hello there,
i am in the process of creating a custom linux distribution out of Ubuntu 12.04. i have recompiled the kernel with a few custom tweaks, added a light desktop enironment and uninstalled certain unwanted programs. now i want to create my own distribution CD of this operating system for my small office .
I have alraedy tried REMASTERSYS, which has been discontinued, hence. i have created a backup (ISO)from RELINUX which is not getting deployed on a VM or not helpful in creating a installable CD.
i need help in creating a installable CD of the OPERATING SYSTEM from my PC so that i can use it as a CUSTOM DISTRO.
I'm a newbie please dont mind my language and inadequacy of information if any
Regards
I am creating my own remastered version of Ubuntu. I was wondering if it's possible to edit the boot logo with your own custom logo. I have researched for a bit, and can't seem to find anyway to actually customize the boot screen with your own logo. It would be great if someone could help me out with this.
Hi. Sorry to be so stupid, but I just managed to load and install this Linux (which I really like a lot) on my previously windows <--(bad) system.
But now I need to upgrade some software (like Adobe flash), and I have no clue how to do this. I understand I should go to my original linux distrubutor, and select software thru them (my "Linux distro").
But actually, it's been awhile since I did the install, and I dont exactly remember where I even got this distribution. (I know, I'm dumb--sorry).
Is there a way I can look at my linux system files and see who my distribution is thru, and where is their website. Or would it be easier if I just went thru the whole download and install of linux again <--(not really looking forward to that).
Or even, am I wrong about going thru the distro to do installs/upgrades?
Anything you can tell me will be greatly appreciated.
Long Live Linux !! David K
I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 1012, which came with a Windows XP operating system. I would like to change to a Linux operating system. Which one would be best for such limited--small capacity--hardware?
Good morning
I wanted to ask if someone can enlighten me in how to debug the pxe service. I have a pxe server that serves some images of linux flavors, the server is working fine in regards to the direct text and graphical installations. I have also some opensuse distro's that should be installable via ssh and vnc, if I am trying to perform this, nothing is loading anymore after the ready status(respectively after the kernel and initrd is loaded). the options for starting the ssh install are ssh=1, sshpassword=blabla, console=ttyS0,57600 and off-course initrd.
I verified the tftp server logs, everything is looking normal, the same as when the x11 or text installations that work perfectly, firewallis off. dhcp is offering an IP.
Is there some way to debug this issue, I have tried to find something on google but with no luck.
pxe server distro is opensuse 12,3
Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone, I am a beginner Linux user. I have a had very little experience with it and would very much like to know more. Eventually I want to have my computer running strictly Linux.
I have experimented with a few distributions but almost all of them have had issues with my current setup. I always have trouble setting up the drivers for my video card and mouse. I have dabbled in Ubuntu(primarily), Fedora and Linux Mint.
My question is which distribution would you all suggest I use based upon my specs.
My System Specs:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 925 @ 2.80 Ghz
RAM: 8 GB of DDR3
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6870 w/ 1GB VRAM
Ethernet: Killer Xeno Pro 2100 & On-Board
Mouse: R.A.T 5
If anything else is needed to help determine the right distro please let me know.
All help is much appreciated.
Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening
As my subject line states I am trying to upgrade the MOBO/CPU/RAM on a system that has Mandrake 9.2 as the OS. Everything is terribly outdated on it, but unfortunately the OS is running a custom program that I did not develop and talking to the developer seems to be an impossible task. I have no working knowledge of any Linux based OS, so I am trying to get pointed in the right direction on possible troubleshooting that may occur. The system is not connected to the internet so it wont be able to automatically update the necessary drivers that I already know. I haven't gone forward with the upgrades as of yet, one because I am waiting on the CPU to arrive and two because my lack of knowledge makes me hesitant. I know that someone is thinking why not just upgrade the OS, the reason behind that is because I am unsure on if the custom software will even run on it. Any help would be appreciated.
tl;dr
Will I be able to just plug and play the new hardware as long I have the correct drivers?
Hello
I'm trying to install arch based distro antergos on my system. I have slow but stable internet connection (512 kbps). But unfortunately, in the area I live, there is frequent power cuts. This is creating problem for me. It takes at least 4-5 hours to install antergos linux. Every time installation almost finishes, there will be a power cut, and i have to start it again. This happened 4-5 times, and i have wasted 2 days just trying to install this distro. Still unsuccessful. This incomplete installed linux boots to 'Grub Rescue' screen.
Is there any way I can continue installation from where it went down?
Really be grateful, if someone tells me how, or atleast redirect me to any knowledge base.
Thanks
Hey, I'm aware that /etc/ stores config files and in my home directory I also have dot files as well as a .config folder.
And I'm told not to edit /etc/ but create a copy in my home directory to preserve original files. Is it as simple as creating the full path the same as /etc/ and editing it in home folder?
Ideally this is how I hope it works, because I don't want to edit /etc/ and end up with a bunch of custom, non default files.
