I have looked at the descriptions of the updates in the update manager but they are really to vague to really understand them. Can someone help me find a place were i can go on the net that can help me find more info and specific details? i am afraid of giving certain people control over my computer certain updates make me feel like i am giving user control to someone else or just leaving it open for everyone
this is the update accountsservice / query and manipulate user account information- shared libraries
Can some tell me what this update really does
Hey
First of all I don't know what I'm doing with Linux. At all. Please help. And please speak very clearly and slowly.
I got this computer second hand and I don't know what version of Linux that is on it. I tried to find out, I was just told Meego. Meego is not an option on Skypes homepage for downloading Skype.
I don't really understand the different versions. I especially don't understand how to install programs and downoad updates. I want to download Skype and a more recent version of Firefox or another browser, but I dont know how.
Information online talks about, and tells me to open my Package Manager. I don't know what this is, and I can't find one on my computer. The closest thing I have is called 'Live Update' but I open that and there is nothing in it.
Please can someone take me through how all this is supposed to work please?!
Thanks
I'm new to Linux and have a question regarding the updating of Linux Kernels.
Should I wait until a kernel update is offered through the update manager, or should I go and get an updated kernel from the update manager/view/linux kernels?
hi there,
i am using linux mint 17.1 cinnamon and find that it is awesome ... however i did update each time that the update manager asked me to ... it was fine until about the 10th time after which insync manager stopped working all of sudden ... some apps like jitsi just failed to install ... also oflate the same happened to my update manager .....please someone help..
thanks in advance ...
When I run update manager in linux Mint Mate why does it give me updates for other desktops in Linux Mint? Is it necessary to download these in Mate? Some are listed as 1 priority. Thanks for any answers to this question.

Hello, i'm new here at the forums and i'm pleased to meet this community, my native language is not english so please be gentle to me with my spelling errors..
I have a question for more experienced users, how the updates are handled by the O.S.? Imagine this solution:
-Debian 7 wheezy
-Apache Tomcat8
-JRE 1.8.0_31
the server is running with apox. 20 users at same time using a web app, if i update the JRE to a newer version what happens? All process that are using JRE 1.8.0_31 stays with the outdate JRE until the next reboot? or it just figure out alone how to use the newer version?
Thank you and sorry for my bad english.
ps.: I want to know what happens to Shared Objects as well.
I try to upgrade the disto currently running in my box:
Description: Debian GNU/Linux 6.0 (squeeze)
Release: 6.0
Codename: squeeze
My sources.list looks like following:
deb http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main
# wheezy-updates, previously known as 'volatile'
deb http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ wheezy-updates main
deb-src http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ wheezy-updates main
After 2 commands:
aptitude update
aptitude upgrade
I have the same old good squeeze.
Help, please
yours`

One of the configured repositories failed (Fedora 20 - x86_64 - Updates),
and yum doesn't have enough cached data to continue. At this point the only
safe thing yum can do is fail. There are a few ways to work "fix" this:
1. Contact the upstream for the repository and get them to fix the problem.
2. Reconfigure the baseurl/etc. for the repository, to point to a working
upstream. This is most often useful if you are using a newer
distribution release than is supported by the repository (and the
packages for the previous distribution release still work).
3. Disable the repository, so yum won't use it by default. Yum will then
just ignore the repository until you permanently enable it again or use
--enablerepo for temporary usage:
yum-config-manager --disable updates
4. Configure the failing repository to be skipped, if it is unavailable.
Note that yum will try to contact the repo. when it runs most commands,
so will have to try and fail each time (and thus. yum will be be much
slower). If it is a very temporary problem though, this is often a nice
compromise:
yum-config-manager --save --setopt=updates.skip_if_unavailable=true
failu repodata/repomd.xml from updates: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.

I just downloaded zorin. I cannot find the sound control, nor do I hear any sound.
I tried to use the search option on this forum but had trouble finding the thread I was looking for.
Thanks in advance
Update: Ok, i got the volume control to show up on the panel, down next to the clock. Everything is turned all the way up, when i pull up pulse audio i can see the sound meter fluctuating while i play a video, but there is no sound coming out of the speakers.
How do i get sound?
Thanks again
So I extract an update to a package that creates one of the folders below and then I run "$(find . -name install.sh)" to find and install the update. It seems to go just fine. How? If the other versions were also there? Which install.sh gets run?
# find -name install.sh
./Program_5.1.8341.5506_Install/install.sh
./Program_5.0.8132.5459_Install/install.sh
./Program_5.2.8724.5567_Install/install.sh

I am trying to code a python script that does:- Using root account logs into multiple servers provided in a list. Check the OS type e.g. Linux, Solaris, HP-UX and Windows. Depending on the OS type it updates the name servers and options in /etc/resolv.conf. The update is done from a list that is also provided.
Any help is much appreciated.
