I Posted To Introduce Myself, But My Message Is Not Taken. Why?

I just registered, activated the account, logged out and back in and edited my profile. Then, I was taken to introduce myself. I wrote a message, clicked on "Preview Post" and it looks OK, so I clicked on "Submit New Thread". I get no errors. It just takes me back to the previous screen, my post is not there and it tells me that the system detects I have never posted anything. Why? I'm hoping this one message will go through.

Thanks in advance...

EDIT: Now I see how much of a newbie I am! A sign was telling me my message was to be checked by a moderator, but it flashed so short, that I couldn't finish reading it until now. There must be a few copies of my introduction pending. Sorry!

Package Operation Failed

Ubuntu 14.10 runs great on my laptop but I think I have dependency problems because EVERY time I install or remove software I get the following error message. However everything seems to run just fine...

"Package operation failed"
"The installation or removal of a software package failed."

...and details shows a massive list of gobbledygook with a lot of:

"insserv: Starting vpnagentd_init depends on rc.local and therefore on system facility `$all' which can not be true!"

I can post the whole message but I'll wait for feedback first.

Cannot Login As A Different User Than The One Created At Installation Time

I have created a new user with "useradd" than changed the password with "passwd" (logged in as an administrator). After that I tried to login as the new user but couldn't. Error message was: "call to lnusertemp failed (temporary directories full?). Check your installation".

I currently use Debian 8.

I checked the home directory and couldn't find a new created folder for the new user (wasn't supposed to be done automatically by useradd?) and I checked the etc/password and there was the new user name inside it though.

What should I do? I really need to have more than one user on this computer...

Ssh Public Key Fingerprint

First time post so I hope it's not too long winded!

I've just installed Centos v7.1 and created an additional user.

First putty session I logged in with root and got the public fingerprint message and clicked Yes to accept.

However I noted when I logged in with the user other I did not get the prompt and my home directory didn't have a .ssh directory.

OK, so I created a .ssh (chmod 700) directory within /etc/skel and created a new user. Logged in with that account and still no prompt, although I do now have a .ssh directory generated.

I've tried deleting the known_hosts files in the root's .ssh directory and restarting the sshd daemon but it's not working.

How do I get it to prompt with original public key again?

Thanks for reading.

Error Message On Boot Up In Fedora 21

Hi Folks,
I am a relative newbie to linux.
I am running Fedora 21 from an external USB Hard Drive and get the following message after Grub has loaded. Any help in resolving this is very much appreciated.

Yum Update Caused Problems

Hello
I installed fedora 18 on an older apple computer (i.e. replaced the operating system with eight cores). To make a long story short, I did a "yum update" which took hours to complete, but when I attempted to restart my system, I now get the Grub boot loader coming up and showing that the fedroa3-11.10-100fc18x86_64 OS is staring up, but then suddenly the screen goes black and I get a weird message:

" radeon 0000:02:0:Invalid Rom content
system[1]:Job multipathd.service/start deleted to bread in g cycle starting with basic./start"

So, I then place on a USB containing the original fedora 18 I installed earlier, but now, I cannot, using the Grub Menu, to locate the usb or the cd option.

I have tried looking at sites on line for help, but so far nothing has worked...

Can someone help me...I am a Newbie.
Thanks

Error Splicing File: Input/output Error

I was copying the contents of a flash drive to a folder. In the middle of it I got an error message:

'Error splicing file: input/output error'

and then it said 'do you want to skip or retry?' And the "all" button was there too. Anyway, I skipped. When I checked the folder, all my data seemed to be there.

Do you think it was?

I mean, what are the implications of the error message and of my "skipping" it?

Next up, when I looked at the contents of my flash drive all the folders and files have a lock icon on them. I can open the files but I can't edit them. And no, the lock switch on my flash drive is not pressed.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

"cinnamon Just Crashed You Are Currently Running In Fallback Mode."

When I installed mint today from cd, I had to use the save-mode because of the nvidia card. So I was aware I had to change driver after install.

Right after install I checked these '10 thing to first do after install'.
http://itsfoss.com/things-to-do-afte...mint-16-petra/
I did these
Improve battery life
Change screensaver timing
Install RAR

Then I checked the driver manager to deal with the graphic driver. I tried all 3 in the driver manager, but with each mint crashes with this message right after login.

Quote:
cinnamon just crashed you are currently running in Fallback Mode
It asks if I want to restart, click 'yes' and it just refreshes the screen with the same message. click 'no' the message goes away but cinnamon does not work.

So I don't know if its crashing because of the driver or because of those things I changed after the install.

I googled some and this issue is all over linux forums, but I can't find a solution anywhere.

Been Having Problems, Need Help With "important" Log Entries, Fedora 21

If I'm loading down the system, i.e., running transmission while playing a video, periodically network throughput drops, video stops, cpu activity jumps up, then after a few seconds to a minute suddenly cpu activity goes back to normal, networking and video resumes. In addition I have this "important" message in the log viewer:

Quote:
systemd-udevd
Error calling EVIOCSKEYCODE on device node '/dev/input/event2' (scan code 0xc0183, key code 226): Invalid argument
There are several lines with varying scan and key codes, the rest being the same.

In addition, a couple weeks ago, I had locked myself out of the system, (boot to black screen), due to a failed attempt at installing the latest AMD/ATI proprietary drivers. Thanks to the help of several people on the forum, I was able to get back in, using the native drivers.

Obviously as a newbie to Linux I don't know if any of these things are related.

I would appreciate any help anyone could give me, TIA!!

My 'first' Question

So, I will post my 'first' question here, being "Why does this forum keep tellling me that I never posted and may ask my first question now, when ideed I alrady posted?"
(Maybe this will count as first post now?)

Testing Tails Distro For The First Time And Unable To Connect To The Internet With It

Hello,
I am trying out a GNU-plus-Linux distribution called "Tails" for the first time. Tails is the distro that provides anonymity for the user by forcing all network traffic to go through the Tor network system. I am testing out Tails version 1.4.
Tails is a live DVD disc. It boots in live mode directly from the DVD and optical drive.
However, once I was booted into the desktop for the first time, it seems to not have been able to automatically find and configure my internet connection.
When I hover the pointer over the twin PC's icon in the system tray at the top right hand corner it says "No network connection".
Then, just to make sure, I opened the "Tor browser" and it gave me an error message that says "The proxy server is refusing connections".
Then to make triple sure, I opened the "Unsafe web browser" and it gave me the error message that says "Error No DNS server was obtained through DHCP or manualy configured in Network Manager".
So as a new user of this distro, I'm not sure on where to go and what to do. So any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
