Perl Script Not Running Via Cron

Hi All,

I have perl script which I am trying to run on 1st Monday via cron job.
So I scheduled it as follows:

0 0 1-7 * * root ["$(date '+%a')" = "Mon"] && /usr/bin/perl script.pl

But then it didn't run so checked cron log and it seemed like its missing the command. so added a \ in front of %a and then it picked up the whole command as per cron log.

But still it didnt ran the script. I then change the script to just && echo "test">/tmp/test

Still nothing. if I run it as /usr/bin/perl script.pl it runs though

Thanks in advance.

How To Return From Shell 'read' Command Passed In Expect Script?

I have a shell script that calls an expect script I wrote to ssh login to another host and get user input regarding that host's network configuration. I pass four arguments to the expect script: the remote host ip address, the username, the password, and the list of commands to run. My expect script is below:

#!/usr/bin/expect
# Usage: expectssh <host> <ssh user> <ssh password> <script>

set timeout 60
set prompt "(%|#|\\$) $"
set commands [lindex $argv 3];

spawn ssh [lindex $argv 1]@[lindex $argv 0]

expect {
"*assword:" {
send -- "[lindex $argv 2]\r"
expect -re "$prompt"
send -- "$commands\r"
}

"you sure you want to continue connecting" {
send -- "yes\r"
expect "*assword:"
send -- "[lindex $argv 2]\r"
expect -re "$prompt"
send -- "$commands\r"
}

timeout {
exit }

expect -re $prompt
send -- "exit\r"
}

The script runs well, except that if I send a command such as 'read' that requires user input, the script does not continue or exit after the user presses enter. It just hangs.

The commands I pass to the expect script and it's call are as follows:
SCRIPT='hostname > response.txt;netstat -rn;read net_card?"What is the network interface card number? " >> response.txt; read net_mask?"What is the subnet mask? " >> response.txt'

/usr/bin/expect ./expectssh.exp $hostip $usr $pswd "$SCRIPT"

Any suggestions on how I can pass a command to my expect script that requires user input without it hanging?

On a side note because I know it will come up - I am not allowed to do key-based automatic SSH login. I have to prompt for a username and password, which is done from my main shell script.

Thanks for any suggestions and help you can provide!

Sending SMB Client Commands Through Shell Script

Hello.

I have a shell script, which I am using to access the SMB Client:

Code:
#!/bin/bash
cd /home/username
smbclient //link/to/server$ password -W domain -U username
recurse
prompt
mput baclupfiles
exit

Right now, the script runs, accesses the server, and then asks for a manual input of the commands.

Can someone show me how to get the commands:
Code:
recurse, prompt, mput baclupfiles and exit

to be run by the shell script please?

Best Way To Run Two Interdependent Scripts

Hi All,

I have two scripts, the aim of these two scripts is, to check whether a particular script is running or not, if it wont runs, then throw a mail.

How i Achieved this output is, I wrote first script.

I created an infinite while loop which performs below steps

1. It creates a touch file
2. Triggers the script which needs to be monitored if its working or not.
3. Removes the touch file.

If the second step fails, then the remove file command will not happen and the script will stuck there itself.

I created an another script which checks the creation time of the touch file and if it is more than ten minutes, it means the second step in the first script is hanged, which also means that particular script is not working.

So if the creation time is more than 2 minutes the second script will throw a mail.

Below are the two scripts.

Code:
#!/bin/ksh

userid="chansd"

filename="/apps/log/check.txt"

while true ;do
touch $filename
pass=`/apps/eDMZ/call_st.ksh $userid`
sleep 20
rm $filename
done

Below script checks the file creation time and throws email if it is older than 2 minutes
Code:
#!/bin/ksh

filename="/apps/log/check.txt"

if [ -f "${filename}" ]
then
if test "`find $filename -mmin +2`"
then
echo "script is not working ! Please act on it" | mail -s "Script is not working" Example@mail.com
fi

else

        exit 1

fi

What im going to do is

1. I am going to run the first script in background so it runs forever.
2. I am going to run the second script in cron forevry 5 mins to check the file creation time.

3. So if the first script hangs . I will kill the process using process id and after the issue resolves with the inner script, I will run the main script again.

I am new to Linux, Please let me know if this approach will work as expected.

Bash More Commands In One Function

hello

first year of learning linux and bash script
Now i wrote a bash script with a function.
Today i recieved a email from my teacher that 1 function only can have 1 command and no more then 1?

thats a part of the script

Code:
function tx_unreachable_msg()
{
LOGLINE="[$DATE] no ip service unreachable"
typewriter "$NOIPSERVICE niet bereikbaar" .1
sleep 1
typewriter "Mail wordt verzonden naar $email" .1
mail -s "NO ip mail error" "$email"<<EOF
dynupdate.no-ip.com niet bereikbaar @ $DATE
EOF
}

it's part dutch part english but the point is that the first LOGLINE is forbidden in the function because i use the functie to send a mail end not to write a logline but that's a part of the command in my case?

So what does this function?
If the no ip service is unreachable then it's write to /etc/var/log/no-ip and after the sleep it's send a simpel mail to the adres in the variabele mail.

i read here at the first line:
Quote:
Shell functions are a way to group commands for later execution using a single name for the group.
so is it true that my function is wrong and so no can someone point me to a website where it's say that more commands are allow in 1 function0

what I have to do ??

User Permitted To Run Command,execute Program As Root And After Execution, Exit Root

when a command is typed(i.e. /path/to/the/program), as a normal user, he should be able to run that command , execute that program as ROOT and log out root after the execution is completed.
Only one user should be able to do it.
Hence, I have created a new user vj and added the following command in visudo:
Code:
vj ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /path/to/the/program

Now user vj will be able to typein the command.

What I need is that the program which is been called must run as if it is run by a root user,and when the program is completely executed, exit the root user.

How do I proceed?

Lsof -i Issue

Hello,

I would like to use the lsof -i command without a privilege elevated user, however it doesn't work, the output is null. It does only work when I sudo it. On another server, I've got it working perfectly, without the user being root or having to use sudo (web user). How would I be able to proceed ?
Linux - Ubuntu 14.04.

Thanks.
