Terminal-table/table Terminal - What Is It?

I am reading a gnuplot pdf FAQ. In section 3.13 it says: "This requires you to write contours into a temporary file using the table terminal." Then I google and all I get is terminal-table. It says: install terminal-table by applying this command:

Quote:
$ sudo gem install terminal-table
What is it all about? What is a table terminal? What is a terminal-table? It looks like terminal table is to print tables in a terminal, right?

Thanks, - A.

Ipad Terminal App

Hi guys, my computer is downstairs in the cold basement and I wanted a way to practice my online terminal course in the comfort of my rocking chair upstairs in the pleasant surroundings. I downloaded a terminal app for the iPad and it's asking me for some info. Could any of you tell me where to find it please?

Host - I typed in host name into the terminal and it gave me the details at the prompt.

Username - which username? Do I make one up or the username for the computer I'm trying to log into? How do I find the username?

Password - which password? The one to log into my home?

I guess these things work via some network/ remote thingy??????? It's not bluetooth so Im guessing I need to somehow log into that computer as a guest or admin or something?

Why ./home/Desktop Is Incorrect And ./Desktop Is Correct?

I'm learning about Linux, started yesterday. I have a question which didn't clear from the book and Google. The question is what is the difference between ./ and / in terminal? I'm asking this because when i give command for example - ./home/yogesh/Desktop/Books it is showing bash: ./home/yogesh/Desktop : No such file or directory but on removing the dot it's showing /home/yogesh/Desktop/Books: Is a directory.
Again on giving command like /Desktop it showing /Desktop :No such file or directory but on adding dot before / it is giving ./Desktop: is a directory.
What is the difference between ./ and / ?
I'm sorry if i asked something foolish but I have to know it anyway. Thankyou in advance and sorry for my bad English.

Need Better Upload Strategy

Trying to get my website set up, and not hang myself in the process!!

So, last night I was able to upload my website's DB from my laptop to my VPS using CyberDuck.

Being new to all of this, I uploaded the .sql file to...
Code:
/home/rob123/public_ftp/

Then I used MySQL to install the upload script.

That went well, but now I have this naked script floating around on my VPS!

How can I delete this .sql file and be 100% certain that it is NOT lingering somewhere else on the server, and that it CANNOT be recovered??

(For those of you who have followed my threads, I am *very* worried about files and login credentials and passwords getting stored in places that they shouldn't!!!)

Also, in retrospect I am thinking it wasn't so smart to upload my DB to a public folder like that.

In the future, what is a better way to upload sensitive files to my VPS to maintain complete Privacy and Security??

Oh the stress of it all!!!

Sincerely,

Rob

Change SSH Font Color In Terminal?

Guys,
Is there a way to change the font color, within my local terminal, every time I SSH into another machine?

I know I can set it up on each individual remote machine by adding something to my bashrc file. But, I ssh into 50 or so machines and would prefer not to ssh into each individual one. There may not be another way though?

TIA!

More Command

hi guys, im having terminal trouble.

i have a libre word file called lintest.odt in the Documents directory (folder). I want to move it to the Libre directory (folder).

Desktop Downloads Libre Pictures Templates
Documents home Music Public Videos

from the root directory i typed cd Documents and then pwd and I got
/home/francis/Documents
i then typed ls and i got lintest.odt

I then typed mv lintest Libre and it says

mv: cannot stat ‘lintest’: No such file or directory

what am I doing wrong?

when i try to see the contents of the lintest file with more lintest
I got ~/Documents$ more lintest.odt
PK
F^2^L'
--More--(0%)
and then it locks up the terminal.

im obviously doing something dreadfully wrong.

File Upload From Putty To A Secured Website

->Need to upload a file from Unix box(Putty) to a website.

->Tried Wget and curl to upload a file to that website, when ever i am trying to fire the command its redirecting to Login page.

->for this purpose i have used cookies option to pass the Login information next time, but its giving empty cookie file and returning entire HTML page.

->used various options like redirecting, load cookies, for wget and curl, but everything is going in vain.

->Normally browser login process for that website is :

1.Login page www.example1.com/login and provide username and password
2.redirected to another URL www.example2.asp and after clicking on a folder icon.
3.it is getting redirected to another URL www.example3.com/folders.do?id=12433434324

i have to upload the file in the third URL and to a particular folder in that page, folders are containing different ids.

Please share your knowledge on this and provide solution as best as you can ,thanks

File Transfer Through UART Between Linux Host And Embedded Linux Target

Hi,

I have a target board running embedded Linux, and a host PC that runs Ubuntu. I want to be able to transfer files from the host PC to the target board through serial interface, (something like I have a terminal program on the host side that talks to the target, and I issue some command from the terminal to transfer a file to the target, the target receive the file and store it in some RAM location for later), How can I do it?
I know how to do this using ymodem on the host terminal and loady on target's u-boot command prompt, but how can I do it when target is running Linux?

Thank you all,
Wei
