Unwanted Recovery Mode Option When Rebooting

In Mint Cinnamon 17.1, every time I reboot, I get an option in GRUB to boot into recovery mode. I have to then manually select normal (not recovery mode) booting, after which I get to the regular Cinnamon desktop. This started happening after the computer froze one time and I had to power it off, but it happens every time I reboot now. Bottom line: on reboot, I need to go through an extra, unnecessary step of selecting normal, rather than recovery, mode. Does anyone know how to get rid of this recovery mode option in GRUB?

Toshiba A205-S4577 Will Not Boot.

I have a Toshiba laptop that will not boot. I get to the grub menu which gives me the option to load Ubuntu, Ubuntu recovery mode, or a couple of memory tests.

If I select Ubuntu I get a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner.

Selecting recovery mode gives me a lot of messages with the last one being "EDD information not available".

The memory test option does not return any errors.

If I try booting Mint from a bootable DVD I get the Mint screen and then it goes gray with a flashing cursor in the top left corner.

Any suggestions?

Cursor/ Screen Flashing During Login In Kali Linux

hello there,
OK here is the problem;
Whenever I try to start my laptop the grub menu loads as usually, it starts booting but upon completion, there is this blinking cursor and screen and then nothing. It started when I logged out of one of my account and logged into Root account and again logged out of the root account. That was the time when this thing started.
I dont know what happened. I researched, found lots of threads but with no help..
There is no any graphics card in the laptop. (so couldnt be a driver issue i think)
Edited the grub ( quite splash nomodeset, etc etc,, but didnt work )
I really dont know what to do at this stage,
P.S i am a noob though.

Black Screen When Trying To Install Linux On Acer Aspire V5-573G

Hi folks,

after googling for a couple of days, I get the feeling, this is a common problem. But the usual fix doesn't seem to work for me.

I am trying to install Linux on a separate partition of my Acer Aspire V5-573G. I used the Lili USB Creator to make a bootable USB drive with Ubuntu 12.04 on it.

when I reach the installation menu, it doesn't matter what I choose (start live, install..), my notebook will always freeze on a black screen.

I figured out how to add 'nomodeset' to the grub line. This does bring me one step further (the Ubuntu start screen) but then I get this message:

Code:
ubuntu@ubuntu:^^$ [ 20.267422] mei 0000:00:16.0: init hw failure.
[ 20.267558] mei 0000:00:16.0: initialization failed.

After pressing enter I get a command line. From here I don't know what to do.

I've tried other distros (Lubuntu, Linux Mint), but then even 'nomodeset' didn't make a difference. I have also tried to add 'acpi=off' to the grub line after 'nomodeset', but again only black, even with Ubuntu.

Any suggestion or help will be greatly appreciated!

Anyone Got A Copy Of Acer Aspire 1 Linux V1.0.9 Recovery Disc, Please?

We use the Aspire 1 solely for internet use. A few weeks ago something happened and I needed to make a recovery usb from the dvd provided with the machine. I have done this on previous occasions without issue but now find I can't create the usb and on looking at the dvd find it has a couple of marks on it (all the family denies knowledge). Has anyone got a spare copy of the dvd or has the recovery dvd on a usb, please, to assist an OAP? Best wishes.... Neil
