /tmp/tmp.EQM7zzCyye --trustdb-name /etc/apt//trustdb.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --primary-keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//debian-archive-jessie-automatic.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//debian-archive-jessie-security-automatic.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//debian-archive-jessie-stable.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//debian-archive-squeeze-automatic.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//debian-archive-squeeze-stable.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//debian-archive-wheezy-automatic.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//debian-archive-wheezy-stable.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//kali-archive-keyring.gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com

Can someone please tell me what is going on? I have never been able to add a ppa before using kali linux.

GPG: How Does A Gpg2Masterkey(THE Private Key) Store All The Info Of Its PubSub Keys?

For one user I generated a gpg2 key-pair. I exported these to ascii-armour text files as master.asc and pub.asc. Then took only the pub.asc onto the keyring of a second user on the same partition. I "signed" a simple text file (say trial.txt) with the master key and also transferred it to the home directory of the second user. The pub key on the second user's keyring could verify the signature on the signed text file (trial.txt.gpg) but could not decrypt it. Also, a file encrypted by the second user with the pubkey could be decrypted by the masterkey. Each key therefore has, embedded in its structure, information about child/parent keys. Can anyone thrown light on the actual method of incorporation of this mutual recognition in the key structures? Note:The same kind of recognition happens with sub-keys derived from the Master-key. Can't find any literature which details. Help pl.

Unable To Upgrade Squeeze To Wheezy

I try to upgrade the disto currently running in my box:

Description: Debian GNU/Linux 6.0 (squeeze)
Release: 6.0
Codename: squeeze

My sources.list looks like following:

deb http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main
# wheezy-updates, previously known as 'volatile'
deb http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ wheezy-updates main
deb-src http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ wheezy-updates main

After 2 commands:

aptitude update
aptitude upgrade

I have the same old good squeeze.
Help, please

What's Wrong With My /etc/apt/sources.list - Jessie.

Hi all,
This is my /etc/apt/sources.list of jessie, what's wrong as I am getting the following error output .

error :-

This is my /etc/apt/sources.list :-

deb http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free

# testing-updates, previously known as 'volatile'
#deb http://http.debian.net/debian jessie-updates main contrib non-free
#deb-src http://http.debian.net/debian jessie-updates main contrib non-free

Now I am guessing one or more of the entries above are wrong, as probably all of testing-updates would probably come into play once jessie is released, right ?

This was generated via http://debgen.simplylinux.ch/ for lack of better places to generate sources.list from.

What's With Debian

I just read that in 2013 nasa stopped using windows and moved to linux quoting the need for a more stable ssystem with better security. They also said that they were using debian.

http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/1...ed-reliability

They also use lenova thinkpads for the same reasons.

My question is, what is the functionality difference with debian? Is it more stable than other distributions? If ubuntu is Debian based, what is the difference?

I'm currently using ubuntu studio Distro and very happy with it but I'm very interested in the reasons why nasa use Debian.

.tar.gz 111GB Extracting Fails

Hi guys

We are trying to move Oracle applications database tier archive, that is 111GB (over Linux) to a USB external drive using cp. Though the file successfully gets transferred to the external drive, trying to extract the file from a 2nd machine always fails, saying the archive is corrupt.
We have checked the integrity of the archive using 7-zip, reporting no errors. However totally frustrated as our last few attempts were totally futile.

The interesting part is, if we do scp to transfer the file to 2nd machine, extraction doesn't fail.

Please let us know, how we can successfully move this archive to the 2nd machine which is at a remote location and no possibilities of setting up a FTP for such a huge size file.

Both the source and destination Linux distros are RHEL 5 Enterprise, 64Bit, ext3 file systems.

Blackscreen Installing Debian Jessie Upgrading From Debian Wheezy

OK, I've created my user, I read all the post like: "Sticky: Please READ this before posting!" and the recommended post.

This morning I tried to upgrade my Debian Wheezy to Debian Jessie. I took a while to read the release-notes, change the source.list typing "jessie" in order of "wheezy".

Then, I opened a script with:

# script -t 2>~/actualiza-a-jessie01.time -a ~/actualiza-a-jessie01.script

and, finally:

# apt-get dist-upgrade

The installation started and all was go on until the postgresql when the installation stops and there was nothing to do. A lot of time after I decide restar the computer but now it doesn't start.

Appears the Debian 8 start menu with:
GNU GRUP versión 2.02

And the menu options:
Debian GNU/Linux
Opciones avanzadas para Debian GNU/Linux
Memory test (memtest86+)
Memory test (memtest86+, serial console 115200)
Memory test (memtest86+, experimental multiboot)
Memory test (memtest86+, serial console 115200, experimental multiboot)

When I select GNU/Linux I only get:
Loanding, please wait...
fsck from util-linux 2.25.2
/dev/sda1: clean, 619892/30269440 files, 68856006/121052672 blocks

and then.... nothing.

What can I do to restore my computer?

Thanks in advance.

Kali Or Debian

OK, so I am taking Cyber security classes at my college, and I am getting myself into pen testing and stuff of that sort (but still completely a newbie). I am deciding between what OS I want for my laptop < Debian or Kali >. I know Kali is used mostly for security field type work, but I would also like to be able to practice on my Developing skills to. would kali os be a good choice for me or would debian be a better choice for security/development? I have met a few security professionals who keep telling me that real professionals use whatever os they want and just build their own tools?
