Unable to use Terminal because I have forgotten my sudo password.
Hi all,
I have a script where every line needs to be prefixed with sudo.
I was advised to run it as $ sudo /path/to/file.sh
This script needs to be scheduled in crontab to run. If I run it as above, will I be prompted for a password?
Also, one of the lines in the script is;
scp -r root@rem_server:/source/dir /local/dir
Does that mean I will have to provide two passwords: one for sudo and one for root?
Thanks,
I found an old laptop that has centos 5.5 installed. I reset the root password, but I need to reset the gui password. Is there a way to view this password or reset it? I have not worked with Linux over 5 years and am rusty on all the commands
is there a way via terminal to reset the username and password for my router?
i have recently started working with the terminal and in order to use ssh im going to need to download some software and enter the username and password for the router which i havent a clue what it is. im not sure i ever set the username and password on it????
if i could re make the username and password for my router i would then be able to get this ssh working.
or is this not possible?

Hello,
I am getting the follwoing error for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.6
sudo su -
sudo: >>> /etc/sudoers: syntax error near line 118 <<<
sudo: parse error in /etc/sudoers near line 118
sudo: no valid sudoers sources found, quitting
sudo: unable to initialize policy plugin
cd /etc/sudoers.d/
-bash: cd: /etc/sudoers.d/: Permission denied
Could you help me to figure it out. As a root user am able to access but as normal user it is not allowing to sudo su - command.
vi /etc/sudoers.d/access
username ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL
Please let me know if any additional formation required.
I am using debian 7.7 stable and when I open the root terminal it asks for the password.
But if I open it again, I get the message: 'Granted permissions without asking for password. The /usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator program was started with the privileges of the root user without the need to ask for a password, due to your system's authentication mechanism setup'.
Oh, really? Because I don't remember setting up any 'authentication mechanism setup'.
How can I change this so the root terminal always asks for the password?
Do I have a trojan already? Because I installed the OS just a few days ago.
Thanks very much.
Hi all. I can't connect to my Win 8.1 box from Linux Mint. I can ping the Win box successfully. I can access my Linux share from my Win box. It seems like the problem is with windows. I've been working on this problem for about three days now with no luck. I've uninstalled Norton Security in my Win box. I've deactivated Microsoft's firewall. Not helping. My smb.conf is:
[homes]
read only = no
security = domain
workgroup = WORKGROUP
[share]
comment = Shared Data
path = /home/gary/share
gues ok = yes
writeable = no
browseable = yes
To make things simple i created only one shared folder on my Win box, asm. On Linux i type: sudo mount.cifs //GARYZ97/asm /home/gary/share -o user=Gary ; Gary is apparently my correct Windows username. BTW, i've also tried gary.
Linux responds with: [sudo] password for gary: jj ; this is my correct sudo password
Next response is: Password for Gary@//GARYZ97/asm: ; here i have tried my Microsoft Account password; i've tried just hitting enter; i've tried jj my Linux password. I'm at my wits end. What am i doing wrong? I've googled so many different sites but no one seems to have the problem i have. Please help. I don't want to pull out all my hair. I can access my Linux share from Windows, edit it, save it, and i see the changes on my Linux box. I know i'm being repetitive here but i just can't access my Windows share from Linux. I have run testparm on smb.conf and no problems there. Almost forgot. After entering what i believe is my correct Windows password i get: mount error(115): Operation now in progress, and then on the next line, Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)
I need to be able to create new user accounts and make sure they're forced to reset their password upon first login, also if they don't log in within 4 days of the account creation their account must automatically lock. How do I accomplish this?
thank you.
Hi,
After a long time of about 5 months without my PC and Win7 which I havent had the time to really check out whats wrong with / I am back on a slow laptop with 256 of RAM, PIIIM on 1113MHz which I had for years, and tried out a few lighweight distros after getting rid of Win XP.
Now, I am running on anti x which I found to be a great OS, speedwise as it could be on such a slow machine.
My problem though is I forgot my root pass and my user pass which seem to be different from each other because I remember I could use terminal to update but not the antix Control Center which keeps asking me for a different pass. Any help in getting the both back so I wouldn't have to re-install and before doing a re-install doing a backup?
It's a pain in the ass, since I basically use(d) this laptop for writing, and there are files of plenty.
Ty in advance.
Cheers and good luck!
