Hello, I'm trying to get bumblebee to work running Ubuntu 15.04.
I've followed this guide to get to the point I am now, but I'm getting an error that I couldn't even google the way out of it.
This is what I get from demencia@demencia-laptop:~$ primusrun glxinfo | grep OpenGL
primus: fatal: Bumblebee daemon reported: error: [XORG] (EE) Failed to load module "mouse" (module does not exist, 0)
But I was told that that error is not really important that I should have a look at my /var/log/Xorg.8.log, where I found my dead end.
Here's my /var/log/Xorg.8.log
file.
Any ideas?
Hello everyone im new here and it is my first post, im using slackware 14.1 x64 on an alienware m11xR2 and im havin trouble with Nvidia drivers.
I tried binary and package installations with bumblebee.
Nothing works, GLX doesn't work and after making "nvidia-xconfig" X doesn't start.
I remove the xorg.conf and then X starts but without nvidia and GLX.
Can someone help me ?
Oh, and im french so sorry for my bad english.

Hey, I'm having a bit trouble getting this working right.
I'm using mate desktop and lightdm
my .xinitrc only contains exec "mate-session"
Xorg file
http://pastebin.com/ipBMwT38
I can login to another X session fine, and start mate desktop with startx. This defeats the purpose of running a seperate X for games though...
steam launches fine from terminal, but my keyboard or mouse doesn't work.
Also in Xorg I enabled coolbits = 24 still can't use NVclock to adjust anything even though it detects my video card details fine.
I installed bumblebee and the resolutions complete shit, how can I fix this? also it still is extremely slow when playing games such as tf2. I feel like this only made it worse.
On a fresh install of Arch with little more than openbox installed when I try to startx as a regular user this is the feedback I get:
xauth: timout in locking authority file /home/tim/.Xauthority
xauth: timout in locking authority file /home/tim/.Xauthority
xauth: timout in locking authority file /home/tim/.Xauthority
xauth: timout in locking authority file /home/tim/.Xauthority
Fatal server error:
(EE) cannot open log file "/home/tim/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log"
xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: server error
xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/tim/.Xauthority
After looking into the error someone suggested to copy the file from root user. When I try to view, less, or open the file I get strange feedback "magic cookie" and then everything starts to trip out and I cant seem to reverse it without a reboot.
Hi, I am a newbie but tried to be overly smart. This is a brand new installation of Linux Mint dual booting with Windows 8.1 on an inexpensive but new notebook (Dell inspiron 14 - 3451).
Well, I read a tutorial and added a keymap after editing 5 files.
All these files are at /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules:
xorg.xml, xorg.lst, evdev.xml, base.xml, base.list
The symbols file is:
/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/lk
Now I get this error:
===============================
Error activating XKB configuration.
There can be various reasons for that.
If you report this situation as a bug, include the results of
• xprop -root | grep XKB
• gsettings get org.gnome.libgnomekbd.keyboard model
• gsettings get org.gnome.libgnomekbd.keyboard layouts
• gsettings get org.gnome.libgnomekbd.keyboard options
===============================
I went through the files for errors, found some and fixed them (I think). Still this same error pops up when I try to add the new layout. How do I do what the message tells me to do (in order to get help)?
May be I'll get some idea if I see the 'results' it is talking about.
But what does it mean by, for example, 'xprop -root | grep XKB'? Must be some console command, but I do not know even how to do that.
Any help or hint is gratefully appreciated.
Thanks.
Just installed unbuntu version 4.3.11(1)-release (x86_64-pc-linux-gnu). Wanted to set up another monitor with an usb vga adapter from j5create. Found this post http://how-to.cc/get-a-displaylink-v...h-ubuntu-12-04. Installed apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-displaylink -> got no green screen on reboot. Created X configuration file...nothing. Looked around some websites were telling me to install: sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg got:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
unity-control-center : Depends: libcheese-gtk23 (>= 3.4.0) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libcheese7 (>= 3.0.1) but it is not going to be installed
E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.
First time I am trying Unbuntu getting already a little frustrated
OK,
Lastnight I decided to finally attempt to install the dedicated ATI/AMD Catylist drivers. After all I was successfull with the HP drivers, right...
No matter which grub selection I make, getting in is broken, except of course for the Windows XP Pro x64 entry, that works just fine. I'm here with you today, because of the Fedora 21 Live DVD, (slooooww).
Here is the drivers log file:

I just rebooted without attempting to configure the card, as per the ATI/AMD warning stating that it's important to do so, because my thinking was derailed due to seeing errors, and the install program said I needed to reboot. Afterall, I just couln't believe that with a "Failed to compile kernel module" error, it would actually keep the changes I'd made, that surely Linux had a failsafe in place for such circumstances. In other words, I'm also a newbie, and just don't know how many hoops of fire one has to jump through to be at peace with linux.
Can anyone please help be get back into my install, I've already set up so many things, there's just got to be a way, right?
Thanks in Advance!

Using a Kingston 4GB datatraveler for drive creation
Created using amd64 1.1.0a of the Kali ISO verified from Kali.org
Drive created using Ubuntu 14.04 on a Dell Latitude E5500
dd seems to create the drive with no errors. The drive boots to the error. Hard reboot into Ubuntu to search for solution has led me to a long series of issues that I have been trying to correct.
A possible fix for the failed to load error is to copy the file to the root of the USB drive (/dev/sdb1). Drive is created with a hidden HPFS/ NTFS fs. 0x17. Changed FS to HPFS/NTS (0x07). Drive now mounts, but when attempting to copy onto drive, I get an error that the file system is read only.
I try to correct the issue using nautilus and the properties menu. It does not allow me to change the view only to read/write even though it shows me as the owner.
I think maybe a command line thing would work, or who knows what else. Maybe an fstab entry? I am continuing to search the web, and hope to work this out.
Any help would be appreciated.
I have a vps with Ubuntu 12.04 that I'm in the process of configuring. I have configued samba and been able to mount a share from my local computer to my samba share on my remote vps.
The issue is that when I go into the Samba server module and I click start, stop or restart it has no effect what so ever. I can ssh into the terminal and run $ sudo service smbd start and that will work (as well as stop/restart). However it will not work within Webmin.
I then went to the module configuration and changed the start command to: service smbd start and the same for the stop command (with "stop" though).
I then when to System > Running processes and saw that smbd is running however the list is showing "is running now" as NO. I click the start/stop button within this section and it doesn't work again.
Can anyone please help me figure this out?
