i want to know how to extend lvm partition
im running out of space on the / partition
how do i extend this partition? this machine is inside a vmware environment.
i tried follow this article:
http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/System-...9#.VRPgAY6UdCc
but it seems that the command "fdisk" is not recognized
what should i do?
On my partner's duel boot computer (Windows 7 & Linux Mint 17.1) after an update and grub upgrade the time the choices menu stays on screen is only a few seconds.
How do I extend that time from a few seconds to about 15 seconds that will give her enough time to choose her OS of choice?
Thanks,
gael
Hello all
I am trying to create a Hyper-V 2012 Virtual machine running Cent0S 6.5 for a client. Currently I have the VM set up with two SCSI disks one of size 25GB and one of size 60 GB.. The 25 GB disk will be the OS disk and the 60 GB disk will be the data disk which holds the data from the database. I want to create an LVM on the 60 GB disk and increase it over time as the database gets bigger. As soon as the disk gets to about 1 TB, I will create a third disk, and extend the Volume Group to include that third disk as well. The third disk will eventually grow past 1TB as well (but not 2TB)
Overall my question is, would this type of set up be possibly using a MBR Bios set up? or would I HAVE To use GPT?
all help is greatly appreciated!
Hi folks,
as my title says, i need to protect an ext3 partition in my external 500GB toshiba usb hard diks. it is a 250gb Partition. so if i try to open the partition on any linux or windows system (using a utility), it should ask for a password to open the partition. pls advise.
Hi all,
I'm aspiring new Linux Administrator and I have been given tasks of looking at various Linux servers and clients. As a newbie, I often forget/confuse about the series of steps I should take to accomplish certain tasks against various types of Linux distro. So I have some large no of notes in text file format, which i often refer to.
Earlier I used Microsoft OneNote, which can be used to view/update/create notes from my home PC, my Android phone or through various web browsers at client's site. But now, I am not able to access notes simply because, (1) MS SkyDrive is too slow, (2) Many of Linux machines have no GUI, (3) I'm not allowed to carry my Android phone inside server rooms, etc.
Long story short, I should be able to access my text notes in terminal from any machine which has internet connection. And also if I may extend, also in my android phone.
What I have with me is one .com domain with hosting space for next 1 year.
Any Idea on how I should proceed will be really appreciated.
Many thanks.
How can I make this Data partition be readable and writeable? I tried the "chmod 777" command, but was unsure of what directory to type in . I tried several but the command wouldn't start. This partition is on the second hardrive. I am just trying to get more storage on the second hard drive, so I hope I partitioned correctly. The drive was originally mounted as usr, but I managed to shrink that and make a new partition named Data.
Hello, i hope i created this thread in good place
I have 2 linux Xubuntu 14.04 partitions
GRUB shows only one partition, i cannot switch user to the second partition too, but file manager sees it right.
In GParted it looks like this:
http://s23.postimg.org/igpp2j1jf/Scr...5_19_08_53.png
the bigger dev/sda/1 partition is my old one which i want to boot with GRUB and use it
and /dev/sda/6 is new which i need to remove
But i cannot do this because GRUB doesn`t see /dev/sda/1, so what can i do?
My GRUB version is 2.02~beta2-9ubuntu1, i tried to update it with sudo update-grub but no effects.
Thanks for your effort
I'm setting up a new Linux server and trying to get the best performance from it, along with if any directory fills up, then I won't have to worry about the whole OS.
I want to split up /var into various partitions, such as the following:
/var/cache
/var/log
/var/software_install
Will there be a problem with having these separate partitions and still having a separate partition for /var too?
Or should I plan on just a separate partition only for /var only?
thanks
Hi All;
Can someone give me some guidance on partitioning a 4TB drive into one partition ?
My goal is to align the partition for best performance. I searched the net for advice and I've found a lot of information on it but am still confused.
After setting the label to gpt,
I tried mkpart primary 0% 100%
and I get the warning that the partition isn't aligned
then I tried mkpart primary 1 -1 (which I really hoped would get me completed)
and when I do an align-check on partition 1, it reports 1 aligned
but then when I do an fdisk -l,
I get the warning that partition 1 does not start on a physical sector boundary
I read that sector size is usually 512 bytes but on some (or perhaps all) larger disks, the sector size is 4096.
I am really not knowledgable in this area and not sure if the above message about partition 1 not starting on a physical sector boundary is important or what impact this will have to my performance. Since these 4tb drives are being used in a media server, I'd like them to be as fast and efficient as possible.
Can you offer some guidance or perhaps some commands on how to partition my (full) 4tb drive into one partition so it is aligned and also so the partition table starts on a physical sector boundary ?
Also, is there a Ubuntu utility to display the sector size of a disk?
I have been researching this issue off and on for a few weeks and would like to finally get this partitioning completed this weekend so I can get on with setting up my system.
Thanks.
Tim
Any one ever use VPS web hosting ?
I'm going to order an OpenVZ VPS hosting, and I think the hosting company will give me a linux with one big root partition only.
Since it is a VPS, I can't use a live CD to re-partition.
Is there anyway to re-size root partition without using live CD ?
