Fun Kali Linux Exploits?

I was just wondering if anybody could help me with searching for some sort of remote connection exploit besides reverse_tcp? I am quite bored right now and am looking to learn more.

Kali Or Debian

OK, so I am taking Cyber security classes at my college, and I am getting myself into pen testing and stuff of that sort (but still completely a newbie). I am deciding between what OS I want for my laptop < Debian or Kali >. I know Kali is used mostly for security field type work, but I would also like to be able to practice on my Developing skills to. would kali os be a good choice for me or would debian be a better choice for security/development? I have met a few security professionals who keep telling me that real professionals use whatever os they want and just build their own tools?

Installing Linux Alongside Windows 8 (For Now) Question

Good day everyone,

I'm currently a student and as far as I'm aware I still need windows for some program I need, but I am going over to Linux.
(Thus I'm running Windows 8 at this moment)

Today I was going to install Ubuntu 14.04.01 alongside Windows 8, everything went well till I hit the 4th step (Installation type page) of the installation:

A message like follows showed:
"This computer currently has Debian GNU/Linux (Kali Linux 1.0.7) on it. What would you like to do?"

There are then 3 options available:
1) Install Ubuntu alongside Debian GNU/Linux (Kali Linux 1.0.7)
2) Replace Debian GNU/Linux (Kali Linux 1.0.7) with Ubuntu
3 and 4 is greyed out.
5) Something else (You can create resize partitions yourself, or choose multiple partitions for Ubuntu.

I just want to make sure what option to choose, I cant afford to lose all my data and windows.

Problem: Showing Kali Linux as current OS and not Windows 8.

Possible reason for showing Kali Linux as current OS:
I have a live CD of Kali Linux and ran it a few times in the past, but according to my knowledge it shouldn't have changed anything.

Maybe the 1st option is still the right one even though the current OS isn't listed right? Or the 3rd option is like a manual setting I guess.

Thanks for the time reading and helping!

How To Change IP Address Of Remote Machine?

Hi all

This is bothering me too much, please tell me how to change IP address of remote machine while using ssh successfully.

I follow these steps:
1. connect to remote server using 'ssh root@server'
2. Edit '/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0' file
3. issue 'service network restart' command... (at this point ssh connection gets hanged)
4. Break from hanged ssh connection (<ENTER>~.)
5. Wait for some time to let service restart
6. Then finally, ssh with new ip address.

All is fine, but last time, i did something wrong while assigning new IP address, and after service restart, remote server didn't get new ip address - and now i cant connect to remote server.

Fortunately, i had a friend there, who helped me correct the problem so that i can connect again.

But what to do when there is no one to help? Is there other way i should approach this problem?

Thanks

Hi, I'm trying to run an executable file on a remote server using Putty? I downloaded PuTTY and connected through the Putty Configuration window with the SSH connection type selected. Once I connected, the cmd window disappeared so I assume I'm connected. Now I want to run an executable file on the remote server.

How can I run an executable file on my remote Linux server using Putty?

Thanks for any help with this.

Hello Everyone

I just wanted to say hi, I am a linux newbie, and enjoying it. I've had a handful of classes and I have a couple decent sandboxes (VMware & VB) with about 6 distros (Kali, Ubuntu desktop & Serv, CentOS, Gentoo, OpenSuse and Slackware). I've been working on my Bachelors in Information Security Management and hopefully headed to grad school next winter.

I love the pen-testing with Kali which has been a prime focus for the past couple years but being confined to a classroom I learn only so much. Which brought me here.

I tend to lurk more than post. I have been lurking for the past couple years and I really like how helpful everyone seems to be, so thanks for the help you didn't know you were giving

(Kali Linux User Only) .bashrc File Is Messed Up.

Could someone that is using Kali Linux please send me their bash.rc file?! I accidently screwed mine up and I can't reset it back to default. Thanks.

Direct Connection Via Ethernet

Hi I am not a complete Linux newbie, but I have a challenge that is new to me.

I am wanting to be able to connect to a linux box (Raspberry Pi running Debian) via ssh directly from a single computer. I want to be able to plug in a ethernet cable from a laptop to the Raspberry Pi so that I can configure it via ssh or a webpage.

I have had a few pieces of hardware, routers, printers etc that allow this sort of connection for configuration, I just would like to know how it is done.

My question is how do I set up the /etc/interfaces file to allow the Raspberry Pi to be found by the laptop.

Once configured I would want the Raspberry Pi to obtain its IP address via DHCP when connected to a network.

Any suggestions, ideas would be appreciated.
