Hi all,
I am new to this forum and Linux. I installed the Linux Lite 2.2 version OS in the HP laptop (32 bit). Really I am working on Mainframe technology. So I wanted to connect to Mainframe through Linux Lite software. Can any one guide me to do this in my system and connect to mainframe(IBM).
Thanks & Regards
Raghunathan
I have tried searching the net to download ISOs of U-lite Linux and Fluxbuntu, but to no avail. It would be a very helpful if someone provides the needful.
Thank you,
This is my absolute first time using Linux and I'm totally overwhelmed. I've created a bootable USB (using Unetbootin) and now I really don't know where to go. I've managed to get as far as being able to find the drive through GNU Grub but don't know what to do from there. (This is a new notebook with no other OS than Linpus Lite.) Do I need to install a UEFI first? Any (detailed) help is appreciated as I'm a total beginner... but determined! Thanks!
Hello
As a learning experience, I want to jump from Windows 7 to Linux full time on my laptop. This isn't because of some antiWindows bullshit or because its free or anything like that. I just want to learn the ins and outs of Linux like I pretty much know on Windows.
I plan to go with Ubuntu. LTS or latest stable version? Thoughts?
First off, compatibility. I do need that all my hardware on my laptop be compatible. From shortcut keys to wifi. This is not a brand new laptop so there shouldn't be any problems. Its a Dell Vostro 1510.
Next, software. Basically on this laptop software I use in and out: uTorrent, Teamviewer, WMP, mIRC, Skype, vSphere Client, Microsoft Office......That's pretty much it IMO. Also Facebook and YouTube (Flash) are a must. I will run all this software in WINE. I don't want (most) of the Linux ports. Im not looking to replace programs I like and use daily. Just looking to replace the operating system.
Next, virtualization. Due to some things (like Office) cannot be ran in Linux, I use a VM. VMWare with its unity feature pretty much gives me what I want.
Next, streaming. I need to be able to stream media from a WS2012R2 to this Linux installation. Special setup?
Anything that is blowing over me, please mention.
Thank you
Hi. Sorry to be so stupid, but I just managed to load and install this Linux (which I really like a lot) on my previously windows <--(bad) system.
But now I need to upgrade some software (like Adobe flash), and I have no clue how to do this. I understand I should go to my original linux distrubutor, and select software thru them (my "Linux distro").
But actually, it's been awhile since I did the install, and I dont exactly remember where I even got this distribution. (I know, I'm dumb--sorry).
Is there a way I can look at my linux system files and see who my distribution is thru, and where is their website. Or would it be easier if I just went thru the whole download and install of linux again <--(not really looking forward to that).
Or even, am I wrong about going thru the distro to do installs/upgrades?
Anything you can tell me will be greatly appreciated.
Long Live Linux !! David K
Hello, My issue is very common but, not able to resolve it.
Issue I am facing with my Linux (RHEL-5 32-bit) machine, where I am not able to connect to internet.
DWR-113 - D-Link Router is configured for 3G dongle (Vodafone India) - This setup is done via WiFi and not using the provided LAN cable from Win7 machine.
Internet is working absolutely fine in case of Wireless but, at same time when LAN cable is used internet is not working. [Able to ping to Router IP i.e. 192.168.0.1)
Similarly, from Linux box, ping to Router IP is working [LAN plugged] but, Internet not working. IP of linux machine: 192.168.0.60
Also, able to get the console connection of Linux from Windows box..[Windows connected to Router via WiFi and Linux connected to Router via LAN cable]
Please suggest how to get rid of this problem so that Internet will work on Linux via LAN cable.
Many Thanks,
I am having a problem when trying to start my Android emulator (versions 2.2 or 2.1 or 4.3).
It says this:
"Starting emulator for AVD 'Android4-3'
ERROR: 32-bit Linux Android emulator binaries are DEPRECATED, to use them
you will have to do at least one of the following:
- Use the '-force-32bit' option when invoking 'emulator'.
- Set ANDROID_EMULATOR_FORCE_32BIT to 'true' in your environment.
Either one will allow you to use the 32-bit binaries, but please be
aware that these will disappear in a future Android SDK release.
Consider moving to a 64-bit Linux system before that happens."
Now, I am launching this Android Virtual Device from a GUI, and I'm actually somewhat confused as to how I'm supposed to find what command to use to to launch the emulator and not the GUI (and more generally, how to find what commands to use in a GUI situation).
Sorry if I missed some important information, I am pretty new to Linux.
I was told Backbox Linux is a refined Kali linux because there is a full OS behind it. Is there a convenient way to download software for it like a software center? I'm really new to it and wanted to explore.
when I boot Linux from a USB drive on my laptop, I am unable to connect to the internet through my wireless on my laptop.
Help Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi all,
I am brand new to Linux, playing around a bit with different things to see how I can use it in the future. Here is my problem:
I have written a simple program in Ada that works well on windows. It opens a TCP port (20000) and listens for incoming connections. I tried it on my internal network and it works well. I can connect from other windows machines and even from my Linux machine.
Now I moved the program to Linux and compiled it there. It starts ok and then listens for the connections. I can connect to it from that same Linux machine but not from any other machine on my network.
I checked the firewall status on Linux with ufw status and it is disabled. I also tried to add a rule to the iptables with
iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 20000 -j ACCEPT
but still nothing. I can not connect from another machine on my network. I also tried to open a simple telnet connection from a windows machine and that too is blocked. I thought without the firewall all incoming connections would be allowed but obviously something is not working as I thought.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
I want to connect my laptop to the TV to view sports etc. but when I plug in the HDMI cable nothing happens, the program just continues on the laptop. I am using Xubuntu and am completely new to Linux
Hello guys thanks for helping. I solved the problem by going to Display in Settings and selecting "Configure new displays on connecting". This enabled the TV when I plugged in the HDMI cable. Thanks again. Liam
