Are there any mother boards for an i7 4770 Intel cpu that don't have secure boot in the bios?
I have a new PC and it's my first with a UEFI motherboard. I've been using Manjaro on it for a few weeks but now I want to switch distros. Before UEFI it was easy; I'd just tell the new distro's installer to overwrite / and use the existing /home as /home. But now I have these extra partitions that Manjaro created regarding UEFI and I'm not sure how to go about it.
I just used the Linux Mint USB live disc and launched the installer. The partitioning tool showed me /bios and /EFI in addition to the other partitions that are more familiar to me, like /boot, /, /home and /swap. It would not let me alter the /bios and /EFI partitions.
In order to preserve /home. what should I tell the Mint installer to do? Should I just overwrite /boot and / as I've always done? Will it work like that on a UEFI system? Many thanks in advance for all advice.
Output of fdisk -l:

I'm trying to underclock my netbook's CPU (Intel Atom D2500) in order to save some precious energy.
I tried using the cpufreq utility. However, cpufreq-info yields the following output:
Code:
analyzing CPU 0:
no or unknown cpufreq driver is active on this CPU
maximum transition latency: 0.00 ms.
analyzing CPU 1:
no or unknown cpufreq driver is active on this CPU
maximum transition latency: 0.00 ms.
So I tried sudo modprobe acpi-cpufreq and other combinations as suggested elsewhere. Loading these modules usually yields
Code:
ERROR: could not insert 'acpi_cpufreq': No such device
So I thought the BIOS doesn't allow scaling. Its configuration is very limited, though, and I couldn't find anything related.
My BIOS is the following (sudo dmidecode):
Code:

Hi All,
I know log purging happens for /var/log/secure on daily basis. I am not able to understand what triggers log purging?
I have a linux device for which /var/log/secure is growing, now it has secure.1 secure.2 secure.3 and secure.4 files.
Any input is appreciated.

I am installing Linuc Mint Rebecca on this computer: CPU: I7, motherboard: ASUS X99-A, HD: 2x 2TB, motherboard BIOS RAID1, so the total hard drive size is 2TB
While I was installing LINUX MINT on RAID1 hard drive, the installation system pop up ??? ???windows at Wher Are You step, after I click OK, jump to Installation Type, no matter which type I select: Erase disk and install Linux Mint or Someting else, ??? error message pop up at Where are you.
And if I click either of the two disk, it shows "Unable to mount location"
however, I can double click and see the content of RAID1 2TB disk.
Question: what's the problem of LINUX MINT installation on RAID1?
Hi,
Before installing Linux Mint 17 to the entire HDD of my HP p2 1317cb desktop, it was running a preinstalled windows 8 OEM UEFI. After several failed attempts of dual booting(no grub menu and boots directly to the windows 8) i then decided to do a erase all and install Linux option. Now i have Linux Mint 17.1 working flawlessly, so far. What i want to now do is, dual boot a windows 7 installation alongside my Linux. Please advise on the best way to do this.
Thank You.
Note: Before doing a clean install of Linux i disabled secure boot, enabled legacy, and disabled fast boot.
I have tried to instal Debian 8 from USB stick on my SONY Vayo (VGN-NR430DT) but it wouldn't work even though I set up bios to boot first from usb stick. Instead it would go to the hard drive directly into old debian 7. The bootable usb stick is fine as it worked to install on my other computer with an ASUS Z87-A motherboard. Any ideas how to fix this?
Hi All,
I recently decided to tryout Linux and dual booted my laptop (originally just had windows 8) with Xubuntu. Now I want to try out Kali Linux. So I downloaded Kali and made a bootable USB, the problem is that when I try to boot from the USB it just brings up the grub menu asking me to select Xubuntu, Windows etc. I've changed the boot menu in the BIOS but that has no effect.
I've tried booting into windows and the restarting by holding shift but when I select the usb option it just says:
"system doesn't have any USB boot option. Please select other boot option in Boot Manager Menu"
and then returns to the grub menu. I don't understand because I used a bootable usb to install xubunto?
I'd be really grateful if anyone can help me out with this!
Thanks
Have Toshiba Tecra 64-bit 500gb disk 4gb ram running Windows 7 professional it has Intel core i5 processor.
I downloaded iso file of DVD LinuxMint Rebecca Cinnamon to DVD.
When I restart the system with the DVD inserted it immediately opens in Windows 7.
I could not follow the instructions to "disable secure boot and (u)efi".
Have partitioned the disk to allocate 100 gb to Linux in E:
First of all I really would like to run Live DVD and then later on to install it permanently it the E: partition.
Can I just simply copy the iso file into disk E:
Help from anyone is greatly appreciated.
Best regards to all of you.
