Hi all ,
How i can disable temporarily screensaver on slackware?
When i watch some clips on youtube or movies it always goes in screensaver after some time if i dont touch the mouse.
Hi - I have the most aggravating problem. On my RHEL 5.2 w/s using gnome (or KDE), if you select "lock screen" from the pulldown and then try to unlock the screen with your password you logged in successfully with in the first place, it comes back shaking it's head INCORRECT PASSWORD. I did some digging and the /var/log/secure file is spitting out:
gnome-screensaver-dialog: pam_unix(gnome-screensaver:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=500 euid=500 tty=0.0 ruser= rhost= user=username
Then below that also:
gnome-screensaver-dialog: pam_unix(gnome-screensaver:auth): auth could not identify password for [username]
I find this is happening on a few of my other RHEL systems too: RHEL 5.5, 6.0, and 6.5.
Help!
How do I disable the screensaver in mint?
How can I have a continually changing screensaver of My Pictures as I did with WindowsXP?
I use Firefox 16 for my automation and it uses gconfd internally.
Is there a way to disable firefox from using gconfd. It writes a lot of data into saved_state which is leading to crashing total usage of CPU.
I have found –disable-gconf
but not sure how to compile firefox with that command
Is there a way to disable log messages from gconf?
Hi all
How do I disable permanently/temporarily copying of files in background? Often while copying many files to usb drive, the message is displayed as 'copying finished'. But when I try to safely remove usb drive, a message pops up like saying 'finishing job... do not unplug usb drive'. And I have to keep looking at the circling animation waiting for it to finish. Some time it takes too long and it is difficult to know whether it hanged or actually doing job in background? Same-thing while copying in terminal too - no difference.
Its same in most of the linux distros I've tried. How do I solve this?
Thanks
I would like to use a hibernate function on my Debian 7.7 OS.
There is a debian tutorial about this - but I'm not an experienced system administrator so it's a bit difficult to understand.https://wiki.debian.org/Hibernation/...Swap_Partition
I have finally decided to create a swap file rather than a swap partition for the sake of simplicity.
I have 2gb RAM and am a normal user - so I think I can set the 'swappiness' to low so that the swap file is used mainly for hibernation.
Can anyone please point me to somewhere where I can install the hibernate function onto a debian/ubuntu distro?
Also, I would've thought that a dpkg could have been written which simplifies this process with the use of a GUI.
In fact, additional functions such as screensaver and wallpaper changer would make the dpkg very useful.
However, any help on creating hibernation on my OS would be really great.
Thank you.
I have been trying to get TurnerClassicMovie site to play any movies/videos on my AMD equipped, proprietary drivers up to date. I can only make the movies show in the first small frame within FireFox 34-37 that i have tried.
I have installed flash and it is updated as well as pepperflashplugin-nonfree and all the other instructional posts i read either here or just via a google across all the Linux/Mint hits. at first , i was not even able to sign into the cable subscription page, once that got solved then it has taken a month worth of intermittent trying to finally figure out how to get the movie playing ,BUT-
as soon as i try to open the full screen, i get adobe Flash pop ups and then it all hangs. I hve begun to see Error 503 some kind of Apache problem a generic error from what i have found.also a cant Sync
I have tried to do something with the busy port -800, tried to add another port only because i read a post that might have had something to do with the issue. or maybe not. didnt work yet
I am just stuck with this.
I am able to play all other videos i want,it seems, you tube and all html5s. I got rid of Ntflx a year ago so never tried with that.
I am able to use my Win7x64 Ultimate firefox with no troubles at all
I tried to use chromium in MInt17.1 Mate with no luck at all, it just wont do a thing and kicks off about 10separate process as it does nothing.
I have a Xinerama on , no tear amd set up-chromium will not even draw any window under the title page on the bigger screen monitor-both of which are 1920x1080--forgot to mention that i have Wine 1.6 i think , updated , as well as pipe-light per other linux/mint how to forums

I am using Suse 12 Enterprise.
I would like to use sftp and disable ftp.
Presently I am able to do both.
I stopped vsftpd.service.
Tried comment on ports 20 & 21 in /etc/services.
Stop FTP server using YAST.
Stopped xinetd tftp service using YAST.
Is it wise to turn this service off?
How do I display the status for sftp and ftp?
I am still able to ftp.
Where is the kill switch?
