Print Quality Problems -- Epson WF-3620/Linux Mint 13

I just got an Epson WF-3620 all-in-one printer last week, to replace an older Epson WF 600 all-in-one. Both of these printers use the same universal Linux driver; it is identified on the Epson website as the ESC/P-R generic driver, version 1.4.4.

With my older Epson WF 600, I had no problems with print quality. With the new printer, copies look great, and test pages are perfect, but when I try to print a document from my hard drive, I get something that looks like a draft-quality printout. Blacks come out pale gray, and anything less than black drops out completely. I've tried changing the media type from plain papers-draft to plain papers-high in Properties/Printer Options, as recommended to another poster with the same problem on forums.openprinting.org, but this didn't work for me.

I tried calling Epson, just on the off chance that I'd get someone familiar with Linux, but wasn't lucky this time. Epson officially doesn't support Linux. I managed after some effort to get them to tell me the procedure for adjusting the print quality in Windows and Mac, just in case I could extrapolate it to Linux, but the menus are completely different.

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 580s desktop. I am running Linux Mint 13.

If no one knows a fix for this, one other thing that would be helpful is any recommendations for other all-in-one printer brands that support Linux. Thanks.

Failed To Load Session Cinnamon (Linux Mint)

Hello everyone,

I just tried upgrading to Linux Mint 17 from version 16, and I obviously did something wrong since when I'm prompted for my password, I get an error message saying "failed to load session cinnamon."

Then there are some error logs which say failed to connect to virtual box kernel service for several lines, then below that "unable to find cinnamon-fullback-mount-helper."

I tried doing ctrl alt f2, but I get a whole bunch of gobbledy gook which I'm unable to copy and paste.

I also tried burning a new DVD-R with Mint 17, but my computer doesn't even read it when I power it on. Otherwise, I would have tried reinstalling the OS.

So any suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Finding Drivers For Canon CanoScan 4200F Scanner

I'm trying to get a Canon CanoScan 4200F scanner to work in both Kubuntu 12.04 and Calculate 13.6, and I've had no luck, using either SimpleScan or Xsane. The Canon website is no help; it simply says that Canon supplies no drivers for that device for any Linux distro. Does anybody know where to get drivers that work w\ Canon devices?

The following is the output from lsusb:
lsusb | grep -i 'canon'
Bus 007 Device 002: ID 04a9:221b Canon, Inc. CanoScan 4200F

Thanx in advance.

Can Disk Boot Ubuntu But Not Mint

I recently purchased a laptop that came with Windows 8.1 as the OS. I am trying to switch it over to Linux Mint 17.1 (Rebecca). I found an Ubuntu disk loader that I placed on a DVD and it boots just fine. Downloaded the 32-bit Linux Mint .I so and burned it to a DVD. Tried to boot from it and nothing. Being new, the problem pretty much has to be something insanely simple but I sure can't find it. Would really appreciate any expertise out there.

Unable To Configure LAN And WAN IP In CentOS

We have 20 systems and I installed SQUID proxy on CENTOS to limit internet access but I'm unable to configure LAN and WAN. We have got one router in the network with 192.168.1.1 as default gateway. I installed squid successfully but unable to configure it in client systems as I'm unable to configure LAN and WAN ips in CentOS.
Please suggest me correct configuration of LAN and WAN for my network. We don't have any static IP with us. What series of IPs do I have to configure in Linux server? After that, what would be my Proxy IP?

I have basic knowledge about Linux...

Please suggest me Conf file accordlingly.

Question: what's the problem of LINUX MINT installation on RAID1?

Mint Problem - Stable Alternative?

I'm quite new to Linux, and after a lot of trials ended up with Mint Mate (dual boot with Win7). I've been using it for a few weeks now with no real problems.
However, I've just transferred my system to a new pc case. The only alteration I made was to change the sata connector cable from sata 1 to sata 0. When I tried to boot to Mint I got screen after screen of errors (all unintelligible to me). I tried the recovery boot and got even more screens of errors. I did once get a desktop showing but it wouldn't actually do anything. So I'm now unable to open Mint – it just says there is an error on the disk drive.
Thank goodness for Win7! That opened first time, no problems – and continues to open fine (and I can access and copy files from there).
Obviously after such a catastrophic experience with Mint I'm going to always stick with dual boot. Unfortunately I'm now very reluctant to trust Linux with anything important – though I do want to go on using it for internet access. Can someone recommend a really stable (but easy to use) Mate distro please? Thank you.

Mint XFCE 17 Installation Hangs

I have a dual boot installation of Mint 17 Cinnamon (separate / & /home & swap partitions) along with WINXP (c: winxp, D: data on NTFS).

I am not happy with the cinnamon and want to install XFCE 17 (fresh download from mint website).

I have created 3-4 different usb sticks wwith the iso (thru unetbootin, YUMI, unisersal boot installer) and tried to install. The installation freezes on the second screen itself - after asking for the language, it just sits there and waits for something to happen. Tried this 3-4 times but it just keeps the wheel spinning. However, while I am trying this I am unable to use the laptop perfectly well. In fact, I am typing this while the the installation is trying to do something!

I will be very grateful for the help. I am not too well uquipped with the Linux command system and still rate myself as a newbie.
