Expand Filesystem

dear all. i do have an image of a system with all the settings and i got it flashed to the new drives (cf, sd, hard disk....). the problem i am facing is that the original image is 2GB and it does not see the whole space of the disk. now everytime that i have to expand it i mount it to another system and through gparted i do system expansion.
I came across raspberry and i have seen the raspi-config(https://www.raspberrypi.org/document...aspi-config.md) they do have and it is really cool. it has a function to expand the partition without user interference.
is there a way to have a tool like this in debian 6 or 7 so i could call it and expand the partition?

Creating A Mount Point For A Partition From Live USB

Hello all,

I was working through LFS 7.7 Chp 2.4 and mounted a wrong partition to /mnt/lfs.
I did the following commands while trying to mount the correct LFS partitions:
mount -v -t ext4 /dev/sda8 /mnt/lfs
mount -v -t ext4 /dev/sda9 /mnt/lfs/home
but I was supposed to mount sda11 and sda 12.

Now the system won't boot past the splash screen. I tried booting into a live usb and typed in the following commands
mount -v -t ext4 /dev/sda8 /
mount -v -t ext4 /dev/sda9 /home
but the system still won't boot past the splash screen.
Both gparted and the partition manager for the installer don't show a mount point.

How do I create a mount point from USB or is there another problem/solution?

Hard Disk Damaged?

I tried to install Debian 8 and 7 but I get error message at partitioning stage:

"Failed to create a file system
The ext4 file system creation in partition #1 of SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda) failed."

After that I couldn't advance further.

I booted from a live Debian and the HardDisk actually shows there with some older files on it.

I tried to install even Windows but from the start it shows the computer doesn't have a Hard Disk Drive so the installation stops right at the start.

Any ideas what is wrong and is there any fix?

Guys i think this is a pretty common problem but i am facing it and i am unable to find a solution (

So here is what happened. I performed dual booting into through Xubuntu10.4 and this will happen because i wanted to increase the memory of my Xubuntu platform.

I removed some space from my C drive and with the free space, i created another partition which then causes this problem.

I Am Trying To Install Mukulu Linux On A Desktop That Has XP On It .

I have followed all the instructions I have got from the net and made boot-able DVD's and USB sticks several different ways as people advise. I have done the same with Mint 17. I have created a partition (26G) and follow the install instructions 1: English 2:Has at least 7.4G available drive space. 4: Is connected to the internet. 5: Here it shows a page where I think it should display the drive options (but does not) If I push the "install now" button it comes up with an error "No root file system is defined --Please correct this from the partitioning menu" I close the installer and look at the drives in GParted and they are all there and the one I created for Linux is PARTITION - /dev/sda4 FILE SYSTEM - ext4
MOUNT POINT - /media/makulu/0C43086E0C43086E LABEL - Lin
SIZE - 26.02 GB USED - 590.07 Mb UNUSED - 24.44 GB FLAG - (blank)
No indication on how to fix the "No root file system" problem. I have tried so many bits of advise that I am beginning to think that I may be better of sticking to windows (perish the thought)

Xubuntu MBR Partioning Question

I was wondering if I can repair my current partitioning setup using gparted, or if I should just reload Xubuntu. Basically I screwed up by making the primary partition only 256M, and made a massive extended logical partition for everything else, and did not leave swap space. I am doing this on an older PC with MBR, dual processor, 2G RAM each processor, 160GB hard drive space. It is single boot, no Windows. How Do I Recover Data From Lost Partition

Booted my computer with 2 USB flash drives inserted. One of the drives turned out to be an MS-DOS boot drive. The PC booted in DOS and wiped out the partition table of the other flash drive with my data on it. This second (64Gb) drive had a single 64Gb type 83 (Linux) primary partition (ext4 file system).

Is there a way to recover the data that's on the second stick?

I've been told that all I have to do is repartition it exactly as it was and my data will be there. But I'd like to have advice from the pros here before I start messing with it.

For the time being, I dd-ed the entire stick, as is, onto a blank partition of my hard disk (dd if=/dev/sdb of=/dev/sda14). The process completed without errors but /dev/sda14 is unmountable for the moment.

Now i want to _shrink_ the HOME partition so I can expand my VAR partition. Looked for guides but haven't found any site useful so far

I tried to find a way to do it when I installed it but it didn't seem to offer me this at this time even I looked around for a while.

How do I do this shrinking of HOME and extending of VAR partition??
please be fairly specific as Im not a pro yet

Help: Can't Seem To Access All Of My HDD Partitions.....

I recently wiped Windows 8 off my laptop and installed Linux Mint; I selected the 'wipe everything/install Linux Mint' option, and I've got Mint working....but:

My Mint partition is about 45GB; it's a 1TB drive, and I've got a partition or two that I can't seem to do anything with. I can't expand my Mint partition; I've tried putzing around with the other partition and split it into two, but I can only look at them, can't save things to them. When I use Dolphin and put in a test file with just some random text on one then reboot my computer, it's gone.

When I do an ls -al command on either /media folder on either partition, there's also a + sign at the very end of the listing (drwx...+) and I don't know what that means or signifies.


I'm obviously not hurting for space on my main Mint partition, but it would be nice to have the whole drive, of course. Does anyone have any notion of what I did wrong and how I might be able to 'open up' my partitions in order to get that space back/useable? I'm not averse to reinstalling/wiping everything and starting again; also, I'd goofed something up when trying to dual-boot Win8 and Mint, so I just decided to wipe everything and stick with Mint solo. I had an instance where I was only able to bring up the 'grub rescue' prompt, whereupon I'd simply reinstalled Mint from the DVD, so I wonder if that has anything to do with it.....
